Their name is synonymous with string trimmers, but it was complete junk. My yard is small and I have very little trimming to do, and I'm not much for lawn care, so my use will be light duty and infrequent, but I wanted to give this product a good workout the first time to make sure it would last a good long time. The grass was tall, thick, and extra juicy on the inside. I was amazed that the Earthwise mowed down this tall grass as quickly as my lawnmower, which would have required three slow passes, and I think the Earthwise did a better job. The lawnmower tends to knock the grass over, but the Earthwise shredded it. When I first powered on the Earthwise, the pitch was much higher and I had an initial impression that the manufacturer might be trying to use a smaller motor that runs faster. Using it dispelled that notion. The fast rotation and the dual lines result in quick cuts. The manual recommended starting near the top of tall grass and working down. I'd have thought whacking it off at the base and slinging it back out of the way would be faster. I tried both techniques, and the manual was right. It's faster to start at the top and shred your way down. You also have fine grass mulch that looks nicer than long strands of cut grass. The string seemed to automatically advance as if by magic. I pretty much powered it on and cut for 20 minutes, so I don't think there is any need for turning it on and off to advance the line for cutting grass.http://www.speedski-cz.cz/userfiles/fckeditor/creative-labs-sound-blaster-manual.xml

Like any string trimmer, edging in close to hard objects like guy wires will cut the string, but the Earthwise quickly recovered when I repeatedly dug it into the dirt when edging my neglected sidewalk. I never needed to take anything apart or manually advance the line. I hope that magic mechanism continues to do its thing, but I think I'll buy one or two sets of spare parts for the cutting head, as that's always the part that takes the abuse. I plan on keeping this string trimmer a long time. I had some Swedish ivy that was about ten feet up a telephone pole. Some of the vines were a quarter inch in diameter, tough, and woody. I walked the Earthwise around the base of the pole and cut through all of the vines in about 20 seconds, making it easy to pull the cut vines off the pole. I finished the back yard after 20 minutes of hard and fast cutting and the motor wasn't even slightly warm. Impressive! This motor wasn't selected with intermittent use in mind, and the motor cooling ventilation was effective. The underside of the plastic cutting guard was caked with a one inch thick layer of very finely mulched uniform green goo, because the grass had such high water content. I unplugged the Earthwise and rinsed off the goo under the spigot, being careful to keep water out of the double insulated motor. No doubt the manual would advise against this, but I'm pretty sure I ran over some cat doodie somewhere and I didn't feel like scraping around in the green muck. I think it's made for shorter people. That necessitates a slight stooping over, which is more noticeable when cutting downhill, so I try to cut uphill. Like most electric trimmers, the motor is on the lower end of the shaft and that's not balanced for best ergonomics. I was starting to feel it in my lower back after 20 minutes of aggressive cutting, but that's beyond the normal use of this type of trimmer.http://kardelendalgicpompa.com/uploadfiles/creative-labs-sound-blaster-wireless-audio-transmitter-and-receiver-manual.xml If that's your mission, you should probably get a gasoline powered trimmer with the motor on the other end of a bent shaft and a shoulder harness to support most of the weight. About the only thing I don't like is the adjustable knuckle directly above the motor housing has some play in it. I don't like the way it feels, but I can't see that contributing to any failure. The rest of the design is nicely implemented, and the fit and function is good. The installation instructions could have been better (Chinglish translation) but I didn't have any trouble with the simple assembly. I think I got the newer design, because I didn't see any easy way to drop a screw into the motor as others had mentioned. Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2015 I purchased this trimmer on just the Amazon reviews, alone. My own opinion is the spool assembly is a horrible design. It is flimsy, it keeps loosing the tautness needed to keep the line from unwinding and tucking itself under the spool carrier. The first 5 minutes were okay, then the line loosened itself and got tangled, horribly tangled. This continuously happened after repeated rewinding. Strangely enough, I visited other websites that sold this trimmer and voila, they all had reviews that said almost the same thing in almost the same words. I urge all prospective buyers to read the negative reviews as well as the positive. Save yourself the grief of going what I went through. Then, you have to trigger it, let it come to a full stop for 3 seconds to let it set itself. It takes a while but it never failed to do what I bought it for, unlike this Earthwise piece of garbage. Yes, I gave it all the chances to prove itself, but it failed over and over. Apparently, I'm not the only one with this complaint. Please try again later. Standing straight with my arms straight the head of the trimmer is only two inches off the ground, perfect for doing the lawn. I mean weeds. I live in the desert and we get monster weeds in the yard, some with stalks as big around as saplings. This trimmer takes them down with little problem. The stock string does bind occasionally and causes the semi auto feed to not work which eventually means you have to take the head apart, unwind a few feet, rewind and hand feed again before you continue. In the desert sun, this really sucks, but it's on'y happened to me twice. I've since changed to a different string and haven't had any issues. The safety button is a nice feature although it can get tiresome holding it down when using. It does make left handed use interesting but it's not as difficult as I initially thought. I recommend wearing gloves since without them I always finish with blisters on my hands from the grips. The yard takes about an hour and a half to do front and back. I feel for the money spent it was worth every penny. Please try again later. Please try again later. R. Lin 5.0 out of 5 stars It was a good thing that the old trimmer broke because I didn't know how much I was missing. After reading all the reviews online, I ended up with the Earthwise trimmer. I agree with a lot of the reviewers. I like the power it has to cut through thick grass. I also like the semi-automatic line feeder rather than the fully automatic.http://cleanteclogistics.com/images/canon-speedlite-380ex-service-manual.pdf Automatic line feeders have tendency to waste trim line, this one doesn't have that problem. Every time the trimmer winds down, it feeds the line forward just by an inch. This is a very nice feature and good balance between fully automatic and bumping the trimmer head. I was able to trim my yard much faster than before because the line didn't break at all. Remember that the line is forwarded every time you stop, that feeds just enough line that I never had to stop to reset the line. Good trimmer and good price overallPlease try again later. The unit comes about 95 assembled with a spool of 10' of string. One person commented that it chews through the string. I didn't notice this. I did notice that the string requires some manual advancing from time to time. When you pull and release the trigger at low speed, there is a intertia type gear that advances the string about a quarter inch a time. Doing about 45 minutes of trimming and edging used about 4 feet of string. I found a 200' spool here on Amazon that will be more than sufficient. Out of the box, the only thing that you need to mess with is the shaft length and installing the black debris shield. It took maybe 5 minutes tops. The shaft itself is a bit short. The unit is fairly heavy to hold for any length of time. Unlike the gas models which have most of the weight close to the user, this one has almost all the weight at the head where the motor is. You'll get a pretty stiff arm workout using this thing and it gets tiresome holding it. Yes, you can get a more powerful and more portable gas trimmer. But unless you spend the money on an Echo or Stihl, the options are pretty dismal. You get a made in China 2 cycle junker that, from my own experience, will not last more than one or two seasons if it works at all. Read the reviews for them on Amazon. If you can find one rated better than 3 stars, you're in luck. Reliable and cheap, pick one. I went with the electric for a few reasons -- one is edging feature. No four cycle, and only a handful of the two cycle trimmers work as a edger. Two, the stench -- two cycle with its gas oil blend is oily, stinking filth. Three, the noise. And four, the convenience. One thing to consider is your total cost on this. You'll almost certainly need a 100' extension cord. If I can get 4 seasons of residential use out of it, I'll be happy. Please try again later. It is missing one of the metal eyelets that the strings threads through. The auto-cutter that clips the string, if it is too long, is also dull but functional. We have St Augustine grass which has lots of tough thick runners. We also have lots of Asian Jasmine(ground cover). The ST00015 does well on both. I use a heavier string(Titanium 0.08in). One spool lasts about 1.5 yard trimmings on our corner lot. Never had trouble with the