I like that if I hear something at night, I can pull up the app on my cell phone from bed and look around the inside and outside of the house. I find it incredible that 4 of the cameras failed (they produce a pinkish hue resolution) just after the warranty was up. And these cameras were generally in shaded places where they were not directly exposed to most elements of weather. The price of replacement cameras is more than I paid for the entire system. Even easier to set up than systems without Stratus. Cameras are all interchangeable with older systems. Tech support was so incredible when i did have questions setting up. The screws that came with the camera's for mounting were cheap, so I had used sturdier screws. Remote connectivity by a mobile device was quick and easy. I didn't use the supplied cables and ended up using Cat5e for the video and power. I hate how you cannot access full settings from the pc and has to be done from the device itself. This system along with the PTZ 10x pan tilt camera (purchased separately) have provided excellent video surveillance of my farm house in rural Kentucky. Since I do not live there full time, these Lorex products have been a vital component in the overall security of my home. My research started over a year ago when I began evaluating video monitoring and surveillance systems. As mentioned in previous reviews, Lorex came out ahead of the competition with regards to numerous affordable products. The setup and installation process was conducted by my home builder without any issues. Several months after installation, I had to contact technical support (several times) to resolve connection issues. The problem was resolved after resetting the DVR to the factory default. Now nearly a year after 11 months of continuous use, two of my seven cameras are now NOT WORKING properly. The problem is that there is a purple hue engulfing the image. The IR image is fine. The technical support team varies greatly with whom you speak to. The individual I spoke to yesterday seemed to have less working knowledge of the system and reported image problems than me. He did not know where to start in resolving the problem - IE adjusting the Hue, Contrast, Brightness, or Saturation. (Adjustments did not reduce purple hue in image)All he could tell me (after being placed on hold a couple of times) is that I needed to be at the location to power down the cameras and switch leads on the DVR. In other words I will need to call Tech Support yet another time to trouble shoot this problem before they could begin a RMA authorization. (I had to return my PTZ camera earlier this year as well - It has worked fine since it was installed) I sincerely hope that I will be able to resolve this issue or having these cameras replaced by the end of the week.Lorex came out first way ahead of the competition. The first guy in tech support totally missed the line for brains, the second guy on call back was great. Following his instructions I could not get thru to customer no service on call back. On the last call of waiting for someone to answer in customer no service my phone battery died after 2 hours of waiting. Never again, they just treat the customer like trash!! No I have a problem with 7 ports and the Lorex tech's are helping me solve the problem. Excellent response. I'm looking forward for my system to be up and running soon. My warranty will help if my system needs to be replaced. And they will replace it if needed. The ONLY trouble I have had with the hardware is with a couple of the cameras.I successfully exchanged one within the warranty limit. The 2nd I'm stuck with because I don't have the funds to purchase a new one. The other problem I had was with the cellphone application. This is for use while I am away from my home. I have two sets of Device Manager settings I keep on a memo pad on my phone - 1 for while I'm home and the other for when I'm away. A while ago a tech helped me set up viewing my cameras on my lap top, also for both away and home. All in all I am super happy with my 8-camera system. At home I can view it on my TV and the friend who set up the system also connected a small 2nd monitor that is right next to my big screen TV in my bedroom - this way I can watch TV and still view my cameras at the same time. Oh, I am not exactly happy that if I want to exchange a camera, Lorex will not send the new one until they receive the old one; though one way around this is to pay for the new one and then wait to be credited when they receive the old one (this, is of course within the 1 year warranty). If I knew there was an extended warranty option I would have purchased it, that is why I am writing this review (supposedly I might get an extended warranty if I write this). When I purchased the system, Costco didn't offer one. And when I registered my system with Lorex I was not told about it either. I recommend it. I would also recommend getting a wireless system, now that I know they are available. Bottom line I have on several occasions recommended Lorex to friends and I will continue to do so! Easy to install. Easy to configure.Into my second year and no problems. Just configured iphone access in about 5 minutes.Remote viewing with the Android app is excellent and I am currently looking into the DDNS service. Also called tech support they where very helpful. Had it for 4 years but was never able to connect to the Internet. Too technical. With th Lorex unit it was so easy to set up and I was connected in minutes including my iPhone, ipad, pc, and galaxy s5. Now my son going to buy one for his system. I would recommend this product to anyone because of the ease to install. Still have not gotten the email portion to work. We have had many problems with this system. We've had it for 18 months now and have already had 3 cameras go bad, the DVR didn't work properly until I spent an hour on hold and an hour on the phone with Lorex tech support, but finally it now works. Prior to that. It would record sporadically. I tried to use the motion recording, however whenever a car would drive down the street at night, their headlights would set it off, even though the car was not in the view of the camera, then of course if you have it set for alarm it would beep almost constantly. Turned off the alarm, but it still clicked, that was annoying too. Set-up and installation were fairly easy, and I do appreciate the fact that I can view on my phone, that has seemed to work just fine. The hardware that is included to