As you drive, the engine computers are continuously working to learn about the way you drive your vehicle and will adjust the way other modules perform. Which enables your vehicle to run as efficiently as possible. Because your ECU learns about your driving habit constantly since it has the capacity to store tons of data including your trouble codes which is extremely useful information when diagnosing possible faults within your vehicle. Analyzing this personal data and learning how to reset your ECM are both essential during this diagnostic phase. Before replacing any parts you want to reset your ECM to ensure that part replacements are absolutely necessary. There are a few ways to reset your control modules. Drive the car for at least 10 miles for the ecu to learn, if there is a problem with your vehicle then the check engine light will come back on and you can analyze the fault code that the ECM throws. These codes will guide you towards the root of the problem and you can begin replacing parts to try to fix the issue. Upon installation of the new parts you want to continue to reset your computer so that the engine control can “learn” the new parts and store this new data. PS ( make sure you do not have any battery cable issues and have a backup power handy before you reset the ecu). In this instance, you want to reset your engine control modules manually through the fuse box. The fuse box is located on the passenger side next to the battery. When your vehicle has properly warmed up then you want to turn your vehicle back off and unplug both fuses, cut power by disconnecting the battery. After a few minutes all the old data should be reset so plug the fuses back in and turn your vehicle back on. You will want to leave your vehicle at idle for at least 10 minutes which will give your ECM enough time to “learn” any new modifications installed on your vehicle. Because the auto ECU is such a sensitive module, it is very important to reset the unit after modifications are installed or else the new modifications may conflict with the way the engine performed previously. Resetting your car computer will do no harm to your vehicle and should always be done when any replacements are installed like a fuel filter, knock sensor even you when after work on your car air conditioning or any diagnostics are performed. Do not hesitate to check your repair manuals or the owners manual if you want to replace your vehicle ECM. Different car models can operate at different temperature, terrains and altitudes, and they use varying fuels with different purity and octane ratings. That being said, the ECU or Electronic Control Unit of cars is pre-set to suit the requirements of all, and it can be adapted to the individual driving style of its owners. Many people think that they have no control over their vehicle’s ECU system, but that is not the case. This oneHOWTO article will instruct a car owner on how to reset your ECU system, that too without the company noticing it or without damaging your car’s warranty. Basically, your car’s ECU system intends to learn about your car’s engine as you drive. In this learning process, the ECU tracks tolerance changes of your car engine’s actuators and sensors. Some of these values are the position of automatic choke while the car is idle, and the injectors’ trim gain as well. The values that the ECU system learns are stored in the RAM. This RAM is backed-up by a battery, so that it remains saved even when the engine is off. This means that it reads the saved values every time you turn on your engine, and starts from there only, instead of starting from zero. When you decide to reset your ECU system, you intend to clear all the saved logs and long term memory that your ECU system has till date. These logs include idle speed, spark, fuel etc. Trouble codes are also saved in the ECU system for diagnostic purposes.https://www.becompta.be/emploi/boss-br-1180cd-manual When you reset your ECU, you will set these values to a neutral default, and also clear all the saved trouble codes. Now stop, open your car’s bonnet and remove the lead of earth from the battery. Make sure that the end of the lead is not in contact with any other metal surface of your car Wait for 5 minutes. Depress the brake for around 20 seconds so as to completely discharge the capacitors of the ECU system through brake lights. Now, your ECU system has lost all of its saved memory. Now, reconnect the lead of earth to the battery and close the bonnet. The basic step towards resetting the ECU system is to remove the backup power source altogether. To keep the values saved, cars have a fuse that goes right into the battery. Usually, this is the same fuse and line that powers up your radio. You can find this fuse near your fuse box, usually on the lower right hand side of your footlight controls. Follow these step by step instructions for this method: Pull out your car’s key Pull out the fuse as well Wait for 15 seconds and put it back in This is an easier way of removing any long term memory saved in your car’s ECU system. Whether you are interested in increasing its performance or making your car more flexible and economical, drive it in the same style and your ECU system will adapt to your individual driving style. Learn more It regulates several key car functions to ensure that the car is running efficiently. Some of the functions of the ECM include; checking the oxygen to fuel ratio, tracking idle speed, and controlling the variable valve timing as well as the ignition timing to increase power or fuel economy. If the engine control module or its related components encounters an issue, it can cause problems to the vehicle’s functionality. In the worst-case scenario, this may be detrimental for your car’s functionality, making it unsafe to operate. To do this, you would need to be quite conversant with the symptoms of a failing system. To curb this, you should always be alert while operating your vehicle and be on the look-out for any tell-tale signs of your car’s ill health. The following are the main symptoms that could point to a failing car computer. Sometimes, the car may even fail to start completely. This may be happening due to the failure of power reaching the car’s computer due to a blown a fuse or a wiring issue. However, if the entire module has failed, your vehicle will stall due to the lack of engine control. The check engine light turns on when the vehicle is switched on, but this is a simple test to ascertain that the bulb is functioning properly. It is not supposed to light again unless the car’s computer has detected some trouble with the vehicle’s circuit or failed sensors. An illuminated check engine light should be an issue when the computer fails to record a problem with its components. Therefore, if you notice the light constantly staying on, or being inconsistent in any way, it