auto-feed. I guess the trick there is to let it come almost to a full stop or nearly so in some tougher cutting so that the string slaps against something with resistance to let it play out. In the past I found spooled string trimers frustrating. One of my mickey-mouse techniques that seems to help is to use an inexpensive vegetable oil spray to grease the spool after I wind it. It still sticks sometimes but not very often. Some folks comment on it being heavy. I felt the same way(I'm an older guy but stay reasonably fit). Taking time to adjust the handle in a convenient position and letting the trimmer hang more in the vertical position rather than holding it out helps the back. The slot and hook on the handle to secure the cord in place helps. That's it. Functional for my application and has held together and going on my 4th season. Our cutting seasons usually go from about Mid-April to Thanksgiving. Please try again later. Please try again later. OneOleMan 5.0 out of 5 stars I got home this afternoon, the package was sitting on my back porch and 30 minutes later I was giving it a shakedown cruise which, IMO, was absolutely amazing. It cuts through long weeds almost like a knife cutting through warm butter. When I ordered the Earthwise I didn't realize it's a two string trimmer so for me it was a pleasant surprise. No wonder it cuts like a gas powered unit. I did pay attention to the complaint regarding the difficulty attaching the protective shield and perhaps because of that I had no problem whatsoever. I simply sat on one of the porch steps with the business end of the trimmer in my lap, the spool pointing to the sky and started the screws in one at a time. I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the instructions that came with the trimmer, (like many men I read the instructions only when all else fails), it is best to give each screw a couple of turns until all four have been started then go ahead and tighten each. The line will not advance until you stop the trimmer and, to be honest, I like this feature. Will this use a lot of string as some have mentioned. I heard it to reset and I was on my way again. Is this going to be a regular problem. I certainly hope not. The one thing that will take some practice for me will be using the Earthwise for edging my lawn. This is not a lightweight unit. The 9 pound motor at the business end can make it quite unwieldy if a person does not take a few minutes to make the proper adjustments. For me it took a couple of minutes to find the proper location for the handle. Once was done it was well balanced and easy to use. Please try again later. Please try again later. Kindle Customer 1.0 out of 5 stars I am very disappointed with it.perhaps disgusted would be a more accurate description. I have owned a number of gas, electric, and battery trimmers over the years and operated a number of different gas trimmers when I worked landscaping, and this one is, by far, the worst trimmer I have ever used. No amount of starting and stopping the trimmer helps. I cannot trim more than 8-10 feet without having to manually advance the line. Sometimes it actually takes longer to trim that it does to mow the entire yard. This thing is both aggravating and frustrating beyond belief. The factory installed string appeared to be of very poor quality and would not advance automatically. After it ran out I rewound the spool with a quality.065 line but it still broke easily and still would not auto advance. I've noticed that each time the line does advance (whether automatically or manually) it puts a small nick in the string that is barely visible but you can feel it. This causes the string to break more often than it should. Recently, I decided to rewind the spool with.080 line which seemed to work much better, but, as mentioned in another review, the channels in the spool are narrow which makes it extremely difficult to properly wind this size line. Even the.080 string still does not always advance properly, but it is much stronger and will trim a longer distance before it breaks. I have waited until now to write a review hoping that I might find a magic solution that I could share with all the other disgruntled owners on here, but no such luck. I doubt there is a viable workaround to compensate for what appears to be a basic design flaw. It might have been better if the manufacturer had used a wider spool with only one large diameter string line instead of a narrow, two-channel spool with two smaller strings. This trimmer certainly has more than enough power to handle a thicker.080 diameter line. All in all, I absolutely detest this thing; it was a complete waste of money and continues to be a complete waste of time because I have to constantly advance the line by hand. If it weren't for the line feed problem, as so many of these reviews have already pointed out, this would be a great trimmer. