I would say, save up for a better TV unless you want one right now like me, then this will be a good choice for the price. You get for what you pay. Overall the television provides for a well rounded purchase, but if you want an excellent buy, then go with Samsung or Sony because this is only half as good as those, but this is still pretty darn good. I would recommend this to a friend Helpful (1) Unhelpful (0) Report Comment Tex1 Tex1 Rating 4 out of 5 stars with 1 review Good 720p LCD Posted 12 years ago. Tex1 Good bedroom TV. Really nice they put in 2 HDMI ports on the back. Plus, there's a slew of other options including s-video and composite video connections. I guess what I'm saying here is no matter what you want to hook up to it, there's a port on the back. Even a video port for your computer! Very nice. I have it mated up to a Dish Network high def DVR and I'm very happy with it. 720p is still a heck of a lot nicer than standard definition. We ran it for 10 days or so waiting on Dish to send me the upgraded high def box. So, I have good reference for this. Two pieces of advice: HDMI cables with high prices are scams in my opinion. I just bought one somewhere locally and only paid 17 bucks. There is no advantage to paying 75 bucks for an HDMI cable. I'm not sure the electrons care how much you pay for your cable. It's a digital signal. It either passes the signal or it doesn't. Don't waste your money. Secondly, since the TV was only 499, I ended up popping for the extended warranty. I'm not big on extending warranties on stuff. I hardly ever do it. Consumer Reports had listed which products they recommend extending warranties and high def flat panel TV's made the rather short list. I used to have a guy that officed next to me that ran an independent TV repair shop. You would not believe how many 2 year old LCD and Plasma sets he had stacked up in his shop. CRazy numbers. Get the warranty. It's an additional 50 bucks and Best Buy stands behind it even if they quit selling this exact model. You have a few weeks after the purchase to go back and buy the warranty if you didn't do it initially. You might end up with a signifcantly better TV. I would recommend this to a friend Helpful (0) Unhelpful (0) Report Comment iknowthings iknowthings Rating 5 out of 5 stars with 1 review Pleasantly suprised Posted 12 years ago. I eventually narrowed my choices down to 3 models, this being one of them. Initially I was prepared to be disappointed, and even went as far as to not even remove the protective plastic which keeps the bezel safe. After setting it up and using it for a few days, I am very glad I pulled the trigger and took a chance on purchasing this model. Not only did I save some money, I also believe that I got the better of the three I had in mind. Picture -. As you may have read from other reviews, the 'standard' picture is only okay. However, this is true of ALL digital LCD televisions regardless of their cost. It is especially noticeable if your last TV was a CRT or rearview projection set. The picture is excellent when using DVD, PC, or HD input. Color is nicely balanced and because of the matte screen, does excellent in lighted situations. My only complaint would be that I wish the menu allowed for finer adjustment. Sound -. Nothing to write home about, but it is adequate for a small room. It has a slightly 'thin' sound that I remedied to some degree with the tonal controls and I was surprised by the excellent stereo separation. Adding an external speaker system would quiet any complaints for those who wish to use it in a larger environment as would probably be done anyway for all the audio snobs who are complaining that this isn't a THX 5.1 surround system out of the box. I have yet to find one that meets those demands. Misc. -. I would have much preferred them to be located on the side inset.
