Screws needed I have a 4-in-1 Ellis crib by Simplicity. We lost 4 of the. They will send you a new manual along with the replacement. And even though it took us 5 hours to assemble, it was well worth having one of the most beautiful cribs for our baby. This crib is HUGE, and so handy, and the finish is so rich, and it's so sturdy. I'm SO glad I got this crib. The only bad thing is that when it arrived, one of the drawers had dents near the side of it in the front, but luckily it isnt very noticable.I recommend this crib to anyone!!Pros: I love that it is convertible to the toddler bed and full size bed. It already comes with the rails for toddler bed and everything for full size bed (except rails to support mattress). Great price for everything you get.Cons: Changing pad is thin, may need to buy another thicker one. Once put together it is very wide, which could be bad in a smaller room.Unfortunately within months all of the finish began to peel especially off the changing table. The crib is not even fit to be sold due to the finish peeling no one will buy it from us.http://promtong.com/promtong/temp/dell-hybrid-studio-manual.xmlMy son outgrew it by 7 months old and he was a small baby. Other than that I love the crib. I might buy one for my next baby because this time I already have a stand alone changing table.I am actually looking for a dresser to match, but no luck. Can anyone help?I bought this one in order to have the two match. I thought the Ellis line had just been discontinued, but Simplicity is OUT of BUSINESS. So replacement parts are NOT available (and Albee Baby did NOT respond to my calls about what to do). AND, while they say you can use it as a night stand later, it will still have the rails around the top (a little strange). It's a great piece of furniture, but just hope it arrives in good shape with all the pieces and don't expect any support if not.In my opinion the crib was very easy to assemble. I suggest having someone else around just to help you hold some pieces but for the most part the crib maybe took me accouple hours to put together. The only complaint that i have is that one of the bolts wasnt threaded correctly and there wasnt any extras. So i had to go to a bolt shop and buy another inorder to complete the bed. In my opinion it was a fluke. The wood pieces were welll crafted and everything seems to fit snuggly. I have yet to test it out with our child since he isnt due until April 4th. Good Crib i would recommend itHowever, some of the wood was severely damaged and none of the manufacturer's phone numbers are working numbers. Even their customer sevice e-mail address that they gave was invalid. Am in the process of trying to reach the store we bought it from, so far no luck. However, The rails are too far apart and the baby's arms can get caught in between which poses a safety problem for me. It has not been recalled but that is the only issue I have experienced with this crib. Other than that it's an awsome space saver having two pieces of furniture in one.I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.http://afreecountry.com/?q=node/4517 The instructions to put it together were a bit tricky but we still got it put together. Its a very sturdy crib and i like how you pretty much have a bed set for your kid even when he moves off to college and even when he has his own kids.A great investment, i would reccommend it to anyone. They got mine from babiesrus.com though. but its the same exact thing. All Rights Reserved. WordGirl 5.0 out of 5 stars It's idiot proof -- trust me. They manufactured it so that you can't screw it up. If you assemble something incorrectly, it won't fit together in the end. Your mileage may vary -- OBVIOUSLY. Put together, the piece is way more impressive than the product image. The cherry is rich and deep and looks much more expensive than it cost. It's pretty sturdy too. I scraped off a teeny-tiny smidge of finish on one of the slats that I probably couldn't find now.http://kovonerez.com/images/929d-serger-manual.pdf And that was after I dropped one whole side on top of another (while I was trying to balance them to screw them together). You don't need any tools to assemble this -- it comes with everything you need in labeled blister packs. No plastic baggies with bolts rolling around. These people are meticulous about letting you know which pieces are which. One word of caution: installing the mattress support brackets is a bee-yotch. But placing the little brackets on the bar-support system correctly almost made me cry and cuss. It's confusing on the directions which way it goes and how it's supposed to be installed. But thankfully, there is only ONE WAY TO DO IT RIGHT. But when it IS finally installed the right way, it still looks kind of counter-intuitive. The bolts don't fit flush for some reason ON PURPOSE. They are still sturdy and hold the system in place (trust me, I rattled and yanked on it to make sure), they just look funny. Beautiful crib for the money. I'm impressed. And I'm pretty finicky. Our hopes were definitely met. The assembly was easy (one step in the directions was blatantly wrong, but it did not take long to undo the mistake), and the crib is exceptionally sturdy. Furthermore, converting the crib to a toddler's bed, to a day bed, or into a full-sized headboard is easy to do, and it