is probably a good time for you to check your car for any issues. The first rule is always to inspect your ECM whenever you detect a burning smell or notice visible burn marks. Heat and overload can easily cause problems with the computer and the rest of your vehicle’s components. This issue is unpredictable and varies in frequency and intensity. Your vehicle would experience decreased fuel economy and efficiency, and poor timing and acceleration. Consult your trusted mechanic to read these error codes and to eliminate other potential causes of an illuminated check engine light. In case of such a scenario, you would need to reset the car’s computer to erase the saved error codes. The reset should restore the ECM to its default settings and clear all car computer-related problems in your vehicles, such as computer codes or illuminated check engine light. The first option is to turn off the car’s battery to break the circuit and erase all memory. On the other hand, you can go about the computer reset procedure with the car battery still on and attached to the car. You can also prepare a 10-watt resistor. Remember to turn off your car before commencing. This will effectively break the circuit, thus, preventing the flow of power into the engine. This should drain the circuit of any residue current and cut the power from the car computer, thus clearing errors. Ensure to remove all rust, and rinse the battery after cleaning to clean off all the solution. The issue should be solved, and the error codes will no longer appear. Your check engine light will be working properly, and you’ll be good to go. The rest of this article will explain in detail how to go about the process. To begin, you will require a fuse puller and a code reader. You could also use a pair of pliers in place of the fuse pullers. Search for a cover detailing the car’s various fuses and their corresponding amperage. Once you have found it, you can follow the rest of our steps.Note that for this procedure, you will not have to disconnect the negative battery terminals. The problem with following the former process and disconnecting the battery terminals is that you erase your entire car’s memory. This not only solves the issue with the check engine light, but it also resets all other information in your vehicle, including the important data. You can drive for a few minutes to check if the issue of the check engine light has been solved. If the light stops illuminating, you are good to go. If available, maximize the built-in diagnostic services that report trouble codes. This will allow you to schedule a service appointment with your automaker. You can, therefore, follow them to solve issues with your car’s computer effectively. The high chances are that the resetting of the computer will solve whatever issue you may have and get you back safely on the road. However, in case of any doubt in the process, you’d better seek professional from an expert. That way, you can be sure that your car’s issues will be correctly diagnosed and configured. Do not opt to wait for the symptoms to subside automatically. This is because the vehicle could keep performing poorly and deteriorating into an unsafe state for you and others on the road. If addressed early enough, a faulty car computer would cause little to no problems in terms of safety, time, money, and other resources. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) learns” about your engine as you ride or drive your machine. However, Hyosung’s stock ECU neither stores codes after the ignition key is turned off nor does it have a memory for storing any mythical learning. It has a pre-programed set of parameters and based on the sensor inputs adjusts the fuel injector opening times accordingly. It will NOT learn anything but the base map settings can be reset if it’s necessary. The Myth The Reality Questions. The Myth There is quite a bit of mythology revolving around resetting the ECU. Many people mistakenly believe that they need to reset the ECU after installing major engine modifications or parts such as exhaust pipe. Resetting the ECU does not cause the ECU to learn engine changes any faster. The ECU is always tracking the gradual changes in the engine sensors and actuators. The ECU never gets satisfied with a setting, and is always updating the trim values. It will discover whatever change you made to your engine and make the appropriate changes when you’re riding. There are only two reasons why you would want to reset your ECU. One is to clear a CHECK ENGINE error code after fixing the problem that caused the error. The other is to reset the spark advance trim value. The advance trim controls how much the timing is retarded from what the factory engineers considered optimum. I’m not sure if this applies to a Hyosung machine but it was shared over a coffee session from my friend. Questions? I reset the ECU, and now the bike runs rough. Why? The engine may run rough or idle poorly right after ECU reset. You will need to ride your machine for quite sometime before the engine will settle down again. Note: I can’t stress enough, removing any battery terminal of a running engine is strictly prohibited. The moment such removal is made, damaging counter electromotive force will be applied to the ECU which may result in serious damage. On another note, never connect an ohmmeter to the ECU with its coupler connected. If attempted, damage to ECU or sensors may result. 3. Plug the ECU back to your bike, reconnect the wires to the battery terminal. It is also advisable to measure voltage using a voltmeter at each terminal.Terminal voltage check at low battery voltage will lead to erroneous diagnosis. Note: Battery connection in reverse polarity is strictly prohibited. Such a wrong connection will damage the components of the FI system instantly when reverse power is applied. 4. Turn ON your engine and leave it running idle for 15 minutes (Do not rev the throttle) 3. Once you’re done with the 15 minutes idle running, turn OFF the engine and leave it for another 10 minutes. 4.Finally, turn back the engine ON, ride your bike in a traffic for a day or two (If you plan to ride in traffic often) or Rev your bike on a highway in high RPM whenever you switch gears (If you plan to ride on long distance often) and eventually your bike will accustomed to the way you ride. However, when I rider it for a about 1 hour, it seems to be fine. So do you think still that you want to reset your ECU settings.Don't miss out! Like My Blog? Based on all you guys comments, I think better to take that car in to Agents and do only a ECU reset. When you go to the agents they will plug the ECU Scanner to your vehicles ECU Diagnosis socket. From the scanner they will analyst the ECU outputs (the scanner will get and convert errors and information codes which return from the ECU to human readable language).
