ehx black finger manualThe Black Finger is a warm sounding compressor pedal useful for both guitar and bass, as well as for home recording. This pedal features an all-tube signal path using two premium 12AX7EH vacuum tubes. Carefully reading these instructions will ensure that you will get the most out of your Black Finger. Use only the adapter supplied. Using any other adapter can cause harm to you, the Black Finger and the adapter. Because this attenuator is “passive”-as opposed to the more common “active” AGC (Automatic Gain Control) compressor circuits-it doesn’t add an electronic signature to the signal, thus preserving the tone and character of the original sound. Some gain is needed to adjust the output level so that it matches the original level, and this is accomplished with an all-tube fixed gain pre-amp circuit. In general, compressors are used to sustain melody lines, minimize changes in signal level, or add a “forward” percussive effect to instruments or drums. The LED is very fast and flat in frequency content. Choose this setting for straight-ahead compression effects and sustain. Choose LAMP for a slow attack and a reduced compression on the treble content. This is great for funk chord playing, voice and keyboards. This directly affects only the LAMP setting but you will see a reduction in compression if you leave SQSH on while in LED mode. With this knob turned toward the minimum (counter-clockwise) position, less of the signal will pass the compression threshold. This is one way to dial in less effect. More signal in will mean that more of the signal will pass the compression threshold. The brighter the LED is, the greater the compression. If the STATUS led is off, the unit is in true bypass mode.Electro-Harmonix will repair or replace, at its discretion, a product that fails to operate due to defects in materials or workmanship for a period of one year from date of purchase.http://nv-tel.ru/public/daf-475-manual(1).xml

Great pedal. The Black Finger manual says something about less compression on the highs but I think I’m actually hearing more compression on the highs, and a nice thump on the lows. It sounds to me just like the description of the electro-luminescent lamp in the NY-2a documentation ( ). Additionally, the NY-2a manual says it sounds great for blaring electric guitar, which it does. EL lamps change color with frequency. Additionally, EL lamps produce less light at low frequencies, more in the middle, and most at the top until the capacitance of the lamp lowers the impedance to a short circuit somewhere around 80KHZ. The right choice of lamp, together with a spectrum sensitive photocell, will create a natural “de-essing” circuit that compresses high frequencies more than low. This is excellent for vocals and for loud blaring electric guitar. The EL opto-coupler in the NY-2A has 2 settings: normal, which is generally flat except for a small bump in the bass, and squash, which compresses the top more. Lamp uses an incandescent lamp in the Black Finger.http://schlammatlas.de/en/node/21675 The White Finger is a warm sounding compressor pedal useful for both guitar and bass, as well as for home recording. This pedal features optical compression and an FET signal path. Reading these instructions carefully will ensure that you will get the most out of your White Finger. Because this attenuator is passive, as opposed to the more common active AGC (Automatic Gain Control) compressor circuits, it doesn’t add an electronic signature to the signal, thus preserving the tone and character of the original sound. The signal level sent to the compressor is controlled by both the Pre-Gain and Compress knobs. Some gain is needed to adjust the output level so that it matches the original level, and this is accomplished with an FET fixed gain pre-amp circuit. In general, compressors are used to sustain melody lines, minimize changes in signal level, or add a forward percussive effect to instruments or drums. As the knob is turned clockwise, the compression effect becomes more dramatic and percussive. The LED is very fast and flat in frequency content. The Black Finger is the only Optoisolator Photocell, Dual Vacuum Tube Compressor Pedal on the market! One tube handles the compression stage while the other manages the gain stage. And unlike other ?tube? hyped products on the market, which use 9 to 50 volts, the Black Finger?s design allows a full 300 volts of swing to be utilized. This makes it a true tube compressor in every sense. Whether used as part of an effects loop or with direct guitar, bass or voice, the Black Finger will give music the type of treatment that simply cannot be achieved via plug-in emulation or with any other analog or digital product that doesn?t cost thousands of dollars. The Black Finger breathes life and warmth into any musical instrument or recording and makes it sound magical. It?s further proof the Electro-Harmonix is changing the way players think about their pedals. Be the first to write a review. This is the most detailed and in-depth review of