retains its sturdiness in the other configurations as well. We love this crib, and are so glad we purchased it!The rear and front assembly can still be used as an attractive full size twin bed headboard and footboard, respectively. My kids and I liked it until we learned about the risk of suffocation. The second night, he woke up once to eat and went right back to sleep. This is a breastfed baby that usually sleeps 2 hours at a time and then wants to eat. He is spoiled by napping in our bed which is a cushy pillowtop. But for some reason this crib seems to comfort him, and even when he's awake he likes to lie quietly in the crib and look around. Maybe it's the way our white walls contrast against the dark wooden slats. Whatever the reason, we are thrilled that he doesn't hate his new bed. The crib is very sturdy, and it looks nice in our room. I bought it at Target because the Babies 'R Us around here said they were sold out and that the company (Simplicity) is going out of business. But the cherry color is very beautiful, too, so I'm not completely disappointed. I would definitely recommend this crib!It was great as a crib and a toddler bed, but I bought it so I could CONVERT it. Hence the name of the bed. Well, it doesn't fit the full sized frame I had to buy at the mattress store since it didn't come with rails of any sort. Luckily my husband will be able to rig something together. But I'm not happy that we have to. I wouldn't recommend this bed simply because it isn't what it says it is.I did plenty of searching before I bought this crib for my daughter and other cribs that were selling for this price looked cheap and unstable. This crib is sturdy, made of real wood and looks so pretty. I am now pregnant with my second child and will buy this crib in a different finish for my second baby.Had it since 2008 worked great as.a crib and day bed now it is time to convert it into a full bed and not only did I have to buy the rails, frame and attachments but the changer turned night table is useless!! It does not detach from the headboard successfully therefore you have a full headboard with dresser attached. Not what I expected. Would not recommend. You can unsubscribe at anytime. That makes it important to make sure your baby's crib is safe and secure. Registering your crib with the manufacturer can help you stay up-to-date on whether it has safety issues, as can checking with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Some manufacturers affected by the recalls, such as Simplicity Inc., are no longer in business, leaving parents with baby cribs that cannot be returned or fixed. The drop-side hardware can detach and lead to suffocation and strangulation hazards. Drop-side cribs also sometimes have confusing instructions that caused them to be put together wrong, which can later lead to drop-side detachments. A baby crib recall might also be issued for other safety hazards, such as if the cut-outs in the end panels allow an infant or toddler's head to get trapped. They include looking for screws coming loose, supports separating, and slats breaking. Any of these problems can lead to gaps that can entrap a baby's head and lead to strangulation.Stop using the recalled crib Find an alternative place for your baby to sleep safely until you fix or replace your recalled crib, such as a bassinet (if your baby is under 6 months old), an age-appropriate play yard (without a pillow or additional bedding), or a toddler bed or a mattress on the floor for older children who are already walking. Get a replacement kit or repair kit from the crib manufacturer as soon as possible or replace the recalled crib. Follow the baby crib's assembly instructions carefully and call the baby crib manufacturer if you think you did something wrong or don't understand something in the instructions. Regularly check your baby's crib to make sure that the hardware has not broken, including that all screws and bolts are still tight, that the crib doesn't feel loose or wobbly, and that the drop-side is on its track. Contact the baby crib manufacturer if your crib needs to be repaired and do not try to repair it yourself with homemade parts. Report any problems that you have had with a baby crib or other baby product to the CPSC. You can search by the brand of your crib or for all cribs by date of recall. The site has contact information for reaching the manufacturer for further instructions. No recalls were issued in 2016 or the first six months of 2017, perhaps showing the effectiveness of the standards now in force. IKEA recalled over half a million crib mattresses due to the risk of entrapment. 