Medical Marketing Maven 5.0 out of 5 stars My 5 year old grandson and I spent hours building one project after another that night - basic lights with switches, alarms with different volumes etc. When I came to drive him to pre-school, I discovered he'd gotten his papa up at 6AM to build more. That night after school, we built an AM radio and the wireless microphone. Too bad one must disassemble one project to build another. The organization, color coding and numbering is wonderful, and encourages putting all pieces back into their plastic wells before beginning the next project. This 76 year old ham radio operator remembers from the 1950s when we stripped down old radios for their components and took days - weeks - to build a radio from the ARRL handbook or Popular Electronics. I can't recommend this enough. It is great!GUESS what one of the oldest's was. Yep - this exact same set. We were initially really disappointed since it looked like we'd be returning what had seemed like the perfect gift, but my son assured me that another of these sets would only EXPAND his fun, increasing his ability to build more elaborate projects. After seeing our grandson's excitement and sense of accomplishment while deftly putting together (with a few reminders from Dad) a couple of different contraptions, we knew we'd struck gold with this set. He's really into Legos and building things but I wanted something that he could use more than just the one time that you typically build a Lego set before it sits around. I had a hard time deciding whether to buy this or the junior circuit set because this says it's for ages 8 and up but I'm glad I got this one. I'm also fresh out of high school so I've recently used circuit sets in my physics class and dreaded them so I was worried as to whether or not he would enjoy this enough as a toy. At 19 I even genuinely enjoyed all of the projects we built. The instructions are fairly clear to build each of the projects but I think reading the paragraphs in order to understand the science behind each one went a little over his head at 7. Even after he read the paragraphs, he didn't understand most of them. Overall I think it was a great buy and he absolutely loved it. This will definitely keep him busy for a long time and it will be hard to get bored of with all of the options available!I can't say enough about how pleased I am with this toy. My 10 year old easily spent about 8 hours with this the first two days. I think for kids that enjoy building things (think Legos) this is the perfect toy. My 7 yr old also enjoyed playing with it and could follow the directions all on her own. Great educational toy. So glad I went with this toy over Little Bits (which look great but are very expensive). I think it would be great for schools as well that are thinking of purchasing these to teach about circuits (appropriate for elementary and middle school students). It's not super engaging for a kid who isn't already super engaged in this stuff. The snapboard is fantastic, and the pieces are great. The projects are interesting, but again, as much as it pains me to admit, its not gonna grab the attention of every kid.Nevertheless when I was my kid's age I used to construct 'computer's and robots with dollhouse-toy-electronics; buttons, lamp bells, buttons ect. Which was good fun and probably just enough to prevent me from getting electrocuted when changing light bulbs in later life. These sets give you all that and more, and are simply marvellous in my view. The range of possibilities with such a large set is wide. And being part of a broader Snap-circuit line makes it highly versatile and modular. The set is very well presented in a box that helps organising the parts. It comes with colourful elements each with a different function and includes very clear, coloured instructions of which the basic ones can even be understood by my 5-year old son. Most importantly the set leaves the kids engaged for several hours with a challenging, highly educational activity. At a minimum it will teach my kids much more compared to my limited electronic-autodidact boyhood experience. Our purchase is very timely as well as it turns our out oldest daughter just had an electronics project at school, so she knows the basics and is ready to explore more. I wonder how often this set will be pulled out of the cupboard after the initial excitement wanes and once they are through some of the less-challenging project's - as our kids got quite a variety of toys (too keep them off the Ipads). Even so, it could well that they experiment with this set for years. Though I suspect rather sooner than later my involvement will be required - which will expose dad's woeful electronic skills and knowledge!. We first noticed this set with family. Initially I got a bit confused during the purchase as on Amazon and auction sites there are many comparable and similar looking sets with at least the electronic components looking similar. But this Snap Circuit range seems to be the main UK brand (maybe 'm wrong) and comes with a range of add-on sets available; leaving us with the option to add more at a later stage - there are pretty exciting Snap Circuit sets out there. He normally loves Lego but we thought this would make a nice change. So happy that we did as he loves it. Even told us we had made a good choice. Praise indeed from an 8yr old. My husband and I both made Crystal Sets at school in the early 1960's and used to listen to Radio Caroline. We thought this might bring the generations together.and it has! Would definitely recommend.Everything snaps together with the wires and components fixed to plastic mounts that join with press studs. Seems fairly resilient to handling by a child who's not the most careful. Very glad that he's used it most days, and is most excited about making an AM radio with the kit (who knew they still broadcast on medium wave). Has been making his own circuits as well. Well chuffed.I was worried about the basics but on opening he said (never before mentioned) he always wanted this. Box opened and and he immediately started to build things as his friends had shown him. Concepts an understanding can come later. Little sister also started to build circuits later and both say this was their favourite. Mum likes it too as the parts are all big and each have a home in the moulded box. Replacement parts are cheap and the sets are expandable. That is why I decided to buy this electronic circuits kit. So far the two kids (8 and 5 years old), have methodically started going through the instruction booklet making all sorts of circuits. In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. The snap-together electronic blocks are mounted on plastic pieces that can be used again and again to form many exciting and educational circuits. Each Snap Circuits kit comes with full-color manuals and color-coded, snap-together parts that make circuit building easy. The manuals have many circuit projects that all feature a color diagram of the circuit, an educational objective, step-by-step assembly instructions, and a description of what the assembled circuit should do. No tools are required for circuit assembly. The snap-on 2-AA battery holders power the circuits; AA batteries are required but not included. You can even draw up your own circuits using the Snap Circuits design file (599k doc) and try submitting it to Elenco’s web site with user-submitted circuits.
