This main unit requires 12V DC and should only be installed in a vehicle with a 12V negative ground electrical system. Any other installation may cause a fire or ot her severe damage to the m ain unit an d the vehicle. ? Some main u nit uses batteries. Never install main unit where young child ren can get access to batteries. If a battery is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. ? When the vehicle is in motion, never t ake your eyes off the road to make adjustments to the main un it. As accident s may result if you are not paying attention to the forw ard direction, first sto p the car at a safe locati on and then proceed. ? Plastic bags and wrappings may cause suffocation and death. Keep away from babies and children. Never put bag over you r head or m outh. CAUTION ? When changi ng the installation location for this main unit, please co nsult the dealer where you bought it for safety reasons. Expertise i s necessary for removal and inst allation. ? When the player is subjected to severe v ibration while traveling over a rough surface, playback may be intermittent. In cold or rainy weather, just as the interior glass surface gets fogged, dew (water condensation) may also set tle on the deck. When this occurs, disc playba ck may become inter mittent or impossible. The disc slot tends to ge t dusty. Clean it occasionally to preven t accumulated dust from scratching the discs. TEXT When the vehicle has no ACC position on the ignition switch, care is needed when turning off the equipment. Follow S tep 2 or Step 3 when turning off t he power. The power wil l come ON. ATTENTION When t he eq uipment 's pow er is tu rned on for the first time or if the batter y terminals have been disc onnecte d beca use of vehicle m aint enance and the power is then turned back on, the equ ipmen t will sta rt up in FM1 mo de. The pow er will go OFF and the equipmen t will b e in S tandby. (U.S.A. onl y) CAUTION If the vehicle’s battery is disconnected (for repairs to the vehicle or for remo ving the receiver), all stati ons in memory will be lost.Manually setting st ations into memory This section covers the set ting of stations in memory under the numbered buttons. The tuned station is now memorized and set in the selected button. These buttons are called the preset buttons.The two sensitivity modes available for this equipment are LOC mode and DX mode. ATTENTION When an optional HD Radio tuner is connected, reception sensitivity is set t o the LOC Mode. The DX Mode is unavailable. (U.S.A. only) The mode switches between LOC mode and DX mode each time the buttons are pressed. The default setting is USA (North America). ATTENTION When an optional HD Radio tuner is connected, radio band location is set to USA. Other radio band locations a re unavailable. (U.S.A. only) The radio ba nd swit ches in the or der shown b elow eac h time th e buttons are pressed. LOC Mode During autom atic scann ing, the reception sensitivity switches automatica lly to one of two levels. Initially the reception sensitivity is set to the low le vel so that only stations with strong signals a re rece ived. If no st ations c ould be received, the receptio n sensitivity is increased so that stations with weaker sign als can a lso be received.Then install new batteries. The ESN i s a secu rity system which disables all the equipment functions when the power is restored if the equipment is stolen from the vehicle. Once the ESN is activa ted, removing power to the equipment or vehicle will activate the security feature. The front p anel opens; The CD4000 is now read y for your K e y CD in t he CD slot. The f ro nt panel clo ses.The front panel closes. How to resume normal operation (ESN se curity lock out) If power is disconn ected while ESN security is active (a Key C D was pr ogramed), operation is disabled until powe r is restored and the equipment unlocked. The process is as follows: Map data The map data used by t he deck was creat ed based on information prov ided by NA VTE Q (U.S.A. and CANADA). When using the m ap data, be aware of actual road c onditions and obey t raffic rules. A U ser R egistrat ion Key is r equir ed when r egister ing. For detai ls about User Re gistrati on Key, see page 57. (T o regist er, follow the i nstruction s provided by the website. Once you have register ed, the re is no need to repeat the pr ocedure.) Write the downlo aded inform ation to a CD-R. Set your start point and destination on the AREA SHOT page. Y our home can be registered as a memory point. ATTENTION If the battery terminals have been disconnected because of vehicle maintenance, the SVC settings will return to their def ault values. Loudne ss compensa tes for the apparen t weakn ess of low and hig h frequen cies at low volu me by b oosting the bass a nd treble levels.This equipment is equipped w ith three equalizer modes. Fu rthermore, the se t value in the audio control mode can be stored and is called as a CUSTOM mode set value. Each time t he button is pressed, t he selectio n changes in the followi ng order. The stored value can be recalled by switching the equalizer mode t o the CUSTOM mode.Crossove r The frequency band that is stored by audio media suc h as CDs is a fairly wide range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and it is difficult for a single speaker to be able to play back all frequencies in such a wide range. Because of t his, several speak ers can be used, with different frequency b ands (such as treble, medium and bass) allotted to e ach speaker so tha t wide frequency rang es can be played back. The crossover function includes a high-pass filt er (HPF) for playing back treble sounds, and a low- pass filter (LPF) for playing back bass sounds. In addition, the HPF and LPF are used in combination in order to play back sounds in the medium range. For exam ple, when adjusting the HPF, frequencies that are lower than the specified frequency ar e progressively dampened, rather than simply not bei ng played back at all. The larger the slope value, the greater the slope.In such cases, the crossover can be used to apply the HPF to the front and rear speakers and the LPF to the sub-woofer so that the sound from all speakers merges properly. In addition to the 4 s peaker system, the adjustments can be made to suit speaker system where the front speaker, r ear speaker and non-fader output can be switched between Hi, Mid or Low output and the spe akers can be combine d according to each range (treble range: tweeter, mid range: mid, bass range: woofer) to provide 3-way playback. In this case, the crossover function can be used to adjust the play back ranges so that the HPF is applied to the treble-range speakers, the HPF and LPF is appli ed to the Mid-range speakers, and the LPF is applied to the bass-range speakers so that t he sound from all speakers merges pr operly. Non-Fader phase The sounds that are output from woofers include sounds that are in the same frequency ranges that are output from the front and rear speakers, and under the various conditions that can occur insid e vehicle compartments, some of these sounds ma y cancel each other out. This phenomenon can be eliminated by changing the phase of the woofer.
