These pages include Quickfire phrases that can be instantly adapted to casual or formal situations, as well as groups of phrases that can shift from past to present or future tense using a single button. Prediction Prediction features support the natural, efficient composition and communication of messages by reducing the amount of navigation necessary to compose a message. A number of prediction options are available to aid users in prediction customization. Three types of prediction are available: As the keyboard is used to create a message, word prediction will attempt to anticipate the word the user is typing, presenting options for quick selection. Words can be predicted with or without symbols. Character prediction attempts to predict the next character most likely to be used when a user is spelling out a word. Character prediction is particularly useful to scanning users. 7 With phrase prediction, your device will provide options for entire phrases that match any part of the current message, not just phrases from the beginning of a sentence. Predicted phrases come from users My Phrases collection, and may be restricted by concept. Abbreviation Expansion Abbreviation expansion allows users to define specific abbreviations for long words and phrases. With the abbreviation expansion feature, users can send messages that are frequently composed and shared (e.g. greetings, introductions and questions, etc.) to the Message Window with just a few selections. Behaviors A range of behaviors, like Environmental Controls, included within the Series 5 Software can be performed using a single button. Macros assign a name to a list of behaviors that may be used in multiple places so that frequent activities like turning on the living room light, turning on the TMaestrofor favorite programs, changing the channel and speaking the message: My show is on can be performed with ease. My Phrases The My Phrases menu allows the user to define specific phrases for use in a variety of situations (greetings, quick questions, changing the subject, etc). Phrases can be sent to the Message Window as part of a longer message, or can be spoken directly as stand-alone messages. They can also be sorted by concept and accessed from the title bar at any time so that they are always immediately available. Quickfires Quickfires are short conversation interjections (e.g. I know, wait a second, etc.) that are available for use in any setting. Slots Slots are a rate enhancement feature that allow for message construction using common phrases (e.g., For breakfast I want ) that are paired with a placeholder (the slot) and can be filled with another phrase or a single word. By selecting the slots and changing the filler text, phrases can quickly and easily be changed to suit the given context of the interaction. Slots suitable in different contexts include: Speak Random Text Using Slots can make conversation more spontaneous and engaging. For example, you can program a Slot with the best friends concept, and call the button Greet Marilyn. When this button is selected, it will use the name Marilyn in a randomly chosen phrase from the best friends concept list, such as, Hey, Marilyn, what s up?; Marilyn, how s it going?; Hey, Marilyn, how are you?, etc. Nested Slots allow users to include a slot within another slot. For example, a user may compose the text, I want meal for lunch, where meal is a slot. The filler options for meal could include, soup, salad and sandwich, all of which are slots. If, for example, sandwich is selected by the user, options such as ham, turkey or peanut butter and jelly could be selected fillers. Universal Access to Slots is an accessible feature using any selection method, including switch access, joystick and Morse Code. Slot Filler Keyguard Alignment allows users to optimize the Slot Filler menu to match the desired page layout or keyguard configuration. Slots Tab Pane enables you to select the symbol placement and button size settings for the Select Slot Filler menu. Concept Slot Fillers simplify the procedure for modifying the filler (word or phrase) options associated with a slot. Users can add or remove fillers, change the order in which the filler options appear, change the filler text or change the symbol associated with a slot filler. Active Labels enable you to embed an active label in a slot. When in use, the slot will display and speak the current value for the active label. Slots provide users with easy access to words associated with a particular concept. Users can select a slot and choose to replace the word that is currently filling the slot with another word from the same concept. Maintain a home page setting for each language, and switch between two languages using a single button. Allow different languages and voices to exist on the same page. Change the language of the menus and prompts. Series 5 Software on multilingual Maestro devices maintains a different system keyboard setting for each language. The software enables you to use the standard Windows keyboard shortcuts to create the and characters used in the Spanish language.
