It is permanently attached to the machine, has little flexibility.The only way to overcome this, is elevating the entire machine by placing it on a stable surface several feet above floor level. Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2012 Prior to purchasing DC25, I bought DC28 animal. After reading many reviews ranging from 1 star to 5 stars, at least I expected Dyson vacuum to have much more suction power than the existing Eureka vacuum. First of all, my Eureka vacuum never had any problems over five years of use. After using it a few times I really could not tell any MAJOR differences in suction power between the two. My Eureka pet lover came with extended adjustable pipe for cleaning stairs and other hard to reach areas whereas Dyson DC28 animal did not come with any additional pipe. As other reviews state, you will have difficult time cleaning the stairs because the extension is not long enough to drag it more than a few feet away from the vacuum. The Eureka pet lover was much easier to use. Dumping the dust out of the bag was much easier with Dyson products however. I decided to return DC28 since it TRULY DOES NOT HOLD UP FOR THE PRICE. I was really disappointed. Then I decided to give a shot at DC25 because a friend of mine had it for a few years and she still loves it. Also, DC25 was on sale at Amazon. However, as I was assembling out of the box, I felt the product was not built with precision. Rather, the plastic parts were built somewhat clumsy. For example, the parts where you can disconnect and connect back with a click of sound (such as the filter cap and the main brush) did not seem to fit 100. I mean there is no problem with it but just feels like the parts were made from separate manufacturer. Even though I was quite disappointed with DC28, I have not used enough to rate DC25 with confidence. I understand that technology portion of a machine often determines its price but as for now I must say that Dyson products are WAY OVERPRICED. I have to guess that since everything is way more expensive in UK this kind of price might make sense. But in the states, Dyson vacuum prices makes absolutely NO SENSE. It is easy to use from carpet to hard floors and it picks all the dirt, hair and whatever else needs to be cleaned. It swivels easily and it is not too heavy. But I never felt the need to upgrade. This vacuum very effectively removes dog hair from carpet and furniture and keeps them very clean. I found a video in YouTube where I found out how to clean all the filters. I wash them periodically. I have long hair, so I also need to remove hair from the rotating brush. I do this using scissors. Lance N. 4.0 out of 5 stars I'm going to take off one star for cost (I'd have preferred only a half star), because these really are not in the budget of typical families (or if they are, they're a luxury item), and I'd like to see the company get this type of quality at a price point more people could afford. I'd been looking to replace my Hoover Wind Tunnel for more than a year and had wanted a Dyson ball model a long time. Was glad to find it at that price. The vacuum appears to do a great job on both carpets and floors and is very easy to maneuver and use. It's sucking up a tremendous amount of dirt. As an engineer, it really speaks to my optimization side. Everything about this vacuum has been thought through. I'll list several examples. Obviously, the ease of emptying the container and having no bag is great (see more on this below). There is a button that turns the floor brush on and off for carpets and hard wood floors (we have both). When you pull out the wand, the floor brush automatically shuts off and the suction switches from the floor to the wand. The fact that I can just wash the filters is nice and I read a review that said a laster particle meter detected no dust coming out of the motor vent, so the filters must do their job well. I like how the wand can extend about 4 ft (Dyson says that 4 ft plus the hose gives you 15 ft of reach. I haven't tested that, but it seems reasonable).https://eytam.com/images/canon-np6016-service-manual.pdf I will say that it takes a few steps to detach the wand from the hose if you just want to use the hose (on my old Hoover, you just detach the hose and go.This is a small example to show the Dyson's not perfect, but it's WAY better any vacuum I've tried. Emptying the bin is easy, but I find I want to empty it a couple of times when I vacuum the house becuase it picks up a lot of dirt.When you empty the bin, you may want to do it in the outside trash because the dust is so fine it tends to create a small cloud. I'd prefer that cloud not be in the kitchen trash. I've also found that the stringy stuff that gets pulled up can stick in the canister and I have had to pull it out by hand a couple of times. I could probably bang the canister against the inside of the trash can harder, but I'm not willing to do that yet because it's still pretty new, it was expensive, and even though I probably won't, I'm scared I might break it. Finally, I'll add that once empty, there's still a fine layer of dust on the inside that could be ignored, but it makes me want to wipe it with a wet paper towel before stowing it back in the closet. I know there are lighter vacuums, but I'm really satisfied by the weight and maneuverability of this one. Overall, vacuuming is literally more fun using this vacuum and I feel I'm getting the carpets and floors good and clean by the time I'm done. I'm really glad I purchased it. I'll just say that when it eventually breaks, it's