When you think eMachines, you probably think low-budget systems with non-upgradeable designs, right. Most hardcore gamers will shy away from these systems, but eMachines is hoping their new T6212 gaming PC will grab your attention.Designtechnica usually only reviews products that are high-end and offer some sort of design flare.http://www.raumboerse-luzern.ch/mieten/boss-gt-6-owners-manual But after checking out the T6212’s specifications, we decided to give it a try; and we found out it does offer something unique after all. Most likely they share a lot of the same parts and go through the same chassis manufacturer. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Compared to the eMachine PC’s of the past, the company definitely has stepped up the quality of their systems. The front face of the system is silver with glossy black highlights and buttons. The T6212 comes with a dual layer DVD writer and a CD-Rom drive; both share identical looking faceplates that rest flush with the system when their drawers are closed. There is an 8-in-1 media card reader with an integrated USB port in the middle of the system which lays flush with the chassis to give the T6212 a very clean look. The rear of the system has 4 more USB ports, an additional FireWire port, modem and Ethernet ports, a parallel printer port, VGA input and two PS2 inputs for your keyboard and mouse. We are impressed that eMachines was able to fit 7 USB and two FireWire ports into this small system. The overall look of the T6212 is very clean and attractive, definitely not what you are used to from a system in this price range. The motherboard was really designed to offer powerful options in a smaller form factor. This means eMachines can keep the initial cost of the system down while still offering an upgradeable computer to the user. You can read more about the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 motherboard on ATI’s website. In order to cut costs, eMachines gives you a hard drive that uses the slower IDE ATA interface, as well as integrated graphics instead of a stand alone card. But that’s Ok with us because you can always upgrade those two components. For complete system specifications and a listing of preinstalled software, please click on the specifications tab and link located above and below this review. You also get a multimedia keyboard, 2-button wheel mouse and stereo speakers with this system.https://oknagoda.com/images/9500s-4lp-manual.pdf Once we were actually on our desktop, we were attacked by a ton of pop-up messages asking us to update our operating system and registering the preinstalled software; it was actually pretty frustrating, so we are going to give you our recommendations. With Windows Service Pack 2 installed, you have all of the internet security features you really need. We were not even able to access the internet until we sat down and setup the Norton Internet Security software, a process that took about 15- 20 minutes in itself. Then go to the Spybot website or Lavasoft website and download their anti-spyware software. Spybot is free and should do the trick, but for added protection, we recommend you run Ad-Aware at the same time. It costs a little bit of money, but it’s a great non-intrusive program. The hard drive is pretty loud and is clearly audible when it’s being accessed. If you are like us, there is just something comforting about a quiet and speedy hard drive, and the Western Digital drive in this system had us on the edge of our seat, but it did not fail us throughout our testing. It does use shared memory with the systems main RAM, so it certainly will not perform as well as a standalone video card, but we would take it over an integrated Intel graphics chip any day. There is an open PCI-Express graphics slot, two PCI slots, two memory slots, four SATA controllers and room to add an extra hard drive. Now the power supply output is only 300-watts, so if you did decide to add a high-end graphics card to this system, you might have to put in a more powerful power supply, but based on what we have seen, the case should be able to accommodate it. From a gaming perspective, the T6212 just cannot compete. We also tried running the Sysmark benchmark on this system, but the DVD drive would not read our test DVD correctly forcing us to forego the test altogether. For complete benchmarks, please click on the performance tab and link located above and below this review. Sure Dell, Gateway and others may offer similar systems, but what separates the T6212 from others is its price range is the systems upgrade capabilities. With an open PCI Express graphics slot, two available PCI slots, SATA support and two open memory slots, this system should last for quite a while. The Norton Internet Security 2005 software that comes with the system can cause a lot of problems and will eventually have you on the