For exa mple, si nce more memory is r equired t o program a S MARTNET system than a conventi onal sy stem, the total number o f channel s decr eases as the n umber of SM ARTNET syste ms increa ses. The programmin g soft ware disp lays a bar grap h which shows th e amount of avai lable memor y space that i s used by th e curr ent d ata. 1.1.4.3 Zones A zone is a col lectio n of up to 16 cha nnels of any t ype. For example, a zone c ould incl ude 12 convent ional cha nnels and 4 SMARTNET cha nnels. One us e of zones may be to program t he channel s used for operat ion in a s pecific geogra phical ar ea. Up to 54 z ones can be pr ogrammed de pending on t he opt ion enable d. All a djustme nts are ma de electr onica lly using the so ftware (no manua l adjust ments ar e requ ired). The acces sory cabl e plugs into the accessor y pigta il of th e radio, a nd is used t o conne ct such thi ngs as an externa l speaker, igni tion sens e input, an d a horn alert. I t includ es two 22-foot and thr ee 2-foot wires th at are co nnected as requi red to ext ernal poi nts. Th e adapter cable is used to connect a 86xx-s eries powe r cable t o these ra dios. Lockable Mount ing Tray - Thi s bracket allows t he radio t o be lo cked in pl ace to guard against theft. I n addi tion, it a llows it to be easi ly unlock e d and r emoved from t he vehicl e. Microphones and Speaker - Th e microphone s in Ta ble 1.1 have an impedance of 620 ohms. All DTMF mic rophone s are backl ighted. Th e environme ntall y sealed mi crophone is seale d against such th ings as rain, sa nd, and dust. The desk micr ophone can be used for control stat ion appli cations. The exter nal 15 -watt spe aker can be used i n place of the in ternal 5 -watt spea ker. I t is non- amplifi ed and weath erproo f. This spe aker is c onnect ed to pins 1 and 2 of t he acce ssory connecto r pigtai l on th e back of t he rad io. Audio power outpu t is 12 wat ts with t his exter nal speake r or 5 w atts w ith th e inte rnal s peak er. Control Sta tion Power Supply - With the -4001- medium-dut y power suppli es, the rad io slides into th e power supp ly hous ing and rec eives power from ban ana jac ks on the ba ck of the power sup ply. The st andard power cable is used for co nnecting powe r, and the in ternal radio s peaker provides s peaker audio. The -004 ada pter c able is u sed to connect th e radio DC and acces sory pi gtail c ables to the power su pply power cable a nd speaker. The rad io intern al spe aker can al so be u sed if des ired. Th e cables f rom the RPI to comput er and rad io are not include d with the RPI and mus t be order ed separa tely.Contact Cust omer Servi ce for more infor mation on th e availab ility of encry ption module s. A key loade r and an ad apter cable are require d to load e ncrypt ion keys. The EFJohns on Technolog i es SMA (Subs criber Man agement Assistant ) key loader part number is li sted in Table 1.1. W ith OTAR, the key loader i s require d to perf orm the ini tial lo ad of keys a nd after t hat the keys are loade d over the air. Spec ial progr amming using PC Configu re is als o requir ed as descri bed in Se ction 2. 1.5 Secure Communication Note Refer t o the 53 00 ES Mobile Ra dio Opera ting Manual for more infor mation on secure communicat ion. These protocols digiti ze the voi ce and then encryp t it usi ng a DES or AES algori thm. Re fer to Sec tion 11 of the Oper ating Manua l for your radio for mor e informat ion.Encryption on ana log channel s is not FIPS cer tified. The keylo ader i s connecte d direct ly to t he radio using an interco nnect c able, and i t loads DES, DES-OFB, and AES key s. Currentl y, OTAR can be use d to load DES-OFB k eys on Project 25 convent ional cha nnels. Refer to Se ction 10 of the Opera ting Manual for you r radio for m ore OT AR in format ion. 1.5.3 Key Retention Note The 5300 ES S eries mobile radi o has a security featu re (push- button swi tch S1 o n the logic bo ard) that automat ically e rases the encryp tion keys when the bot tom cov er is removed ( except when Infinit e Key Ret ention i s programmed a s follows ). If Infi nit e Key Reten tion Infini te Ke y Rete ntio n is p rogr ammed, the keys a re ma intai ned in memory i ndefinitel y, even without power appli ed. If it is not pr ogrammed, the radio must be con necte d to an unswi tched p ower source to pr eserve th e encry ption keys in memory. However, a storage capac itor (C173, 0.22 F) mai ntains th e 5-volt supply (and t he encrypt ion key s) for app roximat ely eight hours if power is t emporaril y lost. 1.6 T ypical Performanc e Specificatio ns. This sec tion c ontains s pecif ications inte nded for us e in te sting and servicing thi s mobile radio. Fo r curr ent adver tise d specifi cations, refer to the sp ecification s heet a vailable from your sal es rep resentat ive. Va lues are t ypical a nd are subject t o chang e without n otice. Ope ration o f th e 53SL ES a nd Ascen d ES mobile radios are desc ribed in the 53SL ES Seri es Mobile Ra dio Opera tion Manual and the Asc end ES Series Mobile Ra dio Operati ng Manual respec tively. These manu als are availa ble from your E FJohnson Tech nologies dealer. Oth er RPIs such as 023- 9800-00 0 and 023-975 0-000 ar e not c ompatible with th is radio. 2.1.2.1 Connect ing RPI T o Computer The Radio Pro grammi ng Interf ace (RPI) pr ovides the requir ed logic in terface between t he computer and ra dio. The c able from the RPI to computer i s not included with the RPI. The RPI has a f emale DB9 conn ector, and most comput er seri al ports have a ma le DB9 or DB25 connect or. Therefor e, a male DB9 to fe male DB9 or DB25 is usu ally requir ed. This is a st andard cab le avai lable at most comput er supply s tores or order 6 foot. DB9M to DB9F cable, P art Number 59 7-5900-002. 2.1.2.2 Connect ing RPI T o Radio The progr amming setup f or a fro nt mount rad io is shown in Figu re 2.1. Wit h radios that use the s tandard f ront or remote c ontrol uni t, th e cable fr om the RPI pl ugs int o the microphone jack of the radio or contr ol unit. This cable is Part Number 023-5 300-005, and it is n ot includ ed with the RPI. Conne cting the progr amming set up to the h andheld control ler is d escri bed in the next s ection. Set the “Control ler Typ e” param eter o n the Global tab of the PC Con figure programmin g software for “Handhe ld” instead of “Normal”. 2.1.4 Siren Programming When the optio nal sire n featur e is i nstalle d (see the 5300 Ser ies Mobile Install ation Manual ), one ra dio progr amming para meter may nee d to be changed for pr oper oper ation of the s iren cont roller backli ght.
