Things You'll Need Two AA batteries This programming ensures your fish receive the proper amount of food at regular intervals, reducing wasted food. Wasted food sits in the bottom of the aquarium and leads to algae growth, which can cause your aquarium to look dirty, and toxic bacterial and protozoal blooms, which can kill your fish. Slide a second AA battery, negative (-) end up, into the front of the battery compartment. Click the battery compartment lid over the batteries. Place a thumb on the recessed area of the food canister. Push toward the top of the canister to remove the canister lid. Set the canister lid aside. Push the canister lid onto the canister. Push the assembled canister onto the control head. The canister will snap when seated. Slide the adjuster, located in the recessed area of the canister, to the amount of food required for your fish at a single feeding. Pros: 1) Simplicity - this product is super simple to manage and program. I lost the owners manuals a couple of months ago and honestly with three to four buttons, you don't really need the manual to figure out how to program this device. Also the amount regulator is really easy to adjust (tiny plastic door) depending on the quantity of food you want to distribute. I am a sucker to over-feeding, and working with mostly nano tanks, I have gone through every problem that too much food can bring. From algae, to smelly water, to fat fish, to being tempted into an extra pinch of food for entertainment's sake, yeah I made all those mistakes and paid for every single one of them. Now I can go weeks without ever touching the fish food which gives me a baseline to adjust the amount if I need to. It also helps me diagnose problems without worrying about the variable of over-feeding as a cause. 3) Dependability - been using this device for months without a hitch. Mainly I wanted to use this as a helper during vacations, but I wanted to make sure it would do the job while I was watching it. Sure enough, after a couple of months I never ran into a technical problem with this product. Also the 'dissolving' food option for vacationers seemed like a cheaper route, but the reviews I read about those products, scared me away with putting so many extra chemicals into the water (btw when you are away for multiple weeks you probably aren't going to have someone do water changes). Cons: (yes I still would give this product 5 stars) 1) Different types of food - will require a second feeder. I have corys and gouramis in the same tank so I need two of these devices to make sure both get the food they need. For the gouramis I have flake food, but for the corys I have sinking pellets. I have thought about mixing the two together and having just one device, but I realized earlier on that the consistency would seriously fail if I tried this. 2) Food of different sizes - could get stuck. So this doesnt really matter for flake food, but if you have bettas and the pellets are of different sizes then you might want to switch to flakes. If you leave the door to tight, the large particles could get stuck and block the food from coming out, but if you open the door too wide, you could end up dropping too much food. Bottom line, unless the pellets are consistently the same size, go for the flake food AND err on the side of not dropping a lot of food. 3) Moisture - don't place over an air stone or HOB filter. I learned this the hard way coming back from a one week vacation. I positioned the feeder over an airstone, and the water splashes ended around and inside the container. After a week all the food was rotten and was caked into the feeder (the fish were fasting for quite a few days). Rachel O'leary mentioned this, that if you have a really moist or humid fish room, you shouldn't use fish feeders at all, and I totally agree with her. But keeping the feeder away from my HOB filter and air stone was perfect in keeping all of the food dry for weeks upon weeks. 4) Forgetting - to change or re-fill food. This is a great problem to have btw, but I do forget to refill or adjust the programming base on my fish stock at the moment. For example, if I move a whole mess of fish out of a tank and forget to adjust the amount of food dropped, then I can easily run into a problem of over-feeding. While this is clearly an operator's error, a practice not done everyday is easy to forget. Those are my thoughts on this feeder, even with all the cons to keep in mind, I would definitely give this product 5 stars and I will continue to buy only this brand because it works for me. Please note that I have not used any other brand, but I did comb through all the reviews before settling on this device and I think the pros greatly outweigh my concerns. Hope this review helped. My aquarium is in my office, so I wanted it to feed my fish over the weekend while I'm away. Product arrived as described with no damage to the box or internal components. Set-up was relatively straightforward and I had it feeding my fish once a day without problem. I did have some trouble metering out the correct dose of food. I use New Life Spectrum 1mm pellet food to feed two clownfish and a royal gramma. In order to prevent too much food from dumping, I had to close the sliding door down to the smallest possible opening, then taped half of the opening closed with scotch tape. It worked for about 2 months when I noticed that there were no characters on the display. I also couldn't get it to turn with the manual feed button. I thought it was just the cheap batteries that shipped with the unit, so I changed them out, but still nothing. I inspected the battery terminals; there was some rusty buildup on one which I was able to clean off. It still didn't work. I then looked closely at the circuit board which is visible when the battery cover is removed. I could see a bunch of build-up corrosion near one of the capacitors, I assume a result of evaporation from the tank affecting the electronics. I was able to blow some of this off with a can of air. This got the device to the point where faint numbers would flicker on the screen. The drum would also start rotating if the manual button was pressed, but it wouldn't stop. I called EHEIM given that the product has a 36 month guarantee. Could I buy one and have them refund the purchase.Nope. Well, I guess if I have two units, and they last around 2 months a piece, and servicing takes close to 2 months, I'll just be swapping back