going to be painful replacing it because of how expensive they are. Maybe another Gold Box will come along in 5-10 years just before that happens. Please try again later. Wine Country 5.0 out of 5 stars It made us smile as soon as we took it out of the box. It's sleeker than we thought it would be and it's just really cool and modern looking. (thank you to the reviewer who said the instructions on opening it are on the bottom of the box!) We had it running in just a couple of minutes. We tried it on our living room area rug and couldn't believe the amount of lint and dog hair it pulled out of it! (We replaced a Dirt Devil, also with a hepa filter that didn't work nearly as well and was super loud and super heavy. We also had to wash the filter every other use instead of every 3 months). This Dyson works well on our ceramic tile kitchen floor and cork flooring, too. It's very light and didn't take much practice for us to be able to maneuver it. It cleans right up against baseboards. A few reviewers mentioned a problem getting under furniture, but for us, this Dyson gets farther under furniture than any of our previous vacs. A few reviewers also said they didn't like the placement of the switches on the front, but it's one of the first things my husband said he liked. It's safely out of the way and won't be turned on accidentally, like with a foot switch. We haven't had the Dyson very long, and will update if we have any issues but, so far, so great. I saw this Dyson (the one I have wanted for a long time!) on Flash Sale during Black Friday Week and snapped it up. No random kitchen crumbs or cat litter. The extending tool is so handy - no need to adjust any settings before pulling out the wand and cleaning baseboards. It makes quick work of the detail cleaning that used to be a chore. Our house is two story, so one is kept upstairs, the other down. We live in Santa Fe, NM which is the land of enchantment, but also the land of a lot of dirt and dust so I bought my first on at the end of December of 2011 at Lowe's when it was on sale and after using it and loving the cleaning power, I bought another from Amazon for the upstairs area of our home which is almost all hardwood floors. I'm fortunate to be able to own two high priced vacuums and I would still be happy with just one, but since I have bad knees and have difficulty taking the Dyson up and down between floors, it's a blessing to have both. Originally I was worried about this vacuum harming my floors since there are brick, wood, travertine and area rugs, but it has proved itself over and over again to pick up all kinds of debris without scratching the wood or eating the carpets. Did my senior thesis on that company (business major) This Dyson was a pleasant suprise. It cleans very well and I find the engineering of it very different and innovative. My wife is tiny and she finds it easier to push around the house than most vacs. Aside from the excellent cleaning it does, one of the features we both like the best is how quiet it is in comparison to other upright machines. She can be vacuuming the room and I can still talk to her without having to shut it off. It really does not lose suction, regardless of how much heavy dust I was sucking up. I have one of these vacuum cleaners and my sister used it to clean my mom's room. She loved it so much that she said she wished she had one. So I bought her one. The only problem was the vacuum was received cracked; but she was able to return it to Walmart and to purchase an identical vacuum uncracked. This is one of the best vacuum cleaners that I have ever had. It is so easy to use with the one with the ball. Both my sister and myself have back problems but using the vacuum cleaner isn't a problem because it is light weight and moves around better with the ball than a standard vacuum cleaner. We have had our Dyson DC28 Animal for about 18 months now. Our home is a mix of long pile carpet, hardwood and tile. We also have some rugs with short pile. We have two golden retrievers who only go outside a few times a day, but are brushed twice daily to remove loose hair. We bought our DC28 due to it's claims and our thought that it would be able to handle our situation. We picked the more expensive Dyson over others thinking it would be head an shoulders above the rest and last us for a long time. As with most products, it has good points and bad. Unfortunately in my mind, the bad outweigh the good. First the good:Now for the negatives:This is the reason I would never recommend this product. I cannot vacuum more than two rooms in my house without the belt drive becoming clogged with hair, then the belt starts to slip on the drive motor and make a horrible noise. To correct the problem, I have to remove the lower protective cover, remove the brushbar and belt, and then clean the belt drive gear with needlenose pliers. The whole ordeal takes about 15mins before I'm ready to reassemble and continue vacuuming. This is not an acceptable tradeoff for me. In my case, the DC28 is not upto par. Maybe if you have animals with short hair, you might be better off. It has powerful suction and though it looks battle worn--I have put it through it's paces and some!The only replacement was the belt on the roller-once. Just wipe it down and keep the roller areas clear and it works and works and works. I love this vacuum. It has cleaned up after 3 cats and 2 dogs over the years. It works on all surfaces very well and will last a long time still. I recently bought a Dyson v8 absolute (stick, cordless) and love it as well.