2014: Bexco recalled Franklin and Ben Mason 4-in-1 convertible cribs due to fall and entrapment hazards. September 2011: About 2,300 Shermag drop-side cribs that were sold at the Land of Nod and other baby specialty stores. May 2011: About 22,000 Dream on Me Full-Size and Portable Drop-Side Cribs because the drop-side rail hardware can break or fail. April 2011: About 330 high-end fixed-side cribs from ducduc have been recalled because the 'bottom rails on the crib sides can separate from the sides when the mattress is in the lowest position, causing the spindles to separate and the mattress to drop.' November 2010: About 90,000 Bassettbaby drop-side cribs with external plastic hardware, which were sold from January 2000 through August 2010, have been recalled. October 2010: Just over 50,000 cribs were recalled this month in four separate crib recalls including Heritage Collection 3-in-1 drop-side cribs, Angel Line drop-side cribs, Ethan Allen drop-side cribs, and Alexander Designs Ltd.Caregivers who have these recalled cribs should get a free immobilization kit to make their baby's crib safer. April 2010: LaJobi Cribs recalled about 217,000 Graco brand drop-side cribs made by LaJobi because of potential drop-side hardware failure. April 2010: All Simplicity Cribs with tubular metal mattress-support frames have been recalled because they pose a risk of entrapment and strangulation. Patrick’s Day Privacy Policy Read our disclosure policy here. Catchy title, no? Actually, that title was a rather whimsical, lighthearted jab at the unplanned craziness that was our weekend. Let’s step back in time for a minute, shall we. Spring, 2008. Lily Bean was on her way, due to arrive in September. By late Spring I was caught up in a whirlwind of planning and preparing. I remember shaking my head thinking that wedding planning had seemed like a lot of work. I searched near and far and spent countless hours online researching baby gear, furniture, and decor. I knew that when I saw the perfect crib for my baby, I would just know. And I did. I instantly fell in love with the Simplicity Ellis 4 in 1 Convertible Crib (black). My dad, a very proud Pop Pop-to-be, bought the crib (and the rest of the nursery furniture) for his future granddaughter. Further decisions were made, but they all revolved around that beauty of a crib. We chose our bedding, picked the paint, and so on and so forth. Then one morning in early Fall we brought our precious Lily Bean home from the hospital. I cried because Biker Bob took her into her nursery for the very first time without me. LOL Those Baby Blues are no joke, are they?! In the past 20 months, we have literally watched out daughter grow up in this crib. I have never been sorry about the purchase. Until last Thursday. The interwebs came alive last Thursday with a major Graco and Simplicity Crib recall. I honestly almost didn’t pay attention to it because the Simplicity crib pictured on the news report looked nothing like ours. It wasn’t until my friend sent me a message mentioning that the Ellis model was involved and she thought she remembered us purchasing that one. (Impressive memory!) The problem with the cribs is that the tubular metal mattress-support frames can bend, causing possible suffocation. There has been one infant death related to this issue. What do you do? First of all, even before your product is involved in a recall, visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on the web. Consider signing up for their email alert service. (I love how you can choose what types of products you would like email alerts about- infant, household, etc.) What made our task a little more daunting: Simplicity, the crib manufacturer, is no longer in business. This meant I was not able to simply call up the company in question and request a refund, credit or replacement. I knew that my dad had purchased the crib from either Target or Walmart. I decided to call each of them and find out their policy- after which I was able to dig up our purchase info (I had written it down in Lily Bean’s baby book!). I was pleasantly surprised (and impressed) with BOTH Target and Walmart’s responses. Each store asked for the model number of our crib. They confirmed that it was indeed on the recall list and that we should stop using it immediately. They each told me we could bring the disassembled crib into our local store, no receipt or packaging necessary. We could exchange the crib for a store gift card equal to the price that the crib had been sold for. We picked out a snazzy bed with all the fixins. Mommy and Daddy watched in the video monitor as Lily Bean decided to climb out of bed and run around her room. Had to be put back in bed twice. After 2nd time, remained in bed. Fell asleep after about 20 minutes and slept for 2 hours. Climbed into bed. Not a peep. Fell asleep after 20 minutes. Slept soundly allll night. Yahoo! The crib has been returned to Walmart without incident. And that is the tale of the great crib-to-bed-switch-only-after-prompted-by-crazy-scary-recall. Love Lily’s new big girl bed. What a big girl she is growing way too fast for Nana and Poppy.I’m going to have to find the paperwork on it. I hope BRU is good about the recalls.Very pretty! Your video monitor pic looks like a baby in an ultrasound, in a white bed!!!!:) Reply I love your dog, too! PS. Thanks for all the deals! Reply Did they give you a full refund? Reply Yes, they gave us a full refund.Good luck! Reply Unfortunately, she is not old enough for a big girl’s bed. BRU is not helpful. Hoping Target or Walmart will help us. Thanks for the scoop. Reply I love love love the Ellis crib. I was hoping my daughter could transition to the childs bed, then the full size bed. I am on the fence on what to do. My husband says he can put a piece of plywood and attach it to the metal bottom rail to make it sturdy so the bottom would not fall out.In the end, I figured I just didn’t feel great about using a recalled crib. I have to say, our transition to the big girl bed has been nearly seemless- and