The other simple option I can think of from the top of my head, would be to just install a simple leveler on top of the table semi-permanently, which could be used as a latch to keep the mode leveler at manual when desired (think simple, miniscule door latch for example). The plan is to keep the original tonearm working as well, the 2nd arm will have some nice cartridge and the stock arm some different nice cartridge for background music and worn records. It is enough to keep the original tonearm in the up position and just move it slightly over the rest towards the platter. That is 'good enough', but this way you have to move the arm both when beginning and ending a record - for start, move original tonearm, press manual, cue 2nd tonearm - at the end, raise 2nd arm and move original arm to rest to stop platter. It just seems to me more satisfying and elegant would be if the manual mode switch just engaged and stayed put, that way the original arm could rest in peace while using the 2nd one The table is perfectly usable stock, but as I'm building a pretty plinth for it, I'd like to continue that prettiness into usabilty as well. See if the problem is solvedB: It is a record changer C: It is a Dual, which gets us back to issue A D: It needs complete overhaul with wear parts every 5 years in normal home use, more often if heavily used. E: Too many owners never did issue D when necessary. That said, it is an excellent record changer when well maintained and adjusted. In nice order it is very musical and performs great. Lenco Heaven Hi All, I have a Dual 1019 project but of course it does not have a headshell. Have been watching, bidding and losing eBay auctions lately to no avail. Does anyone have one of these or know a way I can modify a more attainable model to be 1019 friendly. I have also thought of retrofitting a 12XX series headshell onto the existing armtube. Any help or guidance is much appreciated. Chris All of the 12 series have a smaller diameter armtube than the 1019 so some rework would have to be done to adapt one to the other. I have seen a 1019 with a home-made nonremovable head, since that owner could not find a replacement cartridge mount, either. After removing the stock tonearm head, a hardwood dowel was ground down to fit tightly into the 1019 armtube, with a hole drilled in the middle for the wiring. A right-angled piece of aluminum was drilled to fit tightly onto the end of the dowel that was left sticking out. The offset angle was accounted for by the way the aluminum angle stock was cut to make the platform for the cartridge, and two slots cut into the platform accommodated the cartridge mounting screws. I wish I had taken a photo of it because that would tell the story a lot quicker than typing all these words! I am having trouble picturing your description but what you describe is what I had envisioned as my plan B, now being quickly promoted to plan A As I understand it, if I can keep the length consistent, I should be able to apply the offset that is currently designed into the existing headshell, no. Ideally, I may just take an existing 12XX series headshell and deal with the tube diameter issue - this may also allow me to provide capability to some VTA tweaking. Do you know, is the extraction of the existing armtube a big deal. And maybe as a last question, why has anyone not made a mold of this unattainable headshell piece - in pictures it looks simple enough and a bit of strategically poured epoxy and some small contact strips. The engineering of the headshell does not look that substantial. So here is an offer to anyone out there - if you have a dead or donor (or loaner) 1019 headshell, I will try to make a mold and then we can be rich and famous together Chris When ordered as a replacement part, the armtube and head were supplied as one part. There is an additional complication in making a new headshell or cartridge mount for an autochanger. Whereas in a separate arm you need to get the length and offset correct, on an autochanger, the LATERAL position of the stylus tip, relative to the mechanism that operates the arm, must be correct, else the thing won't pick up at the end of the record, go through its cycle, and set down on the beginning of a record. There is a small amount of adjustment provided but it won't compensate for a major discrepancy. You may find it easier to try and mount a flat piece of plastic or aluminum to the existing tonearm head, as a cartridge mounting platform. You can always solder short jumper wires with tags on them, to make the electrical connection to the cartridge. Have looked at service guide and user manual and feel like I have missed something. 1) my experience with autochangers in the past is that when an end of side condition is found and there are no remaining records on a spindle, the STOP function will be initiated. My deck seems to be running fine in this regard EXCEPT that at end of since it starts over again, as if START had been initiated. In my deck it comes to rest about 6 mm to the right of the tonearm rest. I can see the long linkage that determines the travel of the arm but can see o adjustment in this linkage. Any advice?
