If the power supply is i nterrupt ed for 7 days or longer, the memory settings will b e erased. When to use ORIGINAL SETUP PRESET switch 1. When this system is subjected to an ele ctrical shock. 2. AM INDOOR LOOP ANTENNA T o stand the antenna on a surf ace, fix the c law to the slot. 1 23 High performance A M loop anten na provide d with the receiver is suf ficient for good rece ption in most areas. Connect the loop antenna’ s wires to the AM antenna terminals as show n. A M LOOP A M O u t d o o r A ntenna AM Outdoor Antenna If the AM loop antenna prov ided does not receive sufficie nt reception, it may be necessary to use a n outdoor AM antenna. Use an insulat ed cable of a length of 15 ft (5m) long, stri p one end, and c onnect this to the terminal as shown. The antenna wire should be strung outdoors or ind oors near a window. For better reception, connect the GND terminal to a reliable ground. Note: When connecting an outdoor AM anten na, do not disconnect the AM loop antenna. Here, only typical exam ples of speaker placem ent and recommendati ons are shown. Important points regarding speake r placement Front right and left speakers and center speaker. Place these three spe akers all at the sam e height. ? Place each speaker so that it is aimed at the location of the listener ’ s ears when at the listening positi on. ? Place front and right speakers at the same distance from the listening positi on. Surround left and right speakers Place these speakers so that the ir height is 1 m eter (3 feet) higher than that of the l istener ’ s ears. Surround back speaker Place this speaker so that its height is 1 meter (3 f eet) higher than tha t of the listener’ s ears. Subwoofer A subwoofer is recomm ended for the highest bass ef fect. Hold the power pl ug when plu gging or unplug ging the pow er cord. Subwoofer Out Use this jack t o connect an active s ubwoofer. V i deo connections: If the video com ponent is equipp ed with S-VIDE O jacks, it is recommended c onnect to your Recei ver or directly to the television m onitor using an S- VIDEO cable. S-VIDEO cables provid ed better picture cl arity and resolution. If the vi deo com ponent is not equip ped with an S-VIDEO jack, use a conventio nal RCA or RCA composite cab le to connect to your Recei ver or directly t o the television. The illustration here shows how t o connect video components t o your Receiver. Note: When connecting m ore than one vi deo component to y our Receiver (i.e. VCR and DVD player) it is easier to use either all S-VIDEO cables or all RCA to RCA composite cables. This allows both video signals (DVD and VCR) to be sent through your rec eiver to the TV monitor using just one video in put on the TV (S-V ideo or RCA ). Regardless of the video co mponent being played DVD or VCR, the pict ure will always appear on the sam e video input of the moni tor. If you use both S-V ideo and RCA composite c ables to connect dif ferent video components to your Receiver, you must also use bot h S-V ideo and RCA com posite cables to connect the TV monitor to your Receiver. For example, if you connect a DVD player to your Receiver using S-V ideo cable and a VCR using an R CA to RCA composite cabl e, you must also conne ct the TV to your Receiver using bo th types of cables. This requires an S-V ideo cable from the S-V i deo m onitor out jack on your Receiver to a n S-V ideo inp ut on the TV (i.e. V ideo 1). In addition, yo u must use an R CA composite ca ble from the composite vi deo monitor out jack on y our Receiver to an RCA composite vid eo input on th e TV but not the sa me input used for th e S-V ideo cable (i. e. V ideo 2). U sing this type of dual cable v ideo connection, y ou will need to switch the TV video input source from TV to V ideo 1 to V ideo 2 depending on the video source bei ng played-TV, DVD or VCR. Audio connections: Some video com ponents are equi pped with special digital audio outputs (i.e. DVD players). If your vid eo component is equipped wi th a digital audio output, it is recommended tha t you connec t to your Receiver usi ng a digital cable. Digit al audio cables are required to use the DTS and Dolby D