this pedal online. In this review, I’ll answer questions such as: Is it really? That means it’s an optical compressor that uses tube circuits for makeup gain. The first one manages the compression stage while the other handles the gain stage. They both provide different readings and each offers unique compressions. The speed of decay is also different. The best way I could describe it is it tightens everything up. It doesn’t color your tone at all. After all, it’s not designed to sound like the Ross or Dynacomp pedals. You can use it for mild compression on your clean parts. It doesn’t matter what settings you have at the moment. This is all thanks to the pre-gain knob, which is probably the most important control on the pedal. Some even produce that annoying percussive sound. In contrast, Black Finger sounds warm, musical, and beautiful. It warms up the harshness that often comes with piezo pickups. It’s actually the best compression I’ve heard with a steel-stringed acoustic. It’s just below three minutes anyway: You won’t believe how much difference it makes for both clean and dirty tones. Your POD will sound like a whole new amp. It’s true bypass. I really love this pedal. Here’s why: And then you have the lower compression levels which help keep the noise low. I showed him mine and he couldn’t believe how quiet it was compared to the Black Finger he tried out. For example, I find that you’ll get noise if you add too much input gain. Dial your gain settings just right. This pedal sounds amazing. I own compressors that cost way more and I still use this in most situations. It’s that amazing. It smoothens out the tone so well, everything ends up sounding amazing. You can use it as an overdrive and you’ll get some grunge. And if you dial it correctly, you can add some EQ and DI bass sounds. If you’re using a solid state amp or preamp, you need to boost your bass’ signal to line level. It’s very nice and durable and made in the U.S.A. This unit is definitely not a spray-on-surface junk. First, the placement is just plain weird. Second, I’d prefer a bigger or fatter plug for a pedal this size. If you didn’t see the features above, the shipping weight is 2.85 lbs or 1.29 kg. The controls themselves react well and I find them intuitive to use. But once I did, it sounded amazing. I really couldn’t imagine playing without this pedal anymore. It will give you an idea on how to dial in a compressor pedal to achieve the kind of sound you want. I like this setting because it allows me to dial a great sound with my amp. The Black Finger helps me tame the VOX and make it way more usable. Click here to check the current price on Amazon. It’s a solid, American-made pedal. In terms of value for the money, this pedal is worth it. Generally, things cost more because they’re better, and that’s the case with Black Finger. If you’re looking for a way to get that kind of sound, the Black Finger is a way to do it for cheap. And if it’ll break or get lost, I’d get a new one on the spot. If you have a noisy pedal on your board, you can even use the Black Finger to regulate them. This is coming from someone who’s owned a lot of pedals. I love it because of its tubey, harmonic distortion combined with its tube compression. It makes the output sound so much fuller. It enhances the tone so much. I used to have decent overdrive but it wasn’t really “rocking”. This pedal came and changed everything. It actually sounds more like the overdrive from the 60’s and 70’s. After 7 yrs with this pedal I can only confirm it’s strengths and weaknesses as described by the reviewer to be entirely accurate. And I’m sure many are equal to their price. But what E. H. Have done is produce a vastly simplified version of the finest studio units using the essentials of epic tone.. (valves, intelligent controls and toroidal transformers. ) to provide musicians with audio quality to rival the finest that money can provide. It has a musicality associated with units many more times expensive. I’m not exaggerating that if you can get one you’ll be thankful you did Try searching here: Read more about what we do. Subscribe to our free newsletter Request a new review UTILIZATION The configuration is very easy but also comprehensive for a compressor: five controls seem to be a lot in the beginning but each one has a very precise function. Very short and poor user's manual: only one sheet of paper. SOUND QUALITY This compressor is very effective and it adds a nice color to the sound due to the tubes.Once you find the right setting you won't need to touch the pedal again, unless it's a studio session. But I think the signal to noise ratio is too low for that anyway. It's a stage product. Caution: it's not easy to find the right setting, and it might generate a bit of noise. I bought it because I wasn't satisfied with my Roland DB900 and this compressor is actually very different. I finally have that big bass sound with limited peaks I was expecting. I think you can also use it with other electric instruments. It clearly adds presence to the