There is a distorted outline on words and people when viewing both HD and SD. Watching SD with a decent picture will require you to use Normal Mode on the picture modifier. Using Normal will reduce your viewing size to roughly a 25” TV. The sound is okay, surround sounds option creates a tunneling effect. I had to buy a HD upconvert 1080p from Sony to enjoy my DVD’s via HDMI. Looks really really good. Only the 1080p allows you to get a large picture without sacrificing resolution. Overall, I suggest keeping your receipt, you may feel buyer’s remorse once you see your picture in SD format. And honestly, my ole' tube has a much better picture. The picture is waaaay better than insignia (don't waste your money or time). I am VERY happy with the TV. It looks great and the picture is good too. Not the best, but pretty clear in HD and a lot better looking than my old tube TV. The speakers in the TV are nothing to write home about, but I ended up hooking it up to an old 5.1 receiver I had and turned the volume off on the TV itself. It has plenty of inputs in the back which is great. I have 1 HDMI hooked up to cable, 1 set of RCA's hooked up to surround sound, and another set of RCA's hooked up to DVD, and the analog monitor output hooked up to my computer. And I still have 1 HDMI and 2 component hook-ups to spare. Now stop reading this and go buy a TV!!! Then, one day when I was in our local Best Buy store -- shopping for something else -- there it was. It was the price tag. After absorbing that little nugget of information, I looked the set over, as well as the list of its features. So, being the good husband that I think I am, I brought one home. Here's the rundown on its specs. Nothing too fancy, as you can see from the list. But it has, thus far, turned out to be the Goldilocks of TVs as far as my family is concerned. So let's get on to some questions, shall we? Setting up the TV physically is simple. The included stand, which is made of plastic and metal, attaches to the bottom of the set with four screws. I did use a screwdriver once I was done just to be sure. The set weighs not quite 31 pounds. So this one didn't take an ironman to move from where I put it together to its final location. You can also mount the set on a wall, but, of course, such a mount is not included. All of the connections are on the right side of the set (if you're facing the front) or the left if you're facing the back. Some flat-panel sets have their connections mounted facing downward. That's not too handy, in my opinion. The Dynex's connections are very well located and super easy to get to quickly. I've been able to connect my wife's desktop computer to it, and, combined with her new Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, we were able to eliminate the bulky desk we once had to use. I also hooked up a Wii and a DVD player. There's also enough inputs left over for a VCR and anything else we might choose to connect. It worked out well. There are two HDMI inputs, which I've no reason to use now, and an optical audio output, which I also have no reason to use. You might, however, and they're right there with all the other connections. Nothing is hard to get to, and all connections are solid. Analog channels (they're all still on the air where I live) come in crisp and clear, and digital channels -- particularly those broadcasting in HD -- are virtually lifelike. Picture quality with the various inputs is likewise excellent. When we connected the computer to a standard tube television, it was difficult to read the smaller characters on the screen. Not so with this one. The most minute detail is sharp, and that's without adjusting a single picture control. Adjusting the sharpness to its maximum is almost too much. You can zoom the picture about four different ways, but I normally stick with the standard, widescreen mode. There is not much noticeable distortion when you go wide with programs broadcast in 4:3 ratio, which I find interesting. Sound quality is perhaps the only low point. But, after I connected the TV to the surround system, I have no complaints. If you're going to depend on the internal speakers alone, be prepared. There's not much bass response. A decent audio system is worth investing in. The menu system is clear and concise. There are a myriad of controls to adjust picture, sound, noise reduction, channels, etc. etc. If you want to know more, Dynex has made the DX-LCD32-09's manual available on their website at www.dynexproducts.com. But suffice it to say that you can suit virtually everything about this TV to your liking, and you can change it back to the default settings if you so choose. That's handy. As far as setting up channels, it's just a few selections and you're done. Very simple. You cannot, however, manually add channels through the menu; it's auto scan only. If you know the RF channel number, you can punch it in outside the realm of the menu and it will be automatically added. In addition, analog channels do not automatically label themselves with the station's call letters when they're added, but digital ones do; this isn't unusual, really. If you like, you can add labels, or edit those which come up, any way you want. I've not seen that on a digital set before, although I must say my experience with digital TVs is limited. It's a nice feature; I can say that much. The remote operates ONLY the television. It's not a fancy, frilly universal job, but it is well laid-out and intuitive to use once you have used it a few times. I like it a lot. That almost goes without saying. Movies are almost theater-quality, and regular TV shows are close. My answer is this: Our living room isn't really large enough to justify something that large. Our kids love it, our friends love it, and most importantly, my wife and I love it. And, if you're in the market, I think you will, too. However, when I did the channel scan I found that I got NBC, CBS, FOX, and several other channels in HD!
