It allows full control of the shifting function of your transmission and works like a manual valve body without the shifter itself. You just put the transmission lever in drive like normal then switch the box to manual mode and you are ready to go. It is used for drag racing and sled pulling ONLY.Most users start in 2nd gear then lock the converter and go to drive. At the end of the track you can then unlock the converter if you want for those few extra feet while keeping the charger lit. After the pull simply reset the switches and put it in “PCM” mode and drive off. No more waiting on the trans to shift and hanging gears between shifts. Comes with full picture instructions and weather pack connectors to insure a good connection. We designed this box ourselves so if you have install questions just ask. We also offer a full one year warranty on the box.http://giankhonggian.com/uploads/userfiles/craftsman-53681b-manual.xml

The FORD E40D automatic transmission is a four speed unit with total electronic shift control and is designed for operation in longitudinal powertrains for rear wheel drive applications. The E40D is currently found in “F” Series Trucks and “E” Series Vans. The hydraulic control systems of the E40D transmission has five electronically controlled solenoids for: Shift feel (through line pressure control). Shift scheduling (through shift valve position control).ATSG also has available an “Update Handbook” which includes the many changes and is required along with this manual for a proper overhaul or repair. We'll assume you're ok with this, but you can opt-out if you wish. Ford used the E40D in vehicles made in model years 1989 through 1997. Gear Ratios The E40D has a first gear of 2.71 to 1, second gear ratio of 1.54 to 1, third gear ratio of 1.00 to 1 and fourth gear ratio of 0.71 to 1. EEC-IV Computer System The E40D was Ford's first electronically controlled automatic in light trucks. Ford claimed 25 percent better fuel economy in the 1991 F-150 two-wheel-drive pickup with the E40D transmission versus the 1990 F-150 with the older C-6 transmission. Identifying the Ford E4OD E-series vans and F-series trucks with the E40D from model years 1989 through 1993 have a shifter pattern of P-R-N-OD-2-1. These models also have an overdrive cancel switch. In 1994, Ford introduced the 4R70W transmission, which uses the same shifter pattern, making it ineffective to examine the shifter to determine which transmission the vehicle has. All 4.2-liter and 4.6-liter, and some 5-liter, Ford engines use the newer 4R70W. Diesel vehicles and those with 4.9-, 5.4-, 5.8-, 6.8- and 7.5-liter engines have the E4OD. For an alternate way to determine a truck's transmission, measure the transmission fluid pan. The E40D pan measures approximately 20 inches in overall length, whereas the 4R70W transmission has a length of about 15 inches.http://www.recykla-glas.cz/media/images/upload/craftsman-536-snowblower-manual.xml Aftermarket Modifications Components you can replace with upgraded aftermarket parts include the computer, torque converter, sprags, clutch piston, front pump, sun gear, rear case bushings, pressure regulator, reverse boost valve and center support. You can also add auxiliary oil coolers to ensure greater reliability. To submit your questions or ideas, or to simply learn more about It Still Works, contact us. D-161-110 Produces smooth, firm, light-throttle shifts and solid, decisive heavy-load shifts. Eliminates excessive clutch slippage. TransCommand is an automatic-transmission-management computer that delivers functions that no single module can. The E4ODs and 4R100s - used in full-sized Ford trucks and vans since 1989 - have soft, car-like shift characteristics.http://jochenschild.com/images/canon-powershot-a640-manuale-italiano.pdf Many truck owners prefer firmer shifts, especially when hauling large loads. TransCommand is the quick, efficient cure. The electronic module senses the load and commands the transmission to raise the hydraulic pressure accordingly. Light-throttle shifts are smooth and firm, while full-throttle or heavy-load driving produces solid, decisive shifts. Excessive clutch slippage is eliminated, extending transmission life. And while we will be building a new fuel-injected engine in the near future to help meet that goal, the first step in our attempt at getting better mileage was the installation of an E4OD overdrive automatic transmission from Gearstar Performance Transmissions The truck's original C6 had been rebuilt, equipped with a shift kit and heavy-duty components. The Ford's shortcoming was the 3.78:1 rear gears, which meant the 460 spins three-grand plus at highway speeds. What's desperately needed is another gear and for that, there are basically three choices--converting to a manual trans with overdrive, adding an auxiliary overdrive unit to the existing transmission, or installing a contemporary overdrive automatic. We ruled out the first option because of the difficulty and expense, plus we like the convenience of an automatic. And even though adding an auxiliary overdrive would provide taller gearing, the issue then becomes the torque converter. The reason lockup converters were added to contemporary overdrive automatics is that the increased load from the higher effective gear ratio causes the converter to slip. That not only reduces the gains made by the higher gear ratio in Fourth but also produces transmission-cooking heat, which dramatically shortens its life expectancy. The cure for this was the introduction of the lockup torque converter. However, while slippage is eliminated, in many cases the torque capacity of the clutch pack in the converter is limited--as a result converter failures in trucks that are subjected to heavy loads and towing duty are a concern. Fortunately, Gearstar has addressed these issues by building their own torque converters. With additional heavy-duty clutch packs and premium internals, Gearstar's triple-disc lockup converter has three times more capacity