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this trimmer to anyone. I hate to give up on a challenge, but I have definitely waited too long to replace this thing. I am actively shopping for a different trimmer and cannot wait for the glorious day when I finally get to throw this one in the trash! Please try again later. Please try again later. Alyeska NC 5.0 out of 5 stars Used it yesterday and this a.m., and it does everything I needed it to do and more. It's quite powerful for an electric trimmer and has a smart autofeed design for the string - it only advances the string 1 inch at time, so you avoid the frustrating autofeed on other electric trimmers that spews out string willy-nilly and jams itself up. I bought this trimmer as, being a woman and relatively short, gas-powered trimmers are too long and too heavy, not to mention the difficulty of starting them up and the mess of dealing with an oil-gas mixture. Having the cord follow you around isn't an issue for me, though others may have to get used to it. It's powerful enough (6.25 amps) to easily handle a 100 ft. cord. (The instructions recommend up to 90 ft, but who has a 90 ft.Another feature I like is the safety switch on this model; no accidentally turning it on while clearing clippings or adjusting it. Directions were easy and, I'm glad to say, give clear instruction for winding your own spools from bulk line. After reading another reviewer's experience with attaching the shield, I was careful attaching it, so as not to lose any screws in the motor housing. It is much easier to attach the shield if you remove the spool cap and thread spool, though the directions don't tell you to do this. The shield itself is large and gives good protection. This is the only assembly necessary. Cons? It is a bit heavy; this is not a trimmer for someone looking for an ultra-light tool. It's not nearly as heavy as a gas trimmer, and it doesn't shake your arms til you can't use them (which happens to me when I use the gas trimmer). It's a bit loud for an electric trimmer with a distinct whine; it would probably be smart to wear ear protection if you plan on using it for an extended period of time. It shipped direct from Amazon and the packaging did not arrive in good condition. Amazon DID NOT box this; the trimmer arrived in its original packaging, with just a shipping label slapped on it, which is not designed for shipping via the usual carriers (UPS, FedEx, Postal). It shipped from Harriburg, PA, which was flooding at the time (Hurricane Irene); it arrived soaked at the motor housing end and overtaped to keep it together. The opposite end was opened and poorly retaped. Amazon can certainly do better in this respect. The motor housing was bagged and therefore did not sustain any water damage. That's thanks to the manufacturer, not Amazon. As yet, I have not used this trimmer as an edger. I expect it would perform about the same as other trimmers in this function. Please try again later. I purchased this trimmer for main lawn duty and Earthwise CST00012 18-Volt 12-Inch Cordless String Trimmer for roadside trimming and small tidying jobs. I'm overall impressed by this trimmer, I bought it to do the duty of the Stihl FS130, It does a great job as a replacement. The motor is quite powerful and cuts through tough grass, small green stemmed shrubs with ease. It does take some time getting adjusted to using it, most of the weight is on the front and you have to put more effort to pivot on the handle to get the swing. However I get instant power when I turn on this trimmer without having to deal with gas fumes and straining myself with the pull string with the gas trimmer. It was always going to be a compromise going green, however this is for me the most sensible compromise as there are too many pluses to be ignored. Please try again later. Please try again later. It's not that difficult, but it is a bit much to have to do 100 times to finish a big job. Although, because it was very hot out, it did force me to take breaks and rehydrate, but was very time consuming. The white plastic piece that goes over the line, (to keep the line from coming off of the spool), is about the quality of a plastic milk jug, and it's ripping the holes out of shape. This needs to be heavier plastic, like the rest of the machine or metal, and may actually be why it's not feeding properly. (IDK) If it fed the line like it was supposed to, I would have given it 5 stars. But I will probably have to return it, and still not have a weed eater.I have a pretty small yard so I didn’t want to invest in anything too heavy duty - I was surprised that this little weed eater was tougher and much more powerful than I expected. You do need an extension cord to use it, which is a bit of a pain, but otherwise it’s