If the connector is not available connection to the rheostat can be made with spade terminals. There are a few rheostats that have the anticlockwise switch mechanically but no electrical contact is made, very odd! One is used to display the ambient temperature. The second sensor provides an optional remote temperature sensor which can be connected if required. If the controller location is not ideal, like on a cold outside wall or in a draft, a separate optional remote sensor may still be needed. See the remote sensor page for more information on remote temperature sensors and the wiring details. Green LED illuminated. Some faults including codes 15, 17, 50 lock the heater both for your safety and to protect the ECU. Always identify and remove the fault cause before unlocking. If a fault persists the heater is still faulty. It also occurs with the 801, 701 and mini controllers. Users confirmation would be appreciated. This method could be used with the other controllers. (Photos please) Photos Jim Warne. Re- apply power to the unit. The display will read n0, n1, n2, n3, n4 or n5, release both keys. A separate thermostat may control optional fan matrix heating. Some controllers do not have a temperature set control, these are for water heaters. They are not suitable for older models like D1L, D3L, D5L heaters. Most modern versions will work on both 12 and 24 volts. A few controllers have diagnostic facilities which can be extremely helpful for identifying the cause of problems. D1LC D3LC and D5LC diagnostics are compatible and have an additional light flashing facility. There are a number of different Eberspacher controllers so which one would we personally choose for a modern air or water heater? Check before you buy. Our users experience with this controller is with only a single installation and that has unsolved issues. We need more feedback on this controller. Eberspacher information on older controllers is not available so identifying those can be impossible. Some controllers are made by vehicle manufacturers. Except for a few models Eberspacher air heater controllers do not measure the ambient temperature, they just send a signal to the Eberspacher basically saying 'The control is set at this temperature’. The heater measures the actual air temperature at its air inlet and adjusts the heat output to match the user controller setting. If the heater is close by this can work ok but if it is farther away or in a locker the temperature there can be greatly different. It fails completely when the heater circulates fresh air. The sensor then thinks that the temperature of the outside air is the ambient temperature and of course that does not change as the heated area warms up. The solution to both of these is to fit a remote temperature sensor. Details and advice are on our sensor page. Typical use is a controller in the main area with an additional controller near the bed. Does not have diagnostics.Red LED illuminated. Adjust temperature with rotary knob. Press Fan button for ventilation mode. Press Off button to turn off. Eberspacher have! Join the red controller wire to the thin red loom wire and join the yellow controller wire to the yellow loom wire.Typical Ebay price ?120 April 2015. Ventilation mode may not work with Airtronic heaters. Ventilation mode may not work with Airtronic heaters. Model 701 00 006 with no diagnostics was fitted to BT vans and is quite often offered second hand on Ebay.http://dgsyhg.com/images/xinwen_nr/20190221_105421_195/20200913_040513_159.xml This had no battery fitted and subsequently I found an older manual circa 2000 that described battery backup at that time was optional. The 701 10 006 model is limited to 1 hour maximum. Any other model can also be used for water heaters, the temperature ramp will be ignored. Press the v button repeatedly to get minimum setting then hold it pressed until fan displayed.Times cannot be altered once timer has switched heater on. An updated list of fault codes is on the fault codes page. We recommend you make a permanent record of these codes before wiping them as the information can be valuable for diagnosis. Always identify and remove the fault cause before unlocking. If a fault persists the heater is still faulty. One major disadvantage is the temperature has to be set each time it is switched on. The 430 ohm variable resistor with the 1750 ohm fixed resistor set the target temperature. Eberspacher specification for the controller is it should adjust from 1750 to 2180 ohms. The dotted link between the switch and the control indicates that they are mechanically linked to the same knob. The LED and 1000 ohm resistor just give the green light indication. Levering at an angle will break the pegs as on right. One could be added if desired. If no short exists replace control unit. ADR is only used for vehicles carrying hazardous materials.A typical cause is disconnecting a plug after the heater has failed to start without turning off the switch on the controller. It can sometimes be erased by a diagnostic unit. Sometimes the code will not clear and a known fault needs to be introduced i.e. pull the fuel pump wires off and start the heater 5 times, this will move the fault to the end of the fault code memory and then it will be over written as the heater can only hold 5 faults. If that fails replace the ECU.Check alternator regulator or disconnect battery charger. Possibly 12 volt heater connected to 24 volt battery but this could damage the ecu.http://gbb.global/blog/boss-18-farad-capacitor-manual Usually occurs during starting when