Screw the lid on the gas can and shake it to mix the engine oil and gas together. 2 Find the stationary handle on top of the motor near the chain bar and chain. Look for the chain-brake lever between the stationary handle and the chain bar and chain. Push the chain-brake lever away from the motor and toward the tip of the chain bar. The chain-brake lever stops the rotation of the chain around the chain bar. 3 Remove the fuel cap from the chainsaw engine. Fill the fuel tank with the 2-stroke engine oil and gas mixture. Replace the fuel cap and twist it clockwise to tighten it. 4 Remove the cap from the chain bar oil tank. Fill the oil tank with Echo bar and chain oil and replace the oil tank cap. 5 Place the Echo chainsaw on firm ground. Find the ignition switch at the rear of the motor to the left of the rear handle and throttle. Flip up the switch to place it in the “Run” position. 6 Look for the soft rubber purge pump bulb on the rear of the motor to the right of the rear handle. The choke's control knob is directly beneath the purge pump bulb. Use your thumb to press the rubber bulb toward the motor three or four times, or until you see a small amount of gas appear inside the bulb. Pull the choke control knob out from the motor. 7 Place one foot inside the chainsaw’s rear handle. Find the starter handle on the left side of the motor. Place one hand on the stationary handle as you quickly pull the starter handle from the motor. Continue to pull the starter handle three or four times or until you hear the motor attempt to start. 8 Push the choke control knob back into the motor. Reposition your hands on the chainsaw and quickly pull the starter handle once more to start the motor, and allow it to idle. Carefully lift the chainsaw with both hands and press and release the trigger in the rear handle to release the idle throat latch. 9 Restart a warm Echo chainsaw motor by pushing the chain-brake lever toward the tip of the chain bar. Flip the ignition switch to the “Run” position. Place the chainsaw on the ground and pull the starter handle. Immediately press and release the trigger once you hear the motor start idling.
