We took a chance on this clock with a brand we'd never heard of. We love it. Projection: My husband was worried about this feature with time looming over his head. There is a dimness feature and I find low to be just fine. My husband still thinks it is too bright but not awful. Alarm: We don't use the alarm often, but this allows radio or buzzer and you set it to be weekdays only, which is nice. Setup: Yes, other reviews said it wasn't super easy to setup. Just read the directions and you'll be fine. It is just isn't the same as other clocks. Great clock, nice radio, line in for MP3, nice looking, not chinzy. This projection clock had the potential to be perfect, but still managed to fall short. The projection brightness of the numbers on the ceiling are adequate, but there is significant bleeding of the red color behind the numbers (think red numbers with a red background). The numbers shown by the projection are certainly visible, but the red background makes them difficult to see when the room is brighter. The clock's front display is big and bright, but unfortunately, the brightness setting on the clock does not lower the brightness nearly enough. The white numbers, set on the lowest brightness level, light up my dark bedroom. I'm thinking of grabbing some window tint to cover the display to mute the brightness. This could be vastly improved if we had more fine-grained control of the brightness, or perhaps if a light sensor was used to automatically set brightness based on how bright the room is. Out of the box, the clock automatically set itself without a problem. But since the recent daylight savings time change, I've found that this function no longer works. Unplugging and resetting the clock back to factory settings did not fix the problem either. So in the end, some of the main draws for this clock ended up to be letdowns, but based on the average reviews of other projection clocks, this one still seems like the best one out there. Pluses: Two independent alarms - while some talk about one for weekdays and one for weekends, each is fully independent and both can be weekdays (as my wife and I have it set) if that is what is needed. Projection: this is my first projection clock and I love it. Those who complain about it being fuzzy obviously never found the focus knob. David S. 5.0 out of 5 stars After my old one died the only two things I cared about were that the clock should not use an atomic set feature, yes I said not, and that it either turn off the projection or be dim enough not to bother me. As I nervously settled on this clock I am now very pleased I did. I live in an area where atomic clock features are the bain of our existence. Typically clocks we had in the past would arbitrarily change what hour it decided to be often and rarely even the minutes. I assume North Idaho is just too far away or we don't get the signal well where we live. My old clock allowed me to only display the projection when I hit the light button. I loved that because I have trouble sleeping and any light disturbs me terribly. This clock either has the projector on or off. However, while others shun it for being dimly lit, that feature was exactly what I was looking for. It is true, you can't view the time in the presence of decent light, but it also isn't turning the room blood red in darkness as the numbers scream down from the ceiling either. It's perfect for me. Sir Charles Panther 4.0 out of 5 stars It's got some nice features, but some of them are just misplaced on the case, or haven't been fully thought through, and that's why I've given four stars. There are a number of features to this clock that are pretty good. The face is large and quite bright. The dimmer, sadly, is located at the back of the clock on the bottom, where it's difficult to reach. It's not a button, but a 3-position sliding switch. It should be a toggling button on the top, or even on the front face. This is actually quite small. The clock display is tied to the projection display, which is nice. My old jWin projection clock had the clock and the projection as two separate clocks, so anytime the power went out or daylight savings time (DST) rolled around, I had to reset both, with the projector having the tiniest little setting buttons smack behind it, so your hand would perfectly block the projector as you attempted to set it--really stupid design. Happily not the case with this product. This clock has a modest little focus feature for the projection, which actually worked. The projection numbers are a bit too close together. Sure, it's big enough for a bedside alarm clock. The clock has a nice Daylight Savings Time button on the front of the clock, so with one push of the button you've sprung forward or fallen back. Very smart. But, this button is used twice a year, and how was it decided to put it on the front face. That's a button for the back side. The clock has two separate alarms, which both set on one button and its toggle functions. This is not explained very well in the user manual, so takes some getting used to. You can easily set both alarms without realizing it. But the two alarms are nice if you're a heavy sleeper or a snooze button addict, so you can set them to be sequential. The alarm settings also can be set for Monday thru Friday only, or for seven days a week. That's a nice touch. The radio sound is surprisingly good, clear and with some decent depth. The tuner knob is relatively tight so that you can fine-tune your radio station, and it'll stay put. The tuning and volume dials are not well designed, as they are completely flat to the face of the clock, with just some raised radial bumps for grip. Looks cool, but doesn't work well in practice. Their diameter is good, nice and large, but they are flush to the face of the clock, with just a few perimeter bumps for grip. This doesn't match well with the relative friction of the dials, so you've really got to work the dials. There should be at least a raised handle or even an x-shaped one to make it easier to turn the dials. All you get is an Aux In port (in the back, at the bottom), that's it. Also, it doesn't work for wake-up, unless you're running your digital device all night long; it does not turn on your player for you. It's only good for you manually running your device, through the clock. I note that Electrohome sent me an email within two weeks of my purchase and offered me an extended warranty on this product if I'd write a review (there was no text hinting at wanting a positive review). Now, I've been writing Amazon.com Vine Program reviews for a number of years, and the products are always offered for review first, not as a reward for writing a review. This is bad form, a pseudo-payment predicated on a review. Well, Electrohome, you're getting a review from me, and I've passed on the warranty, as taking it would also be bad form. Bottom line: this is a good product for its price. It is nice and compact, and all the basic functions are easy enough to set up and put into action. It seems to me that there are a few design oversights in the placement of controls, and the user manual explanation of how to use them. For those that have the room and budget, I recommend a fixed 16:9 screen permanently attached to the wall, while a second 4:3 screen may be lowered in front of the 16:9 for regular TV viewing. What you feed into a projector is what it will produce on the screen. Many line doublers or scalers have the ability to convert a 4:3 image to project within a 16:9 screen, so that the height of the image remains constant, but the 4:3 image will then be smaller than the wide 16:9 format screen. Note that a 16:9 screen will use less phosphor area of a CRT tube than a 4:3 screen. If you set up a 4:3 image within a 16:9 screen, even less phosphor area is used, so it will depend on how many hours a year you watch either format and if you plan on changing tubes down the road on your projector as to how you set up your projection screen. Generally speaking, you will most likely see some 4:3 wear within a 16:9 screen after about 4000-5000 hours of use. Conversely, I would estimate that you would see some 16:9 wear within a 4:3 screen after 5000-6000 hours of use. That’s fine if you alone are watching the projector. But if a group of friends are over to watch sports, the ones off axis to the screen will get a lower brightness level. Da-lite and Stewart are also popular screen manufacturers. If it feels smooth or like canvas, then it is fine. If it feels like sandpaper, then it is a glass bead and cannot be used.