than stock. Confident that there was a lockup converter that would do the job, the next step was to figure out which transmission to couple it to. Not surprisingly, there are a number of choices--Gearstar has adapters that allow the use of GM overdrives, the 700-R4, 4L60E and 4L80E are good candidates for an overdrive auto swap. Ford's AOD and AODE are also viable choices. Of course, the best bet is to talk to the experts at Gearstar and let them tailor a transmission to your particular needs. In our case, we chose the E4OD. For comparison, here are the gear ratios of the C6 and popular overdrive automatics: Ford Introduced in 1989, it was Ford's first fully electronic transmission. The E4OD is a large transmission so it's not a great candidate for all swaps; it's 4-inches longer than a C6 and considerably larger in diameter with a big pan. An unusual feature of the E4OD is the shifter pattern, which is P-R-N-OD-2-1. In the (D) range, the transmission shifts through all four gears. A lockout button disables Overdrive operation allowing the transmission to shift through the first three gears only. Selecting 2 allows the transmission to shift from First to Second and holds it there, while 1 holds the trans in First. See all 22 photos As with all their transmissions, Gearstar makes modifications to the E4OD based on the application, and for heavy-duty towing, there's a long list of improvements. The point is, this is one tough transmission that will get the job done for a long, long time. When it came time to plug the E4OD in place of the C6, there was some good news and some bad. The good news is this is the only Ford overdrive automatic that will bolt directly to big-block (385-series) engines; the torque converter fits the original flexplate, and the output shaft is the same diameter and spline count as the C6, so the driveshaft yoke fits. Now the bad news--this trans is four inches longer. In this installment of the Hot Rod Hauler, we're going to show you what it takes to make the transmission swap. Next month we'll take an in-depth look at the electronics required to make the new breeds of overdrive automatics shift for themselves. CCT See all 22 photos When installing any automatic transmission there should be some space between the flexplate and the torque converter with the bellhousing tight against the block. That indicates the converter is properly seated in the pump. Once that is determined, the converter nuts can be installed and tightened.SIGN UP Hot Reads E-Turbo Revolution: Electric Turbos Get Real. Disco-Era Cars Found in SoCal Junkyard. Based on core components of the C6, this transmission was used in many light and heavy duty vehicles including the Bronco, F-150, F-250, and F-350. While physically too large for use in most passenger cars, these transmissions are popular upgrades for older trucks and larger vehicles that were originally equipped with a 3 speed automatic. With the addition of an overdrive, increased fuel economy and a better driving experience can be had by choosing one of these units for your project. This transmission is also very robust, with power and torque handling capabilities (especially when upgraded) that make it a popular choice for diesel enthusiasts. The E4OD was produced in several different bolt patterns, which also makes it popular for a swap or upgrade. These include small block, big block (385 series, not FE), diesel, and modular bolt patterns. While almost identical on the exterior, not all parts are interchangeable between these two units, so care must be exercised to insure compatibility. Unlike the E4OD, these units have a dedicated output shaft speed sensor located towards the rear of the transmission. A PWM (pulse-width modulated) torque converter clutch solenoid was also added, first to 4R100s in diesel applications and later to all 4R100s. In 1992, Ford started using the differential speed sensor to run the electronic speedometer in trucks and omitted the drive gear from the output shaft. Transmissions without the gear can have the output shaft changed, but complete transmission disassembly is required since the output shaft is in the back and the transmission disassembles from the front. It was determined to be inadequately weather-proof, allowing water to enter the connector and corrode the pins, causing electrical problems. It is always recommended that this sensor be replaced with an updated 1995 or newer style, if it has not been already. Relevant discussion may be found on the talk page. Please help improve this article by introducing citations to additional sources.Compared to its predecessor MX transmission, the C6 offered lower weight, less complexity, less parasitic power loss, and greater torque capacity for larger engines. It did this without exceeding the packaging dimensions of the MX. These design goals were in line with those of the C4 for smaller engines. To aid in shift quality and long term durability, it was the first automatic transmission designed to use the Borg-Warner flexible shift band.Five different bell housing varieties exist for use with various Ford engine families: It is also widely used in off-road applications due to its reputation of being nearly indestructible. It does, however, have a reputation of greatly reducing performance as well as fuel mileage, due to the amount of power it requires to operate. The E4OD was introduced in 1989 and used in both light and heavy duty applications. The E4OD has four forward speeds and electronic shift controls replacing the hydraulic governor control mechanism of the C6. It was largely the same as the E4OD, but with some changes to internal components to address durability concerns when put behind the ever increasingly powerful Powerstroke Diesel Engine. In 1999 it was fitted with a PTO for auxiliary equipment attached to heavy duty trucks. To follow Ford's new naming schemes for its other transmissions, Ford renamed the E4OD the 4R100. MOTORTREND.COM The bottom line is the truck's driveline is