They are the best I have ever seen and I have purchased at least 5 different styles over the years. I agree with the other comment that they should also have a night lite option but for a flashlight and power failure back up light, they are exceptional. I'm not sure if the new units still have that feature. With that said, I have just recently ordered two more sets to replace several older style Black and Decker units that finally died. So now we will see if these new Durofix units are of the same quality as the units I purchased years ago. I found they are still available from a seller here on Amazon and also available at Sears and K-Mart. I can't say why there are so many negative reviews here, perhaps spotty quality production, but my original units are still working 100 and they have been invaluable as an emergency back up light. I love them and I hope the new ones are of the same quality. I needed to find a good quality plug-in emergency light for the basement and these looked like the best for my needs. Unfortunately neither of the two that I received worked for me. I went out of town for a few days and upon coming back went to check them. The red light was still on and the units would not turn on no matter what I tried. I was disappointed that both units wouldn't work but I wasn't all that surprised either from previous reviews. Amazon made it easy to get an RMA for refund (replacement was not an option). I am still debating if I'll try a second set or go for a different brand. They have been working great and I am very pleased. The night light was not needed but is a nice addition. The emergency lights work great and have a light sensor so if the power goes out during the day the lights don't turn on and waste away before it even gets dark. They were slightly more because there was no free shipping option when I bought them. Please try again later. I have one in the patio for nights. There are 2 settings, one for all 12 bulbs, which I've never left on all night but I think it lasts for 4 hours but I use the 2nd setting - 6 bulbs luminate - and it lasts about 7 hrs. Five of the orders arrived with at least one dead (non-functioning-either charge light never came on or it was still on with no light operation after 48 hours of charge time) and three of the orders (one for 4 units, one for 2 units and 1 for 1 unit) had ALL UNITS non-functional. While they charge, an LED at the bottom is red. At full charge, the LED turns green and is about as bright as the LED on my speaker. I love them and I hope the new ones are of the same quality.These however are very bright (bright enough so that it's uncomfortable to look at the when on) and last quite a while, at least 2-3 hours on bright and even longer on the 50 setting. I don't get 8 hours out of ours, it's more like 6 hours on 50 brightness, but they do last quite a while considering the amount of light they put out. After owning and using a pair for our home for a while, we bought a set for my 83-yo Mother-in-Law. Since they use 24 LEDs (in 4 columns of 6) and Lithium ion batteries, they should last a while before needing replacement and will continue to function if a few of the LEDs are damaged. Other nice features are that they only block one outlet and have flat ends so they can stand up on a flat surface. The back is also flat (the plug folds) so you can set them on their backs to reflect off of the ceiling to light a room quite well. Having a 50 setting is also very useful and this is the setting we use most of the time as the full brightness is sometimes a bit much for use as a flashlight. Other than that, no problems. The light is controlled electronically so that it goes off when the light is plugged in. You cannot turn the light on while it is receiving power from the socket. When you turn off the power or remove the light from the socket, it changes to its full brightness setting automatically. At that point, you can push the rubber-covered button on the side to move the light to its dimmed setting on the first push, to its off setting on the second, then back to full lighting on a third push, and so on. How Your EM Water Softener Works Hard water enters your home through the main supply line, enters the softener and passes down through a resin mineral bed which softens the water. An ion exchange process takes place in which the resin beads capture and hold calcium and magnesium, the hardness minerals, while the water takes on sodium ions. The soft water then flows into your household water line. In normal operation, the Time of Day display will alternate being viewed with the Volume Remaining display. This display will be in gallons. Once this occurs, a regeneration cycle will then be initiated at the Set Regeneration Time. Water flow through the valve is indicated by the Flow Dot that will flash in direct relationship to flow rate. Example 833 Gallons of Treated Water Remaining 0 Gallons of Treated Water Remaining In regeneration the control will display a special Regeneration Display. In this display, the control will show the current regeneration step number the valve is advancing to or has reached and the time remaining in that step. The step number displayed will flash until the valve has completed driving to this regeneration step position. Once all regeneration steps have been completed, the valve will return to Service and resume normal operation. Control Operation During Programming The control will only enter the Program Mode with the valve in Service. The control will, upon power re-application, resume normal operation from the point where it was interrupted. An indication that a power outage has occurred will be an inaccurate Time of Day display. Subjecting the softener to freezing or temperatures above 49 C (120 F) will void the warranty. Soft Water Line in Home Temporarily plug the open end of the riser tube to ensure that no resin or gravel falls down into the distribution. A new water line is often required to be connected to supply hard water to the inlet of the water softener and to the outside faucets. Cut the water line between where it enters the house, before any lines that branch off to feed water heater or other fixtures in the house, and as near the desired location of the water softener as possible. Install a tee fitting on the feed end of the cut pipe and an elbow fitting on the other end. Install piping from the tee of the water softener and from the elbow to the outlet to the softener. Install an elbow on the end of the pipe nearest the outside faucet and a cap on the end connected to the existing water line. Install piping from the tee on the inlet line to the water softener to the elbow installed on the pipe to the outside faucet. Following this procedure will result in all lines in the house, with the exception of the outside faucets, but including the water heater and therefore the hot water lines, being supplied with soft water. 2 4 Installation Instructions Cont d Figure 3 To Outside Faucet Cut and Connect Elbow Fitting Cold Hard Cut and Cap Water Heater Hot Soft In Out Cold Soft In Out Existing Plumbing Lines New Plumbing Lines Supply Line Cold Hard Cold and Connect Tee Fitting Water Softener 3. On cabinet models, lit off the control valve cover and the salt cover to expose the control valve. The electronic control module in the control valve cover remains connected to the control valve by means of the wiring harness. Familiarize yourself with the location of the inlet, outlet and drain on the control valve. Be very careful not to get the controls wet. 4. Attach the bypass valve to the control valve. Connect the inlet and outlet of the water softener to the plumbing in the house. The control valve must not be submitted to temperatures above 71 C (160 F). When sweat fittings are used, to avoid damaging the control valve, solder the threaded copper adapters to the copper pipe and then using Teflon tape screw the assembly into the bypass valve. Run the drain line to a floor drain or a laundry drain using an airgap or other acceptable method to prevent cross-connection between your potable water system and your sewage system. Connect the brine line to the fitting on the side of the valve using the nut and ferrule. Tighten snugly. 7. Make sure the bypass valve is in the service position. 8. Plug the 24 volt transformer into a 120 VAC 60 Hz outlet. Verify that there is brine being drawn from the tank. If not, repeat step 9 through 10 or see Cleaning the Injector Assembly on Page 7 of this manual. 11. Press the extra cycle button to advance the valve to position 2 Backwash position and then press the extra cycle button again to advance the valve to Position 4 - Brine fill. Additional water can be added manually at this time to achieve this level, however, the valve needs to be in the brine fill position to allow all air to be purged from the pressure regulator and injector set. 12. Press the extra cycle button to advance the valve to the Service position. 13. Put 40 kgs of crystal water softener salt in the brine tank. The unit will automatically fill to correct level when it regenerates. 14. Before replacing the control valve cover and salt cover on cabinet models, ensure the wiring harness is securely plugged into the circuit in the electronic control module. The unit will regenerate automatically as needed. Optional Sanitization Procedure: We recommend that all new water conditioners be disinfected as part of the startup. Sanitization is achieved by the application of chlorine in the regeneration cycle of the conditioner. A liquid solution of 5.25 sodium hypochlorite (commonly referred to as household bleach) is recommended as a suitable disinfectant. Use only unscented products.