and forth with the service center. Don't you think they would somehow insulate the electronics from humidity in a product that is meant to hang on to the edge of a fish tank?Easy to program. Only downside was that the hole was too big for red tiny bit fish food. So opened it to the second setting and used a piece of teflon tape wrapped around electrical tape to cover most of the opening. I left a tiny square open and adjusted the opening until I had the right amount of food. I'm not sure if the Teflon tape is required but I didn't want the red tiny bits to stick to the electrical tape. It works great and kept our fish live for a month absence. This product did not work and I found out after losing fish. Worthless product, worthless customer service, worthless warranty.I have it feed my 55g twice a day. I feed small pellet food, about the size of sand. Yes, if you have the door open too much it'll dump food in. I did a couple test pours into a plastic bag so I could get it just right. I have it set on about 1.5 notches and it's worked perfectly for me. As you can see from my picture, it does get a little bit on my light, but it doesn't bother me. The feeder has helped me automate my tank, which is one less thing to worry about.Few niggles: the food container is very large, so when going away e.g. on holiday I do not want to waste the whole feeding box, especially as I feel it is wiser to provide smaller pieces of fish food (e.g. crush flakes down a bit) and feed sparingly via only a tiny opening in the feeder drum which is at one long end of the drum. Even when broken up. Second time I chose to use Micro granules (e.g. Hikari ones), a few broken-up Pleco tablets and broken up flakes, so that I can only feed very small amounts. Previously broken up Cory tablets somewhat clogged the opening. Test it well beforehand to see how much food dispenses. The product is well thought through, yet quite pricey, but overall recommend. It is difficult to judge the opening for the quantity of food you want it to deliver. I also found it hard to fit to the top of my aquarium so that it sits flat and when it turns it doesn't drop half the food onto the lid of the aquarium and half into the slot (still working on that one). It also gets quite damp from humidity so not sure I would trust it for my 2 week hols which is a shame. I have purchased a different type and will try using both for different times of the day so at least if one gets clogged or fails the other will still work as a back up. Quite expensive for what it isI bought it in advance of when I needed it to feed my fish whilst on holiday to make sure everything worked well and to make sure the amount of food delivered was the correct amount. I found the feeder easy to set up for the clock, the feeding time and the number of feeds to be dispensed. It came with batteries and they are still working well 4 weeks after receiving the feeder and the feeds are being dispensed exactly when required and with the correct amount. Having relied on family and neighbours to feed my fish before, I am now happy that this year they will continue to be fed regularly whilst I'm away using this feeder. I would recommend this fish feeder to anyone looking for this type of solution to holiday fish feeding problems. No problems seen on return home, fish happy and well fed and best of all, we didn't have to pester friends or family to come over and feed them, which I'm sure made them happy too. I didn't use flake food though, only small pellet food. My aquarium is a marine fowlr set up.Added bonus, it’s waterproof.Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1 In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. Patricia Roadcap 5.0 out of 5 stars It was very easy to set up, the instructions were clear and well-written, and the device works very well. I especially like that you can control exactly how much food is dispensed, as it adds a lot of flexibility to the way you feed your fish. You could have a daily dump of a large quantity of food, or you could have several small meals throughout the day. You should note that the minimum setting for the feeder is once per day. I would have preferred to set it up once every few days, but controlling the amount of food dispensed makes this a non-issue. Overall, I find this auto-feeder to be simple, effective, and inexpensive. I'd definitely recommend this product to my fellow aquarium enthusiasts. Side note: Yes, my tank doesn't look very good right now, I'm working on it XD.It was super easy to install and use. Has a large door so it's not easy for the food to jam or crust over inside of it, unlike our old one. Does exactly as described. We tested it out for a few days before taking off for the weekend to make sure it worked properly and that our fish would be fed. We feed them a few times a day and was able to program this to continue on with the feeding cycle. I liked that this had the option to feed up to four times a day and do a double feeding, for if you had lots of fish, where our old one had twice a day, 12 hours apart and that is it. We are very pleased with this purchase. This feeder stays so much cleaner than our last one and is just all around easier to use. They were hard to understand at first until I got the hang of it. The part that comes off for refilling with food is extremely difficult to remove and put back on. You have to twist it off somehow without causing the mechanism to spin around, which is not recommended per the instructions. I've managed to fill it a few times without breaking it so I must be doing something right. It doesn't really expel that much food but I have mine set to feed my 55 gallon fish tank 4 times a day so it will satisfy my scaly pets. I actually mix my food with pellets and flakes and it works fine. It connects perfectly fine to the side of my fish tank and can easily mount to any size. The only negative to having this automatic feeder is that you have to have a portion of the lid opened at all times so it can dispense directly into the water. This has been running for several months now and I have not had to change the batteries on it. Needless to say it does not exert that much energy to spin around 4 times a day.So I saw an automatic feeder at the local box store. Well the sales rep was not very helpful as they had no experience with the brand name product they sold.So here comes the PROCHE Digital Automatic Fish Feeder here on Amazon. I