phone with eMachines tech support trying to figure out how to use the software. The integrated graphics put out poor performance numbers when compared to ATI X600 or X800 video cards. If you have your own PCI Express video card however, then the T6212 would be a worthy system upgrade. Multimedia enthusiasts should be happy with the number of FireWire and USB ports this system has, and casual gamers should be content with the system’s overall performance.Digital Trends may earn a commission when you buy through links on our site. The motherboard is an MSI-7093 (RS480M2-IL). It has 2 additional memory slots available, also dual channel capable (4GB max memory). With future BIOS updates it will most likely support even higher speeds than are currently available. Has room for 4 SATA drives, RAID0, RAID1 capable and 4 Ultra ATA drives. Secondly, I may upgrade the memory as well. Is this memory acceptable and if not, could you provide info to what is. Lastly, I also intend on installing a TV tuner card or go with a external USB 2.0 unit. I believe that the motherboard has 1 PCI express and 2 PCI slots in it. I believe that the modem will occupy one of the PCI slots and the video card will occupy the PCI express. Correct me if I'm wrong,if I install a internal TV tuner card all my PCI slots will be occupied and if I so desire to install a independent sound card at a later date I will be out of luck. Thanks for all your help. Tom One final note, that ABIT video card is excellent, but it does take some tweaking. Use the DVI adapter that comes with it for a MUCH clearer picture. My Dad commented on the picture quality and he NEVER notices things like that. Also, I set the refresh rate too high for my monitor and it looked bad but once I made the adjustment, it looks GREAT. Make sure to play with it and you'll have an excellent system! Would I really notice a difference between twin 1GB sticks or twin 512mb sticks. Regarding the video card, would it be a major upgrade if I installed the MSI NX6600GT-TD128E Geforce 6600GT in lieu of the ABIT 256 MHz or the DIAMOND VX600PRO256 Radeon X600PRO card. I would still need a TV tuner card. Anyone care to recommend one for a 19' LCD monitor. One would assume that the T6212 with 2.5 GB of ram and a Geforce 6600GT card would be one heck of a machine. Thanks again. Tom I'd forgotten you wanted a TV Tuner. It's currently out of stock, though. Also, I want to upgrade my RAM. Any easy and affordable suggestions. I'm not good with computer, just want all my programs to be able to run quicker when several of them are on. Also, Is it hard to install. Thanks everybody ahead of time for your help. Only in AMD PROCESSORS, DO you worry about this, but at hp.com, you can customize an amd athlon 64 and it says (1x512) so can't you just use 1 memory module. Btw, airliners.net is another one of my favorite sites. As a career, i think i'll be a software developer, start my own company. When i become rich, i'll also start my own airline and have a huge collection of planes. Another one of my aspirations is to be a chef, i think ill do that when i retire though. My dreams, but who knows if it'll come true. My favorite hobby right now is flightsims, i don't like to go to honolulu international airport and take pics though so i didn't join airliners.net. Roger It has something to do with DDR (dual memory) and I don't claim to fully understand it, but I have the T6212 and eMachines made a point to place an update sheet on top of the packaging stressing that memory should be upgraded in pairs. Then I changed to two 256MB sticks, and it works perfectly. It also mentions this in the eMachines documentation. BTW, I'm an avid Flight Sim'er and the best add on to date is FS Live Traffic. Downloads traffic from AirNav's Flight Tracker and changes the default AI traffic with the actual AC and Airlines.I have everything at max settings on my machine. In the middle of a flight, it will just freeze and i have to force quit. I think it's my machine. Check my specs in my profile, i think the graphic card is bad, and can't handle so it causes my fs9 to crash. I'm looking forward to fs2006, only 1 year left. I also have x-plane 8. Flightsimming is the best! Roger I created a new thread discussion for this but should have searched for this thread to begin with, sorry. I have one already so I would only have to buy 1 more. I mean it works that way in my machine now so I assume it's universal unless I am missing something. That would give me 1.5Gb and should be good to go. You don't think there would be much performance loss from DDR400 to DDR333, do you. I will have x700 Pro installed also. I mostly do MMORPG's and burning software btw.I had 2 X 256 and added 1 GB and the machine only registered 1.25 GB. After adding a second GB, it now (correctly) registers ALL the memory for a total of 2.5 GB. 2. There is a significant drop in performance from 3200 down to 2700. Not a huge drop, but probably not worth the aggrevation. 