igital surround s ound modes. If y ou do not use digital co nnections, your Receiver will only operate in Dolby Prologic II, P ASSTHRU, MOVIE, MUSIC, ROOM, THEA TER and HALL surround modes. There are two types of di gital cables, coaxial ( 75 ohm) and optical. T his Receiver is eq uipped with both types of digital inputs. These inputs are labeled COAXIAL IN and OPTICAL IN on the rear of the unit. C onnect the video component ou tputs to any o ne of the two digital i nputs on your Receiver. If the video com ponent is not equipped w ith a digi tal output, use a dual RCA to RCA composi te audio cable to connect to your Receiver. Make sure to connect: White plug to white jack (L: left) Red plug to red jack (R: right) Note: When an optical ca ble is used, rem ove the protection ca ps from the component and your Re ceiver before attem pting to insert the optical cable. If not using an optica l cable or if the cable i s removed, al ways re-install the prot ection caps to prevent dirt and dust from entering the in puts. If using a coaxial d igital cable, le ave the prote ction caps in both the vide o componen t and your Recei ver. DIGIT AL IN to DIGIT AL OUT (CD, etc.) DIGIT AL OUT to DIGIT AL IN (MD, etc.) Connect to any one of the DIGIT AL IN term inals. When using DIGIT AL OPTICAL IN terminals, remove the caps from the terminals. When you do not use them, leave the caps in place. T o record digi tally, connect th e source (C D player, etc,) to DIGIT AL IN and the recorder (MD, etc.) to DIGIT AL OUT. T o use the re mote control unit, p oint it at the REMOTE SENSOR window of th e receiver. Notes: z Even if the rem ote control unit is operate d within the effecti ve range, remote control operati on may not work if there are any obstac les between the unit and the remote co ntrol.Ne ver use dif ferent types of batter ies together.BA TTER Y INST ALLA TION 1. Remove the battery compartm ent cover. 2. Insert two “AAA” dry batteries. If the distance required be tween the remote co ntrol unit and main uni t decreases, the batteries are exhausted. In this case, replace the batteries with new ones. It contains an S-VIDEO input jack, one video input a nd Analog Left and Right inputs. 1 1. STEREO W i th the unit in the STEREO mode, only front left and front right speakers and W oofer are working. 22. ORIGINAL SETUP When this unit is ON, us e a paper clip to press this button for m ore than 3 seconds to reset the whole sy stem (including memories). DVD (ANA, OPT, COAX) TUNER (FREQUENCY) TA P E AUX VIDEO 1 (ANA, OPT,) VIDEO 2 (ANA, OPT,) VIDEO 3 (ANA) Note: DIGIT AL IN is used to select one of the 3 Modes. If appears on the display: A digital input source (OPT or COAX) has been selected, and the source is co nnected successfu lly. If “ UNLOCK” appeared for 5 seconds on the display: The source is not connecte d properly or t he source is not switched o n. In that case, connec t and switch the source on, or select ANALOG by pressing the DIGIT AL IN b utton. 4. Play the source, and gra dually turn up the vol ume to the required level with the MASTER VOLUME control. Press it again to turn the system of f (power standby mode). D olby Pro Logic IIx te chnology of fers decoders more fle xibility in deri ving additional outputs to take better advan tage of all the amplifiers and speakers found in higher -end surround systems, and to d o so from a wider range of program material and sources. There are two standard modes: Movie, Music. How to get PL II x: After power on this unit 1. Press the PRO LOGIC IIx key o n the front pan el or on the remote, you will get SURROUND BACK 1 SPEAKER DOLBY PL II x 6 MOVIE MODE (factory default mode), press the PRO LOGI C IIx key again, yo u will get SURROUND BACK 1 SPEAKER DOLBY PL II x 6 MUSIC MODE; 2. Press the SURROUND BACK key on the front panel, you will get SURROUND BACK 1 SPEAKER DOLBY PL II x 6 MUSIC MO DE (if the previous m ode is movie mode, you will get SURROUND BAC K 1SPEAKER DOLBY PL II x 6 MOVIE MODE), by this time, if you press PRO LOGIC IIx key, you will get SURROUND BACK 1SPEAKER DOLBY PL II x 6 MOVIE MODE; 3. Press the SURROUND BACK key on the front panel, you