I live in south Lincolnshire, south Holland area, and would welcome help from any one in the area. It would be lovely if anyone knows of a club in the area. Thanks Sue Is there anyone in the South Yorkshire, S73 area, who would be willing to give up some time to help me out. Very kind regards, Alan They contain patterns for various techniques with explanations of how to set up the machine. They are often available on eBay. I’ve always wanted one, but I’m not very successful with the sample pieces in the manual. When the handle is down, in which position should the needles be. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Sue We managed to find a service manual download for the machine and discovered that not only was the handle in the wrong position but the front bed was too high. This caused the back needles to hit the teeth and so jammed the lock. Using the download instructions my husband adjusted the settings and now it knits really well. Thanks again for your help. Sue I’m sure you will enjoy knitting on your Duo. I’ve looked in the instruction book and it’s not very clear as to how it should be positioned. You use this position whenever there are two or more adjacent needles knitting on either bed. If the racking handle is down take it out by pulling it forward firmly. Then re-insert it in the up position making sure the clip on indicator fits into the slot under the front of the machine. Thanks Panama is a 4 ply yarn so try stocking stitch at stitch size 6 to start with. For double bed patterning using a single strand try stitch size 3. You might have to tighten or loosen the stitch size slightly to get the feel you want but these should give you a starting point. Hope this helps. Regards Sue Panama is a 4 ply yarn so try stocking stitch at stitch size 6 to start with. Hope this helps. Regards Sue I bought from eBay June Brereton’s book of Yeoman Panama Summer Tops and have the right yarn, but the pattern says to use a reel of knit-in elastic for the rib. Do I need to use this or is there an alternative way of doing the rib? Thanks. I have a Brother motor and the instructions are easy but I find that Passap give very little information. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks If you are interested I will find out how much it would cost. As for the actual punchcards eBay is a good place to look. Kind regards Sue. These last two are templates which you copy on to blank cards and punch out yourself. Let me know if you are interested and I will find out what the postage will be. Kind regards Sue. It was my Grandmothers, who handed it down to me, with very little instructions on how to use it. Three of my E6000’s have the autocolour attachment and I am lucky in that I own motors for most of my electronic machines and even for my non-electronic machines. With respect the Passap E6000 I own both the 4000 and the 4600 motors with a spare motor for my 4600 that was sold to me by a specialist at that time who did not have the consul attachment or the interface that operated it. On top of that I have a number of Duomatic 80’s and again I have a couple of the old Electra motors. I will leave the Duo’s out of this as its complex enough.http://moskewicz.com/images/1064---you-have-an-error-in-your-sql-syntax-check-the-manual.pdf If your machine is serial number 7 000 000 then you do not have to upgraded the chips but you still require the VM Circuit board sold with the 4600 motor so buyer beware if you see this motor for sale without the above. Motor Summary The spare 4600 motor I was sold is fine for a spare for me as I already bought a machine that operated the 4600 motor and it had been upgraded accordingly. The most useful motor is the 4000 as it does not require any consul upgrade but it does require a 4-colour changer. So to summarise, for the E6000, Electra 4000 and 4600 you require either a colour 600 or an Autocolour 600. Buying a second hand Passap E6000 I suppose nowadays it is getting more and more difficult to buy an E6000 and to ensure it works the way you want it. I should say if you buy from a dealer then you ought to have a guarantee but prices for second hand machines from dealers are way high in comparison. In the real world you need someone used to the machine to go along with you to test it, but I know this is not possible in most cases. I do get pictures sent to me to evaluate, and to be honest, it is very difficult to give constructive advice. I also swapped my Pfaff front lock over to my later Passap model as the lock on this machine had been caught via the motor and damaged the wires - they have been repaired but it did not look pretty. At least I know the provenance of my machines, none have been overused - My Pfaff was bought new by me, and the other three were almost new when I bought them. The machine with the 4600 motor unfortunately had suffered cosmetically but is hardly used and works like a dream. Check the Serial Numbers My advice to all buying a Passap E6000 is to check the serial number, ie anything beginning with a 7 are of later stock. If you want to ensure all that you are buying matches the serial number on the bed, you should also check the locks (serial numbers under) and the consul. All my machines have the updated consuls. So now mine are mixed and matched but all in good condition. The instruction manuals are a must have as you can use them to check