3. Memory is cheap nowadays, son.Single sticks of memory work fine on 754 but not 939. Matching pairs only. P.S. This is a budget PC so most people will want to stay budget. Keep the 2 X 256Meg and add the same again for a total of 1 gig. Plenty for most folks. The T6212 motherboard, MS-7093 (RS480M2-IL), has one PCI-Express x16, and 3 regular PCI Bus slots. Best Buy shows the same and indicates there is are 2 PCI and 1 PCI-E vacant. Those posting here that have the T6212 could verify. BTW, IMO 512MB is adequated for current gaming. It is possible to maybe squeeze a little more performance with certain games using 1GB, but with 2GB for gaming, from what I understand, is just throwing away money at the present time, as without special instruments an ordinary person cannot tell any difference from 1GB. It is to my understanding that emachines suggests that you upgrade the ram in pairs and the t6212 comes with 2 256mg sticks. You also seem to think that the Gateway 827GM from CC is a pretty good deal. You guys are the best. Tom The claim is that the motherboard is an MSI RS480M2-IL, which lists these connections on NewEGG ( ) but is not shown on the motherboard on the MSI site or the emachine back panel pictures. So for those who own this emachine, does it have spdif and svideo connections. Thanks, Colin Please remember to be considerate of other members. However, its performance was better than all but one of the similarly priced systems in our March 2005 roundup of cheap PCs. And the T6212's 160GB hard drive space provides more storage than you would expect at this price. With its integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics relying on system memory, the T6212 posted a comparatively sluggish 43 frames per second in Castle Wolfenstein and 49 fps in Unreal Tournament 2003 at 1024-by-768 resolution, the highest supported by the bundled monitor. That kind of performance is good enough for low-impact games, but it's generally too slow for 3D action games.A sliding panel on the bottom makes it easy to reach two of the systema??s seven USB 2.0 ports, its audio inputs (for headphones and a microphone), and a FireWire port (for plugging in digital video cameras or external hard drives). The back panel connections can be readily identified and include both a modem and an ethernet port. After removing two thumbscrews I easily opened the T6212. It has a tidy interior, with two open memory slots, one empty internal drive bay, and three open slots (including a PCI Express X16 slot). Adding components to this system is straightforward but requires tools. Considering that many other low-cost PCs now include 17-inch LCDs, I was disappointed with the 15-inch EMachines E15T3r LCD monitor that came with our test system. In our tests, the monitor displayed reasonably sharp text, but graphics seemed a bit dark and lacked good detail. Using the monitor's color control, I was able to tweak the image and produce brighter color with better details. However, I also found it somewhat awkward to use the display's adjustment controls, which are on the right side and in back. The Diamond Audio EMC 2.0 two-speaker system bundled with this unit performed about as well as I expected--its lack of strong bass performance was evident during some of our CD and DVD playback tests. An enhanced keyboard that provides several shortcut keys (such as CD player controls) was a welcome addition, along with thorough user manuals for both the system and monitor. Which is a good chip.I still cannot find main board specs. With additional cooling, it is theoretically possible to shoehorn an Athlon 64 FX-55 processor and its heat sink into the T6212. Is this because you looked inside the case or read some docs.So you are running a socket 939. Plus, you're 3200 will run at 2 GHz while the 4000 will run at 2.4 GHz. That's an increase of less than 25. You're not going to see a huge boost in the speed of the system. I personally would stick with the 3200, but I'm normally one for bigger better faster myself so I can see where you're coming from. But, your cosideration probably misses L2 cach role. Power supply. From the United StatesThe only thing I didn't like is that the nvidia video memory is shared with the main proccesor's memory. I checked my system and sure enough I was only running at 384MB of memory. The next day I went out and bought 512MB of PC3200. I installed the chip and my system now tells me I have 896MB. My e-machine is now perfect. I like how the recovery disk is built in, and also the speakers are pretty decent, especially with the 5.1 sound. I also liked how I took my flash media out of my digital camera, and was able to insert it into one of the multi-media slots and was able to view my photos instantly, without any software.
