If you've got subs already, then you need to either add more, or buy better subs. It's not a good idea to force speakers into reproducing something they're not designed to do. The amount of bass coming from a speaker is a physical limitation. If you add more bass via EQ then you're putting more strain on your amps and on the speaker driver itself. What the driverack does for powered speakers is what signal processing does for passive speakers. I know that you don't own one so I am taking this opportunity to try to share some info with you. You first need to understand that a powered speaker is first just a speaker that has the amp attached. The circuitry provided with the speaker is good but GENERAL. The DSP provided only hits GENERAL optimization. Some people may want their sub to hit at 85 or 90Hz instead of the GENERAL 100Hz provided by the built in DSP. Some people may wish to compress the bass or the highs to clean up and tighten up the sound to suit their own preferences. The Driverack allows you to do all this and a lot more. It can QE the room, balance the speakers, cut feedback, set limits, compress, set delays, incorporate sub harmonics and more. You can set and use only the things you want and or need. You do not have to use everything that's available in the driverack. I have very high end gear and my speakers sound GREAT stand alone but sound AMAZING using the driverack. My sound is louder, stronger, clearer, clearer, crisper, sharper and more defined WITHOUT pushing too hard or adding additional gain or master. If I push more, I still have a bit of headroom to play with. My bass is tighter, deeper, CLEANER. My highs are smoother and not harsh even at extremely loud volumes. You do not have to use one but please don't discourage someone from using one as it could save their whole sound system even if it's just protecting the speakers from clipping. A quick browse of the manuals for the QSC sub and the ZXA5 shows that the two can be used together quite simply, by feeding the ZXA5s from the pass-through outputs of the QSC sub and setting ZXA5s to high pass mode. This is exactly the method used by QSC on their range, which is why the QSC sub only has pass-through. Plus, the high pass on the ZXA5s is at 100Hz too, so should work just fine with the QSC sub. I could say that, but I won't because with the built in Wizards, you could get away with knowing very little about these things, and still get great results. I would strongly recommend, however, adding the RTA-M reference mike to your purchase, unless you have something else equivalent. There are several Wizard programs, that will take you through setting up the DriveRack to recognize your system, set volume levels, auto EQ etc. Even pros should appreciate these apps as they pave the way to a great starting point in ringing out your system, and your venue. While Pink and White noise generation is available, the Wizards use frequency sweeps to tune the system, speaker by speaker, and point by point in the room. The feedback control is quite nice. With 12 filters that can be divided in to Fixed (for room characteristics) and Active ( to handle performance characteristics) this system keeps feedback on a very short leash. Getting the best out of your sound system is achievable as the Driverack has 6 XLR outs for stereo High, Mid, and Low speaker systems OR you can run a single chain for a simple mono system. The RTA Wizard takes your configuration and figures out where you should place the reference mike for it to analyze your system. The Automatic Feedback System (AFS) is used after you have set up a rough mix with all mikes in place. This clever little wizard listens to the system as you raise your mixer faders. You can hear the feedback begin, and then get squelched as the AFS kicks in. Pros will appreciate the ability to control pretty much anything from the Display contrast, to the Crossover frequencies on each speaker array. The only thing i can think of to complain about is the size of the display, but even I think this is unfair because, let's face it, it is a 1U sized device. There is not a lot of real estate to work with. There is also a Laptop application that will allow access to the device via a router, with makes the controls much easier to manipulate. In summary, you get a lot of bang for the buck.The automatic feedback suppression alone is worth it’s weight in gold. We hold company meetings for 600 people in a giant metal box with a concrete floor. Amplified sound in there is not good; with tons of reflection and echoes. Before the DBX, we tried a wireless lav microphone once and temporarily deafened the first 6 rows of the audience when it fed back. That experiment was not repeated for an entire year. Our equipment then got upgraded with 4x the power. Wireless mics were out of the question unless I could find a solution. This DBX box is that solution. We typically run 2 or 3 wireless lavs simultaneously now where one was impossible before. I have had a presenter get within 20 feet of a loudspeaker without any issues; where 50 feet used to be squealing. The amp and loudspeaker equalization is just icing on the cake. Being able to set up everything with an iPad 75 feet from the rack rocks too.I have some homemade PA speakers (nice ones) and some I bought, and I finally bought a TP-LINK 300 so I could set up the internet. I had to use my iPhone and set set the TP-Link as a client on my computer. I connected both the TP-Link to my phone and the device (via cable) and installed the app, and it found it automatically. From there I was finally having fun. Before that, it was a lot of head scratching. Love this thing. Makes my other speakers sound way better, and my new speakers, sound perfect. Has a limiter to save you from blowing a speaker. I am using stage mics (nice ones) to set this up. Anyways, I am not a pro DJ, I just do this for fun (if you can call it that). It really takes my set up the next level. Makes my setup sound like it should and takes all the guess work out. I bought my refurbished on here (via Amazon Prime). I buy most of my stuff used, or build it (rebuild stuff). But I am sure most people could not tell. I learned about these devices from another pro in the business, and I had to find the right one form my setup, and it took me a year to save the money. I really love it. I really do.Analog equipment just works over and over, and my laptop just gets virus after virus. After slowly adopting some digital equipment and seeing it work over the long term, I decided to try the PA2 processor. All I can say is holy cow. It does everything that a rack full of analog EQ's, comps, delays, and crossovers would do ten years ago. That alone makes it amazing, but add the wireless option, and now I can tune monitors from stage, I can walk the hall with my phone and tune. Cool stuff, (and I know this review is about five years late for the engineers who have been fully digital with BEhinger and Midas board for a few years). But here is the lowdown. It works. as specified, with great sound, and easy set up for those who have less system tuning experience.