sound. It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it because it does a great job. OVERALL OPINION I've only had it for six months but I've send it twice to the service center already because of a manufacturing defect. I wasn't used to this with Electro Harmonix. And I waited a long time before getting it back. Ever since it started working properly I can't play without it anymore. It enhances my sound a lot, adding more presence to it. I connect it to the output of a Sansamp Bass Driver, and these two effects are enough to get a round and warm sound in almost every setup. Did you find this review helpful? yes no. UTILIZATION Configuration is very simple, you can easily find the desired sound.SOUND QUALITY I use this pedal directly between my jass bass Squier VM (crel microphones) or my Cort B4 FL and my amp head (TC electronic BH250) and 410 Ashdown ABM 115 coupled to an ABM. I mainly use the lamp mode, the pre and post gain noon. In addition to the compression, this brings the pedal and a heat gain to the sound, without fundamentally changing thereof.Even with my passive bass directly plugged this pedal, I have no hiss or background noise mentioned in some reviews. OVERALL OPINION I use it for about 15 days. As usual with EHX, it looks solid. What I like least is its size, weight and power supply dedicated.I used a multicomp EBS before, which I found very (too) transparent. BF offers a real plus to the sound. 2 of 3 people found this review helpful Did you find this review helpful? yes no. Switch true bypass relay (if the power supply is cut off the pedal, the pedal automatically switches to bypass, this is very handy). UTILIZATION We were told many things about this pedal, for good or not, I do confirm that: getting a nice clean sound is quite delicate. There are two reasons: the BF is made to work with low impedance, so if possible with a pre-amplified signal and then an active instrument. It is not desirable to try to boost the signal by increasing the gain, because it may significantly degrade the sound and add a big breath. BF is not a preamp, the input level should be sufficient, without being line level, if it saturates. It limits the blow quite use. Deuxio, the settings are all very interactive, it should not look bad to get what we want. For example, the input gain plays a lot on getting the compression. This is the control in the second set after the compression. At the same time we must not push too, or else watch the breath or saturation (which is not nice at all). There must be more gain to compensate for the loss of volume. I do not like this method because it seems to lose momentum, but it can be nice to smooth an instrument without too much sustain. My favorite setting is the following, on acoustic and electric guitar: Location: ahead in the effects loop of the preamp AMT SS11. I get very hot and very compressed sound. This setting back substantially all of the lower levels means all breads and glissers strings. But that's what I love the most, for me to play clean then. In fact, the quality of sound from this pedal is simply excellent, once it is left tamed. OVERALL OPINION I took me months before allowing me to post a review, story to go around. Initially I bought it to warm up a POD (but nothing did). Then I plugged into a preamp tube, wondering if it was justified. Then I had to change the lights, I had to remove because I had bad contacts and I really failed to sell it short, it was a bit I love you me either. Plus it takes up so much that it has an interest to be essential. And with patience, I finally found what I wanted. It perfectly complements my preamp, so I keep it. 10 of 10 people found this review helpful Did you find this review helpful? yes no. UTILIZATION Careful to respect the neutral and phase feeding on the pedal. Let me explain. If your power supply does not keyed (mine was purchased in the UK and the adapter did not land, so it is possible to plug in one direction or the other), but he is important to respect the meaning, despite the a priori of each on the fact that it is not important since it is the alternative. Big mistake is VERY IMPORTANT. By turning the PSU, the breath has disappeared. Amazing is not it? SOUND QUALITY So that's the sound quality is of course to the rendezvous. His warm, beautiful harmonics, beautiful vintage compression. The bass sound is magnificent. For 150 euros is not bad. 2 of 4 people found this review helpful Did you find this review helpful? yes no I THE tube sound, it adds tremendous energy to my sound. I like the fact that we can determine the quantity of heat (1 lamp preamp and compression) Compression is excellent, I am repeating myself but it should be stressed in vintage, natural, fishing on the sound of hell.OVERALL OPINION Bluffing! 