will get SURROUND BACK OFF DOLBY PL II MOVIE, by this time, if you press PRO LOGIC IIx key, you will get SURROUND BACK OFF DOLBY PL II MUSIC. Note: During the press, th e corresponding wording appears on the display. E. SURROUND MODE This mode is poss ible to achi eve a realis tic sound field with a “three dim ensional” feel, givin g the sense of distance, m ovement and rela tive position, and creating a surprisingly real and powerful sense of presence when playing movie software in A V room s. There are six surround modes: THEA TER, HALL, P ASSTHRU, MOVIE, MUSIC, and ROOM. F. DIRECT IN Press this button when yo u want to enjoy the 8 discrete channels of high quality digit al audio from the ext ernal source. G. ORIGINAL SETUP When this unit is ON, us e a paper clip to p ress this button for more than 3 seconds to reset th e whole system (including memories). H. BALANCE control This control is used to adjust the balance of the front speakers. Normally set to the center position. Press one of them on the remote control a nd then turn the MASTER VOLUME to ad just the level of them. L. Dolby Digital EX When using s urround back speakers, the Dolby Dig ital source is played back using the m atrix 6.1-channel decoder. M. DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 W ith the additional of the surroun d back channel, this new format has all 6.1 channels recorde d independent ly for a completely discre te digital form at. Since all channels are recor ded independently, high-fide lity surround playback w ith the increased sound space is achieved. N. DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 This format has the surround back channel m atrix encoded and inserte d into the left a nd right surround channels so that a t playback the output for the left, right, and back surround chan nels are decoded using a high-precision matrix decoder. Manual T uning It is for selecting st ations, which cannot be tu ned automatically (m anual select ion) T o tune a channel manual ly: Skip step 4 in the above procedures. S tereo FM stereo broadcasts are re ceived in stereo and the “ 8 ” indicator lights on the displa y. Mono T o com pensate for weak FM stereo reception, se lect this mode. Recept ion will now be forced m onaural, reducing unwanted nois e. If DISPLA Y but ton is pres sed, the detai ls of incom ing digital source will be displa yed. Preset T uning This facility is used to store FM, AM broadcast ing from channel 1 to1 5 respectively. Automatic Memory Pr esetting 1. Select the T uner m ode by rotating the INPUT SELECTOR knob. 2. Select the AM or FM by pressing the BAND button. 3 Press the “APS” button on front panel. Up to 15 of the best-rece ived stations in y our area will be automatic ally stored. The station num ber will be displayed on the screen. 6. Press the MEMOR Y button.It ca n only operated in FM mode. For example, name of t he station broadcasting, name of the progr am or the type of progra m will be shown on th e multi-functi on display. It functions only w hen the local broa dcasting statio ns have the RDS transm ission and the signal is strong enough. Press the “DISPLA Y” on the front panel or on the remote, there are functions for PS, PTY, CT and R T.The current station name will be shown. Note: “NO PS” will be shown if the si gnal from local radio station i s not strong enough or no such service.The c urrent name type of the program will be shown. Note: “NO PTY” will be shown if the si gnal from loc al radio station i s not strong enough or no such service.T hen “W AITING CT” will appear. The current tim e from Radio S tation will be shown, e.g. 15:30 Note: - The Clock - Time will be only transm itted from local radio station onc e a minute, so you need to wait for le ss than 1 minute to show the result. - “NO CT” will be shown if the signal from local radio station is not st rong enough or no such service.Some T ext m essages will be shown. Note: “NO R T” will be shown if the signal from local radio station i s not strong enough or no such service. APS (Auto Prog ram Searc h) 1. Select your F M or AM band. 2. Press the “APS” on the front panel, it will search the available stations. The searched statio ns will be memorized in the respecti ve band memory up to max imu m 15 memo ri es. Note: W eak station may also b e storied in memories, so manual memory presetting may be needed i n order to have better receiving. NOTE: When the dif ferent video source from the DVD or VCD conn ected to this Am plifier, you must connect the corresponding s ource output to t he TV set, otherwise you can’ t see the pic ture on the TV s et.The current setting is show n on the display. 