super convenient and easy to use. I love that it has a push button to start and doesn’t require a rip cord. It’d lightweight and easy to manuever (impoverished never used a weed eater before purchasing this one) and has some really nice safety features. My neighbor is fascinated by this thing, haha. Knocking off 1 star because you have to hold down the push button the whole time you’re using the weed eater which can be difficult if you have a large swatch of unruly grass to get through. Also, I have to wrap my extension cord around the handle a certain way or else it unplugs itself constantly. It did the job until May 2019. When I replaced the trimmer line for the first time the spring that keeps the trimmer string locked came out. This spring wouldn't go back into position to do its job, rendering the entire trimmer useless. The trimmer was still under warranty. They sent me a replacement spring but no instructions on how to disassemble the trimmer to install the spring. They haven't responded to any of my requests for instructions. The trimmer was used less than a dozen times before breaking. It was not abused or used for anything except trimming grass and weeds in a residential yard. Avoid this product, don't waste your money like I did.Now I have two. Great trimmer for my 68 year old wife who could not get the gas one started. Also have corded mower and tiller, all three work great. The problem I have been told is the string lets go quickly or it did on the first use. I felt bad about it, as I said I gave it as a gift. I went back and I have ordered the recommended replacement spool of string for it and I'm waiting to hear back how it works out. The instructions to replace the spool is not the greatest, it is hard to tell if you're getting the right one or not.For small jobs, you can’t beat the price. I did have to pull the string after pushing down on it, but for how I use it, it’s a minor hassle. Additionally, you can use cheap harbor freight extension cords with this because it’s low amperage. The good, its light very light.easy to use, mechanically simple, not many moving parts. Easy to restring when you run out of string, and easy to bump feed new line. Oh did I mention lightweight. The bad, not really much to say here, a nice simple tool.its not very powerful, but it does get the job done. Bottom line, it's not a professional piece of equipment, but its sufficient for the home owner who will use it weekly and doesn't want to maintain it.He has a gas-powered one that gives him trouble from time to time, but he likes to use it for areas that are bigger and further from electricity. This electric one works just fine for projects right around the house. This item is perfect if you enjoy free yoga due to the fact that every 10 second the spook messes up and you have to respool it and refeed the line. I have used it 3 times and am completely out of the line. The last time I used it I chucked it. Not worth buying more line for it. The money you will spend replacing line makes it more efficient to just buy a better tool. Please upgrade your browser or activate Google Chrome Frame to improve your experience. TheElectric Trimmers are very low maintenance. They typically have smallerTrimmers, and Weed Wackers. Depressing the throttle trigger on a weed trimmer powers the trimmer head to turn through a cable in the trimmer shaft. Trimmers require a replacement head when the threads strip due to use of heavier line than recommended or heavy usage. Replacing a trimmer head is similar on gasoline and electric trimmers. Turn your weed trimmer off and allow it to cool completely. Disconnect the power cord from an electric model or disconnect the spark plug boot from a gas model. Wipe off the trimmer head with a shop towel to remove grass clippings and debris. Remove the bump knob on the bottom of the trimmer head. Depending on your make and model of trimmer, it will turn counterclockwise, have tabs to press in and pull it straight off, or remove by pressing in the tabs and turning it. Pull the trimmer line spool out of the trimmer head. Observe your trimmer head to see if it has a small hole in the inner and outer portions. If so, insert a small Phillips screwdriver into the two holes to hold it in position, remove the center nut with an adjustable wrench and pull the head off. Pry the trimmer head off a trimmer without holes in the head with a flathead screwdriver to loosen it. Pull the old trimmer head off the nut on the bottom of the shaft. Insert a replacement head on the trimmer shaft. Block the holes with a small Phillips screwdriver and replace the center nut with an adjustable wrench on models that have an exterior nut. Insert the two loose ends of the trimmer line spool through the eyes on the exterior of the trimmer head. Refasten the bottom bump knob onto the head.