glowpin is on. Extremely common fault, usually due to a discharged battery but many other reasons described on our Low Voltage Faults page. The measurement method described in the Eberspacher Airtronic fault code list is almost useless, the heater must be connected and switched on so drawing current. Check heating air path for crushed pipes or blockages, air outlets closed or blocked. Often caused by accidentally puting objects against heating outlets. Check if air pipes are too long or have too many bends. (Just replacing a straight outlet hood with right angle version can often put the piping outside specification.) Check pumped fuel volume. Check Overheat sensor. Check blower fan as fault code 33. The heater can be reset from fault codes 012 and 013 by switching off and back on. Overheating is a serious safety issue and can damage the ECU so find and eliminate the cause before resetting. More info on our Faults Main page, mainly in the Faults when running section. Check as fault code 012. Check Flame sensor instead of overheat sensor. Check as fault code 012. Check both Flame sensor and Overheat sensor. On Hydronic water heaters the code is for 10 overheats in succession). More info in fault code 017. For remedial action see Fault code 012.The ECU is locked for safety reasons. The ECU failed to recognise overheating fault code 012 or 013. My explanation on why 017 occurs is on the Faults Main page. Heat may have damaged the ECU, if not it can be unlocked using appropriate equipment. IMPORTANT Identify and clear the cause of overheating before trying to reset. This lockout is for a very serious safety problem. More info on our Faults Main page. Check glowpin resistance, 0.42 to 0.7 ohms, 24v glowpin 1.2 to 1.9 ohms. Measuring accurately is not required for fault code 020. For fault code 021 use accurate measurement technique shown on Faults Main page and Airtronic Servicing page 2.https://jebeli.com/images/capitulos-de-manual-de-supervivencia-escolar-de-ned.pdfManual gives alternative method but few users will have a suitable high current 8v supply. Eberspacher advise that connecting to a 12v battery might destroy the glowpin but so far our users report they had no problem while doing a short duration test on 12v. Make sure leads include a fuse when testing for 021 code. Caution, glowpin will glow red hot if working ok. Check for water leaking inside heater and on connectors. Check glowpin resistance as in code 020. Check as code 020 Check as code 021 Energy input less than 2000 watts. Check as code 019 Check fan is free to rotate and not catching on anything. Check wiring for breaks, loose connections, faulty insulation. Check combustion air path, both inlet and exhaust, are not obstructed. Blower brushes or bearings worn. If testing motor on a dc supply use 6 or 8v, not 12v.(Measurement as described in D4WSC D5WSC manual is completely wrong) Check resistance of fan motor. Resistance should be approx 0.5 ohms, accuracy not critical for this test. Rotating shaft slowly by hand while checking may reveal faulty segments. If testing fan use 6 or 8v dc supply, not 12v. Check for water leaking inside heater and on connectors. Check motor is free to rotate and not catching on anything. Check bearings are not starting to seize. Check resistance of blower motor which should be approx 0.5 ohms. Use accurate measurement technique shown on Faults Main page and Airtronic Servicing page 2. Replace motor. If testing blower use 6 or 8v dc supply, not 12v. Check wiring to relay for breaks or loose connection. Check relay: Disconnect 8 pin connector, measure on the connector part not going to the ECU. Measure resistance between pins 2 and 3. Depending upon type of relay a good reading should typically be around 80 ohms. If greater than 1000 ohms check relay coil resistance or replace relay. Check wiring to relay for insulation damage or broken connection touching. Check for water leaking inside heater and on connectors. Check relay: Remove relay, if fault 038 displayed replace relay. Alternative method: Disconnect 8 pin connector, measure on the connector part not going to the ECU. Measure resistance between pins 2 and 3. Depending upon type of relay a good reading should typically be around 80 ohms. If lower than 20 ohms remove relay. Then if resistance becomes very high replace relay. Check resistance of the water pump, rotate shaft by hand while checking. Disconnect 14 pin connector, measure on the connector part not going to the ECU. Measure resistance between pins 10 and 11. No resistance figure is quoted but probably about 0.5 ohms. If trying pump on 12v battery without water keep test very short. Check for water leaking inside heater and on connectors. Check if pump is running dry. Vent heater, check header tank water level. Disconnect connection in water pump cable harness. If error code 041 is then shown replace water pump. Check for water leaking inside heater and on connectors. Most likely cause is mechanical damage to the insulation where cables are clipped in position or uninsulated connectors on older Eberspacher pump types touching the chassis. Check for water leaking inside heater and on connectors. Disconnect the wires on the pump connector and measure the resistance of the pump. If pump is ok check wiring to pump. Measure resistance from connector. If no test meter is available the pump can be pulsed with a 12 volt battery. Connect and disconnect from the battery, each time it should make a loud click. (Make sure the pump wiring is not connected before doing this test or you can destroy the ECU. Also