1. Press SPK SETUP on the rem ote control as shown. Delay T ime Setting A djustable Range DOLBY DIGIT AL MODES: 0-15 ms in 5 ms step (S-Delay) 0-5 ms in 1 ms step (C-Delay) DOLBY PRO LOGIC II MODE: 15-30 ms in 1 m s step (S-Delay) In the surround m odes, the sound from the speakers should be delay ed slightly, relat ive to that from the front speakers. The optim um delay tim e will depe nd on acous tic properties, whether t he walls and furnishin gs reflect or absorb sound, etc. It is recommende d that you try differen t delay tim es to obtain the b est ef fect. The del ay is digita lly synthesized. For the highe st sound quality with mini mum noise a nd distortion, the delay time can be set indepe ndently for DYNAMIC RANGE CONTROL This button con trols the compression range o f sound track. It is useful when you want to movies at the late night.Dynamic Ran ge Compression is not possible w ith DTS sources.Once the bal ance is set, you don’ t have to change the balance as long as the speakers aren’t moved. 1. Adjust the MASTER V OLUME to the norm al listening level. (Half of max. V olume is recommended) 2. Press the TEST TONE b utton (on the remote control) in DTS, Dolby Digital or Dolby PRO LOGIC II mode. Note: Y ou must keep press TEST T ONE until one complete cycle is finis hed. Note: The LFE adjust sta te resume to norm al, if MASTER VOLU ME is not press after 5 seconds. CHANNEL SELECT Balancing volume between speakers in 6.1 channel mode when using the 6.1 analogue inputs. As the Dolby Digital s ignal is decoded i n the external source, sometim es, you may have to balance volum e between speakers due to the location of speakers. RIGHT) BS(SUR. BACK) 2. Adjust the Master V olume to balance all spea kers. Note: If the Master V olume is not adju sted for 5 seconds in Channel T rimmer state, it returns to nor mal state. T uner An unusual hissing noise is heard when listening to the broadcast in stereo, but not hear d when listening monaurally. A slight nois e may be heard because the method us ed for modulation of FM stereo broadcasts in dif ferent than that used for monaural broadcasts. T ry reducin g the treble so und by turning the treble controls. Noise is excessive in both st ereo and monaural broadcasts. T ransmitted station is too far away. S tereo br oadcasts or r ecordings will pr oduce some rear channel effects when played in a surround mode. However, mono sour ces will not pr oduce and sound from the rear speakers. Set the button to DOLBY DIGIT AL, DTS or DOLBY PRO LOGIC II. Remote Control Unit The batteries are exhausted. Replace with new batteries. Remote control not work ing The remote control unit is too far from the receiver or out of the ef fective range. Operate the Remote Contr ol unit within the ef fective range. The five main channels of the AVR-200 are 60-watts each and therefore you get a very nicely balanced surround sound. It has Dolby Surround Pro-Logic, Dolby Digital, and RDS The full specifications can be found in the AVR-200 They manufacture mainly loudspeakers and amplifier systems. It is a shame because their amplifier design in terms of design, build, and sound quality is excellent. The component choice, placement, layout, and design are to a very high standard and consequently the AVR-200 is a highly desirable piece of audio engineering to anyone who understands customer satisfaction. The audio power output circuit utilises the TDA2030A IC for each channel. The circuit diagram very much follows the configuration shown in the ICs documentation. This is an 18-W hi-fi amplifier and 35-W driver, for low-frequency class AB applications.