nothing without a dependable transmission. Our '95 F-350 dualie is powered by the venerable 7.3L Power Stroke diesel powerplant, and thanks to a great maintenance regimen that includes regular oil changes and other truck-care services every 5,000 miles, the engine is as strong as ever with 90,000 miles showing on the odometer. While 90K is considered low mileage by many diesel fans, the same cannot be said about other parts of the drivetrain, especially the E4OD four-speed automatic transmission. This four-speed, overdrive first came on the scene back in 1989 as the successor to the truck-minded C6 three-speed automatic. Despite having overdrive (an answer to the cry for better fuel economy), the E4OD left a lot on the table in terms of shift quality, overall performance, and durability, which are the three main criteria that have raised our concerns about the transmission. However, in a workhorse like the F-350, which spends the majority of its road time hauling heavy payloads or towing a (usually) loaded, enclosed race car hauler, the factory E4OD doesn't have nearly the same performance lifespan as transmissions found in comparable vehicles from other manufacturers. Prior to getting started with the swap, Dave Rangel connected a gauge to measure line pressure and took the truck for a road test to see exactly how the unit was doing. We also noticed during the road test that the soft-throttle shift points were lower, but not too far from normal. That being the case, we admit that we put up blinders to any real problems. We were diligent about the service routine and assumed the low-miles gearbox was theoretically in the same good shape as the engine. It was wishful thinking on our part. Stock '94-'95 E4ODs like ours don't have the type of low-rev line pressure needed for performing well under severe-duty conditions. The MaXimizer E4OD features several different components that help make it the true, heavy-duty gearbox for any truck that sees regular towing duty.E4OD transmissions are controlled by the PCM, so despite the improvement in valvebody operation, the transmission's shift points won't change unless modifications are made in the processor. With our truck's stock 7.3L turbodiesel, the converter's flash stall is around 1,300 rpm-a 30 percent reduction, as the stock converter stalls at 1,800-2,000 rpm. This helps keep heat to a minimum and increases the longevity of the transmission unit. The test shows that line pressure in our new MaXimizer E40D is well within TCI's accepted pressure ranges for this transmission, a major improvement over the numbers we logged in our initial road test.As we mentioned earlier, heat is one of the biggest killers of any automatic transmission. The new transmission allows our BD exhaust brake to work much better when compared to its performance with the original tranny. It is the MaXimizer E4OD's definitive downshifts on deceleration that make all the difference. Everything looked OK by us, and the transmission fluid was still blood red. They will definitely help keep the tranny cooler, which will enhance its performance and extend its life. Additionally, it was used in the 97-98 Ford Expedition, 90-96 Ford Bronco, and 89-98 Ford E series. The E4OD is based on the original C6 design with the addition of computer controls, an overdrive gear, and other minor changes. Many of the components from a E4OD, including the planetary gear sets, are interchangeable with the C6. Like the C6, the E4OD is recognized for its strength and reliability. As a result of widespread aftermarket support, the E4OD can be built to handle a tremendous amount of power. It was replaced by the 4R100, which shares many similarities to the E4OD but was designed to keep up with the growing demand of the Power Stroke diesel's torque. E4OD transmissions found behind the 5.8L (351W) and 7.5L (460 cid) V-8s are significantly stronger than 4.9L I-6 (300 cid) and 5.0L V-8 (302 cid) engines as a result of an additional clutch element in the forward and direct clutch assemblies. Services - 4 - 0 - 1 -Select - RF Outlets (Don't forget to save any changes and retune any other TV's connected) I haven't checked all the way through the guide listings, so is it possible the two channels have moved. I am still receiving the other ITV AND C4 channels. If they have moved to another position, how do I change it back to where I want it? But first do a rescan without the aerial connected to completely clear the tuner of all data then do another rescan with the aerial connected. Maybe this will restore your two missing freeview channels. I don't depend on freeview (have sky) but now that I know they aren't there it annoys me. Retune on boxes downstairs was fine but upstairs on my Hauppage PC tuner card it missed some channels including ITV, C4. Turned out it was dodgy coax connections. I am in weak area, need a 1 way booster to feed a 4 way booster. But first do a rescan without the aerial connected to completely clear the tuner of all data then do another rescan with the aerial connected. Maybe this will restore your two missing freeview channels.Did the rescan as above, but everything still the same. The freeview box in the bedroom hasn't been rescanned for a while and all the channels are there from the same aerial. Very strange that just over a week ago all the channels were there. Thanks for your help anyway.is there a way I could manually tune them in? Did the rescan as above, but everything still the same. Thanks for your help anyway.is there a way I could manually tune them in?You need to know which transmitter you are receiving from in order to select the channels for manual tune. You say your STB still has all the freeview channels. Does it still have them after a rescan. Can you test your TV at this location (same aerial point) if the STB still finds all channels. Process of elimination should find out where the fault lies. Phoned a local aerial guy and he said they are doing stuff to transmitter for changeover, so that could be why.