take care not to accidentally short circuit the battery). More info Fuel 2 page. Check for water leaking inside heater and on connectors. ECU locked out. Hydronic - The ECU locks out after 10 consecutive start attempt failures. Manual is not clear, I think a failed start with the second start attempt counts as one failure. IMPORTANT Identify and clear the cause before trying to reset. This lockout is for your safety as each attempt leaves unburnt fuel. It can be unlocked with appropriate equipment. Check flame sensor: Disconnect 14 pin connector, measure on the connector part not going to the ECU. Measure resistance between pins 1 and 2. If reading greater than 1274 ohms replace sensor. Unit failed to start on both start attempt sequences. This is simply a standard failure to start fault indication. Most heaters checked will have this code in memory, usually it can be ignored as you will already know when it failed to start, it switched off without generating any heat. The causes are detailed in Faults Main page. Fault code is deleted if automatic restart is ok.Power stage naming is different for some heaters. Fault deletion and causes same as fault 053. Open heater slide valve. Check water flow rate. Check temperature sensor.Check temperature sensor. If heater then shows error code 061 check and replace sensor. If 060 still appears replace ECU. Check for water leaking inside heater and on connectors. Check temperature sensor. If not ok replace controller.Fault recognised only if it occurs in heating mode. If heater switched on with this fault ventilation mode is selected, (no fault code). Check Overheat sensor resistance as fault code 012.Check sensor wiring for breaks and damage Check Overheat sensor resistance as fault code 012. Check sensor wiring for damage. Replace ECU Check as code 099 Heater locked. This fault may damage the ECU. Check fuse and fuseholder, check battery terminals, check battery cables for damage. Check battery charger, especially Ctek chargers with too thin power output cables. Check battery condition. Leisure batteries, especially ones continuously float charged, can deteriorate with no other obvious signs unlike engine batteries which fail to start the engine so are quickly replaced. Simple voltage checks may still show ok even if battery is bad. Locate and clear cause before trying to reset, this fault may damage the ECU. Very convenient unlike the other sites, no pop-up windows or redundant pics. Nevertheless, I like this one more than others. Here I’ve already downloaded seven files, and there were no fails. David Lundy 2.0 out of 5 stars I read the entire thing on my pc before attempting to install. I did not like not having all the hardware. At least I knew the muffler didn’t come with the package. I did buy it separately and it came without the mounting bracket. The main unit is missing hose clamps for the exhaust and what looks like not enough exhaust pipe to add the muffler. Well, off to the Depot to see what I can round up.I still haven’t ordered the adapter kit for high altitudes but I will because I definitely want to stay warm at any time and location. When we ordered the Eberspacher Espar Airtronic D2, it was just over night and it was here ready to be installed. If you need a heater for an RV or van this is for you.! Thank you for a great quality product.Puts out an amazing amount of heat, sips fuel, and uses little power.Glad I bought itThey should note this when selling. I had our diesel mechanic install this and after the experience he vowed never to install this brand again. You have to build the plugs yourself and the wires don't match--it's a nightmare and the per-hour cost of installation makes this package no longer competitive with other brands.Great price and excellent shipping time.In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. On this unit the mains circuitry is on a separate board and is not used, no mains connection is needed. The timer output switches a relay for the 12v Eberspacher. If that make of timer is no longer available I have not investigated but I expect other digital mains timer types probably use broadly similar circuitry. It is simple to construct and components are readily available. The 430 ohm potentiometer and resistor set the target temperature. The dotted link between the switch and the control indicates that on the original rheostat they are mechanically linked to the same knob, not essential for the replacement. To an electronics engineer these values are non standard but can be easily solved with two extra resistors. Do not choose a preset type as it does not have a shaft for the knob. Alternatively use a 500 ohm version. Eg 10 of 500R potentiometers for ?1.50 post free, knobs various types 10 for ?0.99 post free. I was hoping just to slot the Easystart in place of the Mini. The problem is the Mini Timer only seems to utilize 3 wires - red, yellow and brown. However I can follow the wiring loom down from the Mini-Timer and see there is an unconnected blue and white wire (for diagnostics). So that gives a total of 4 wires. It tellsme to check the fuse, voltage supply or the wiring. The 10A blade fuse looks good to my eye. The voltage supply showed a proper 12 something volts. So what is wrong with the wiring. So I'm scratchin' my head. Any ideas? Attached are some pix. Page 18 of the manual and I assume it is an Airtronic and not a Hydronic. The yellow does not appear to be connected as the switching appears to be through the diagnostic wire. This is quite bizarre. You will find it at about 3.47 mins into the video.