3 of 3 people found this review helpful Did you find this review helpful? yes no. Huge pedal but so effectively. UTILIZATION The pedal is fairly easy to use even for a neophyte. Not too sorcerer, even if it requires a certain refinement of course. Question is really SOUND QUALITY compression efficiency. It's beautiful, colorful, this is rich. Used on my bass, I win in definition and sustain. But, and this is where the bottom lies, I win too much in the background. It is quite manageable for the live but it makes sense to my pedal unusable recording. Too bad because its got the heat with this machine is absolutely unparalleled in this price range. Purchased OVERALL OPINION there is a little over a year, I referred to the opinions of AF and I did not regretted. A pedal which I can not do without live. Especially on my Ashdown; inserted loop it gives me a visible gain of punch and intelligibility. So what else to say except that I finally have it through this heat vintage that was lacking in my amp. 3 of 4 people found this review helpful Did you find this review helpful? yes no. UTILIZATION The configuration is relatively simple though gnrale labore enough for a compressor, five pots of rglage seems a lot to beginners, but closer examination they each have a function trs pr precise. The manual is insignificant, a small piece of paper at the bottom of the box and dbrouille you with a. SOUND QUALITY Compression is effective and beautifully colored particulirement by the lamps must be said that.Once found the right one rgal rglage is no need to touch it except to the studio, but APRS me it is too noisy for this purpose is the stuff of scne. Attention, proper rglage is the limit of breath, not easy to find. I bought it because I n'tais not satisfied with the compressor too discreet for my DB ROLAND 900 and I admit that there is no picture. In short it is more than a good job, but 170 we expected no less when same. OVERALL OPINION I use it for six months, but left twice in default for SAV production. I confess I n'tais not used to with Electro Harmonix and d.Since he oprationnel confess that I can not do without it as it boosts its presence in my sound, I use the output of a Sansamp Bass Driver and these two effects alone than enough to get a round and warm from of any prs little stuff. 3 of 3 people found this review helpful Did you find this review helpful? yes no. UTILIZATION Configuration-gnrale could not be more simple, the only BMOL is the lack of knobs for graduation -Edition trs also sounds simple, 1 or 2 hours of testing and it finds her. Default of bte: a breath. The beast comes in a wooden box sealed (in case the post would have liked to play with?). The pedal comes in the form of a spare part tank of the first World War, with a black grille to protect the small lights. In any case, he gives an impression of strength even if the case seems rather thin. Anyway, it's not made to jump in with both feet. UTILIZATION Level settings, it's Electro-Harmonix, so kindergarten level. The manual is reduced to its simplest form: an A5 sheet, quite useful to understand the function selectors. SOUND QUALITY Once connected, it is the slap, not possible, it sounds too good !!!!! I use it mainly upstream of the preamp, just after my wah. This pedal really brings something to my sound. More dynamic, heat, in the words of one of my friends, my sound has the thigh. I expected anything but that, suddenly, it became a kind of boost that adds compression. I tell you, this pedal is miraculous. Playing mostly music from raw, it is mainly used in lead as it adds just the right compression (no kidding!) But also potato! In clean, the sound becomes more crystalline, more slamming, in short, that's good. The only downside to this is the rather unpleasant noise it generates. OVERALL OPINION I use it for a year and a half, and this pedal has become indispensable to me. It fits all my needs without fail. It is an integral part of my set. Price to pay, I grant you, but this effect is well worth the. I remember the day my friend Buckaroo Banzai was tried for the first time.Anyway, if I loose one day, I bought one without hesitation! 6 of 6 people found this review helpful Did you find this review helpful? yes no By using our services, you agree to our use of cookies. Find out more. When used in LED mode, you get a reduction in compression and a faster attack and release. The inverse happens when the pedal is in lamp mode, so you get more compression but a slower attack and release. However, the Black Finger seems to be the exception to this. The compression circuit has the vintage warmth and squash you find in old studio compressors, and the pre-gain section has a gain profile reminiscent of what you’d get in a tube amp. Because of this, Electro-Harmonix uses a proprietary power supply for the unit (which is included with your purchase). However, should you choose to purchase this pedal do not open it unless you know what you’re doing. The power running through the pedal is enough to seriously injure or kill you. The company makes really good products, but according to user reviews there’s a lot of variance in the components they use for their different pedals. This pedal in particular seems to produce a lot of electric noise, so if you decide to purchase it you may want to invest in a noise gate.