my daughter is 19.5 mos. I can’t believe how good she has been with it! Reply My husband said the exact same thing last night, “I think we can just cover it with a piece of plywood”. I am so bummed. Hmmm, still not sure what to do. Reply The one this still on my mind is if we have another baby I would definatly buy a new crib so am I better off just getting one now. My sons 21 months and Im afraid of the lack of sleep Id get if I swtiched him to a toddler bed. He already can be a challange in his crib! Reply We are in the midst of this issue right now and debating what to do, get another crib or make the leap to a bed. Our little one will be 2 in July.He attached it with u-brackets and short wood screws. Our doctor, Dr. Ferber, told us she was still too young to go into a toddler bed. Our daughter has had a hard time adjusting to regular sleep patterns. So she isn’t quite ready for freedom:) The board is nice and secure and does not move. I am so happy that she will be in her crib longer and then transition the crib to a toddler bed. Reply I do like the look of the IKEA toddler beds, but they all take separate bedding, right. Did you feel it was easy to find something cute for your daughter. Are they supportive enough for you or your husband to sit on the bed with her? (Regular toddler beds usually say 50-ish pounds weight limit, and we, ahem, do not fall under that category for sure. But we love sitting in bed with our oldest reading stories and getting pre-bed snuggles, so we want to be able to do that with our second in her bed, too). I guess I need to head to IKEA again (but it’s almost an hour away for us) to get full answers, but if you have any input, I’d LOVE it!! Reply If you are considering the Canton crib by Delta products, which is IDENTICAL in style to the Ellis (minus the metal support frame), maybe you should think again. We loved our Ellis too, until the day our toddler got her petite little arm stuck in the bars and was left with a nasty bruise. When researching replacements for the recalled Ellis, I happened upon the Canton. I was instantly curious, because it looks identical to the Ellis. So, long story short, if you are considering “rigging” your existing Ellis or replacing it with a Canton, please reconsider. The possibility of suffocation from a metal frame is not the only flaw in this style of crib. Reply She’s 20 months old. We almost had to break the crib to get her out. I came across this to see if that was what the recall was about. I was thinking of moving her to the daybed, but can’t now. I can still have her in a full size bed, though. I’m still debating. She’s so young. Reply I am so angry that neither Simplicity or Babies R Us didn’t contact me on the recall. Thanks for the information, hopefully they give me a full refund, cause I am not a happy mamma right now. How can a company do that to families especially children, they just up and close and leave the mess with the stores selling them. And can Wal-mart and Target keep selling these products, they might have fixed the problem but the trust is lost with me. I love this crib and was looking forward to her growing up into it.It really wasn’t their fault and they took all the steps necessary to ensure that no further cribs were sold and the recall returns were made simple. I don’t know about Babies R Us but I no longer shop there as the service I got was terrible. We had an Ellis crib as well- I disassembled it and took it to Target the day after the recall notice from the CPSC. The information is on the Target website. I hope you received a refund as well, or if you have not yet taken in your crib I would recommend it. The customer service we received was excellent. We are in need of an exemplar crib to perfrom testing on. If anyone has or knows where we can get an Ellis 4-in-1 crib please let me know. The store we bought it from also closed, and obviously Simplicity is out of business. Can I ask, what was your results from Target??? Have you gotten a refund yet? Reply Does anyone know where to find the rails. I don’t want my money back or a different one since the problem is eliminated once you convert it to a Full size bed. Correct? I just want the rails to do so. Any suggestions? Reply I am now expecting twins, so I get out the paperwork on the crib and do a search by model number and name to see if anyone is still selling this crib so I can match it to the new one. It took a while since it had been so long, but they issued me a store credit for 230.00. With tax it was 250.00. They were great about it. I just wanted to post this incase anyone else realizes they have a recalled crib, so they will know that they can return it. Good Luck! Reply Today, i google the crib to get a stock picture of it as a crib to sell as we are moving cross country. I had no idea of the recall. Isn’t that what those little Recall Cards that I filled out and sent in the mail for every piece of baby gear that I bought for my daughter are for. That is so scary and I am so thankful that nothing happened. I guess I will not sell this on my FB yardsale group, but I wonder what my chances are of getting a refund from Target 4.5 years later? Reply Fortunately for me one of my friends (who apparently has the memory of an elephant!!) remembered that this was the crib I bought and let me know about the recall.