immediately came home and started to look for feeders here on Amazon. There were a few available that fit the bill, but the one I originally wanted was not available for PRIME shipping. As I was shopping at the last minute, PRIME was a must. The PROCHE Digital Automatic Fish Feeder was actually cheaper than the other one I was looking at, but it had less reviews (yes, I am still swayed in reviews.). Most importantly, it was available for PRIME shipping that same day so I bought it. I am glad I did. The unit comes with multiple mounting options, either a screw mount, if you have an open top tank (or at least a somewhat open top so you can mount the feeder to hang over your tank), or a sticker mount. As this was only a temporary solution, I made my own temporary mount out of packaging tape. (it worked, and it came right off after I returned after vacation). The kids and I were all very excited when we came home to fishtank full of happy fish. No fish died and there was no excessive food in the tank or filters. This is probably because you can adjust how much food comes out with each serving, and you can program it to feed up to 4x a day. All in all, this is a great purchase, and I have had no issues or dead fish. Strongly recommend.Pro-E works. I have an Eheim which this appears to be a “knockoff.” There is no comparison as the Eheim is much sturdier and heavier. This is lightweight and chintzy in comparison. It was cheaper but you get what you pay for here. I edited this review after the seller contacted me and sent another one to try. Unfortunately they sent the Pro-E and not the Pro-X. The Pro-E does seem to be better made and sturdy. It is very similar to the Imaginarium brand I already have. It works great for flakes. However, I needed the Other product for feeding just a few pellets for one betta. So the 4 stars is for the Pro-E and for the seller’s willingness to make things right.Fortunately I was able to get more detailed instructions from the seller and now I'm able to make it work. I'm halfway in between liking it and loving it. I'd have to say that the reason why I am not completely in love with it is because it is very bulky. It's hard to attach this to a tank when you have a hood in place that completely covers the hood. I had to make alterations to my setup to keep this in place. Also, sometimes it dumps out more food and less at different times. I'm not sure if that is my fault and the choice of food I'm using (combination of flakes and pellets). At the end of the day I am glad to have it and it helps keep the fish fed when my partner and I go on short weekend trips. The required quantity as well as the same daily feeding time can be programmed reliably with the relevant number of turns. The ventilation system and positioning of the container guarantees absolutley dry food. The ventilation fan blows a stream of air through the feed drum while it rotates. Therefore moisture is prevented from entering the food drum while the opening is in the downward position. Can also be manually operated. Program up to 4 daily feeding cycles of flake food or granules, choosing between single portion, double portion with 1-minute interval, or manual override. All your programmed choices are presented on an easy-read LCD screen. Features a transparent reservoir for “at-a-glance” monitoring of food level and integrated ventilator to prevent moisture from spoiling food or clogging the unit. Two AA batteries included; low battery indicator on cover. Feeding drum volume of 100ml (3.3 fl oz) holds approximately 6 weeks of food. Pay attentions to the proper polarity of the batteries. Note: DO NOT use rechargeable batteries. Closing the Housing Cover Insert the upper edge of the Drive Unit and pivot downwards until the lock engages. The feeding procedure will still be carried out, but the batteries should be replaced. After about three days, the entire Display will blink and the device will shut off automatically in order to prevent the Feed Container from stopping in a downward position. This extends the time interval for feeding without engaging additional feeding times. The current time is displayed whenever you see the blinking arrows. The feeding times are differentiated by digits (1-4) appearing on the upper section of the Display. With MODE, the displayed time can be changed between Hours and Minutes, as well as the Feeding Mode. The next feeding time will be displayed and it can be programmed in the same manner. Clean the Drum, making sure it is dry before filling it with food. Place the cover back on and insert the Drum unit onto the Axis. The Automatic Feeder is recommended for dry fish foods such as flake food and granules. DO NOT use for live or freeze dried foods. For larger amounts, program the Feeder for double portion. Be sure not to cover the air-intake opening. Water changes, regular cleaning, feeding, and attention to your tank. I try to keep my maintenance regimen simple, but there is a minimum level of effort to keep everyone in the tank healthy. Inevitably, there comes a time when you have to leave town and then the reality sets in: what am I going to do with the fish! In my research, this model of fish feeder had very good user reviews. Most people are giving the Eheim auto fish feeder very good reviews with only a few negative comments. I was hopeful that it would meet our needs and decided to set one up for our holiday vacations. This translucent drum has an opening on one side with an adjustable door. The door’s position controls the opening size and how much food is dispensed with each feeding cycle. A feeding cycle takes place when the unit rotates this food bin where the opening (which is normally located at the top) cycles to point down to dispense food, then back up in the normal position. Great to give them an unscheduled snack or to test the unit. This helps to ensure that the food does not stick together and jam up the dispensing opening. The first is the simplest, and that is to simply set the unit on a flat surface with the bin portion of the feeder hanging over the surface of your aquarium water. This is the mounting method used for our Fluval Spec V aquarium. It has a clear acrylic top with an opening in the center. I rearranged our light to make room for the feeder to dump into this center opening. Everything is tight, but it works. The mounting clamp is attached to the feeder’s bottom with an included small phillips head screw.