mount the cameras is junk, we spent the extra few dollars to get quality screws. We did get one camera replaced with the warranty, but you have to mail the camera to them in order to get a replacement, and got had to pay the shipping charges. From the time I got the cameras hooked up to the DVR, it took about 5 minutes to see great pictures on all 8 cameras. I do agree that full setup takes several hours as the instructions for quick setup don't actually get your cameras recording and don't explain the multitude of menus and choices. However, once I got the manual from online and experimented, I was able to easily perform the settings. A little more info on sensitivity settings, etc would be appreciated. The remote computer and IPhone setup were very easy and worked perfectly. The views overall have a nice range, and are crisp and clean. Resolution close to the cameras is great. So far, no real issues except that I haven't been able to get the auto email function to work. I have not had them running long and have not tried any support yet, so I cannot comment. I also bought through Costco. However, I only gave it four stars due to the setup and instructions in the User Manual. I finally figured it out, after several hours of trial and error, but the setup is quite complex. I am not stupid and have set up computers and other technical equipment in the past, but this is a bit more complex than most. Maybe because it is something I haven't had experience in and we are doing it all ourselves.It works beautifully.I would highly recommend this product Out of the box, the unit feels hefty and quality built. Installation is very straight forward and easy to follow. Image quality is superb and connecting via Stratus is a no brainer. I would definitely recommend Lorex products to family and friends. Camera image is OK. The eventual after purchase of better cameras is recommended. Fortunately, once you finally get through to customer service, they do honor the warranty. As a homeowner do-it-yourself project it is straight forward with very good technical support. I'm surprised that more people haven't indicated how difficult it is to make contact with the staff. It can't just be me, They need more phone staff at certain times of day without a doubt. Hooked up the Wireless cameras, the monitor, downloaded the mobile app and the system was up and running without a hitch. Great so far! Hoping that it is as reliable as it is easy to install. Had a problem at about 9 months old but was taken care of as a warranty issue by the Lorex support staff. Great user friendly product. The installation is hard wire so it took a subcontractor to install it.So far, it's a lot clearer than the Eco 2, and the Digital Noise at night is non existent. Better night vision. Only problem I experienced was a broken camera when I opened the box. Had to call Tech Support for setting up email motion notification which became more complicated due to issues with servers. Overall, customer service has gotten better. Remember to wait 10 to 30 minute for the device ID to register on the Lorex servers otherwise it can be frustrating to connect. Also this is not an HD system so don't expect ultra clear images. Lastly, if you need support they are very helpful if you call in; the online tickets do not seem to be worked very fast. Lastly I had to use browser compatibility mode to view the cameras without the client app. Installed in about 3 months later. I like having the system as 8 cameras cover almost all angles of my house. The night settings are nice and the ability to make some areas private.aka camera blocks those areas out. Motion sensing seems to work pretty well and is able to made to cover a custom area. (You can eliminate the sensing of cars as they go by in the street. I will at some point but just no time yet. I have had some issues with recording and searching that I have to contact the company about. I plan on installing a solid state hard drive to ensure the longevity of the recording system. All in all I would buy it again. But since this model has been updated at my local Costco i would definitely go with that newer model. It was right out of the box ready.Solved that with a piece of black electrical tape.I'm not sure why they couldn't have just sent me a replacement and have me mail back the broken one.I'm starting to lose confidence in their product at this point. I had just ordered a new camera to added to my system and here I'm waiting again for a new DVR. Hands are tied at this point. The DVR is turning on and off every 15 minutes.I have sent them an email about adding a microphone to the side of one of my cameras and have yet to hear if this will work or not.They promised to send a replacement as it is within the warranty. I submitted the proof of purchase and waiting for their instructions. Would like a little better night view but it is acceptable. I just can't access the dvr to check the video history. not good.so far I will rate it a 2 until I get together with support and see if they can do anything. Customer service will not come to the phone and we have not received a response on our warranty claim. I had a couple of complaints from customers that my business was not open on time. Needless to say, once this system went up, the problem stopped. I run multiple business and the ability to remotely watch this location from the palm of my hand is a plus. I will recommend to anyone. Great quality for the price. During the daytime the cameras work great. At night they start out good but then the viewing area seems to get smaller as the night goes on. Maybe the power source of quality of the actual night vision. Over all we are satisfied and would buy it again. We had installers hook it up so I can't comment on that process. I am pleased with the performance for the price. The cameras are not as clear as I thought they would be. It is difficult to get a good view of a face if the subject is walking, even close. If you want something that will capture tag numbers etc, forget about it. If does work well for viewing cars or general images of people and other things of that nature. I had it installed professionally which added to the cost but the guys said setup was a breeze. I enjoy monitoring on my smartphone and laptop. That was very easy to set up. I wish I had tried to install the system myself. The running of the cables appeared to be the hardest part. Almost forgot, there is NO hole in the mount for the cable leaving it exposed and venerable.