all is present and although you can download them online, to me a hard copy is essential. The electronic cables plastic attachments to the masts are also very fragile so be very careful when handling them. I have to note that the Duomatic bits and pieces of the above were built to last unlike the E6000 mast attachments. I stored a couple of my machines in their respective packaging but it has made absolutely no difference to the progress of the yellow colouring of the machines. Would be interesting to know if there are any effects to the plastic. The tables that accommodate the E6000 are excellent and ensure moving the machine and motor is a dawdle. However, you would hear a few curses in the last couple of days, as I had to put them together. Consul reliability One bit of good news is that none of my consuls have ever played up and I always thought that would be the thing that would deteriorate if anything. I managed to fix it and to this day it has never given me any hassle so fingers crossed. The most useful accessory for my machines is the U70 a simple but efficient transfer carriage. A bit of a long-winded post that might be of interest to folk who want to buy this wonderful machine with or without its motor. The first 2 weeks were frustrating trial-and-error learning, but I persevered and managed to master the basics, ultimately producing incredibly rich fabric. I am now on the cusp of garment creation. As my knowledge accumulates, I wanted to add information to the internet to aid others on the same difficult mission of understanding the Passap. Learning It’s important to realize that the Passap is its own craft, totally different from Japanese machines even though they both produce knit stitches. Very little of my Japanese knitting machine knowledge transferred to the Passap. I had to learn to use an entirely new kind of knitting machine, one that has its own computer language and machine jargon. For example, carriages are called locks and underneath the needles of both beds are smaller needle-like objects called pushers. Strippers are used instead of weights, although they can be removed and replaced with weights. It will take a little while to familiarize yourself with the machine and its languages. The Passap is FRAGILE. Needles, tools, strippers, and needle channels break so easily. I can’t believe how easily. Be prepared to change broken needles during the learning process; however, they are surprisingly easy to change, easier than Japanese machines. When learning, any time something isn’t working correctly, do not FORCE. A little force goes a long way to breaking something. Needle channels can become bent with lock jams and force. Locks jam easily. Needle channels are NOT easy to change; though they can be changed, a lot of disassembly has to occur to change out a channel. If you end up with a bent needle channel, the lock will jam like it’s hitting a wall every time it attempts to pass that needle. Trying to force it past will only worsen the bent channel. See below diagnostics table for an alternate solution to replacing a needle channel. I have had much more success, ease of knitting, and greater variance of yarn by using 1x1 technique. Stitch patterns and knit techniques can be mixed and matched beyond what is outlined in the pattern book. I hope to document some of these combinations at a later time. Casting on requires a tighter stitch setting than the actual knitting. Be prepared to cast on at a tight stitch setting and gradually increase the stitch size until you are at the size for the knitting. It’s incredible what a good oiling will do for the needles and pushers, greatly improving the operation of the locks across the bed. Oil each needle and pusher individually and air knit all so the oil is spread well. Blue strippers can be used instead of orange strippers. As mentioned, you can even remove the annoying end springs when using weights. I use a combination of weights and strippers, though lately, when working single bed on the front bed, I use only weights and no black strippers (something is wrong with my black strippers). I imagined to recreate some of the Passap techniques on one of my double-bed Japanese machines, but it quickly became apparent that this is not a readily available task. The automatic patterning abilities of the Passap are on the front bed, which corresponds to the ribber bed on the Japanese machine. Japanese machine patterning is typically controlled on the main bed, which corresponds with the back bed of the Passap. If one attempts to do fancy tuck stitches on a double bed Japanese machine, the tucks will be hidden in the fabric instead of showing on the public side. One would have to manually work the tuck stitches on the ribber bed for them to be seen. If you end up with a bent needle channel, you can file it down instead of changing it out. Use a small, aggressive file to smooth out the edges of the divot until the needle can pass through the channel again. Diagnostics An attempt to capture issues as I work through learning the Passap e6000. This will cause a hard jam.Refer to the service manual on how to remove the cover and elements that are between you and these 2 screws, page 37. You can go through the entire diagnostics or you can skip to adjusting the screws on pages 40-41. Loosen them until no more pushers are being skipped. Last updated June 15, 2019.
