drayton up2 manualOne of the things that I liked about the EP2002 was its ability to have different timings at the weekend. I asked the engineer if the new timer he was putting in could do that, and his answer was that it couldn’t. If only he’d bothered to read the manual (which incidentally he didn’t leave me with). The UP2 is held onto its backplate with a couple of screws, and can be removed by loosening them and lifting it out and up. I could then get to the jumpers on the back: The top switches between L inked (hot water and central heating on the same timer) and I ndependent (hot water and central heating on separate timers). The bottom switches between P umped and G ravity. It was set to 1 which has the same 24hr timers every day. The other option is 7 which can then be configured to give different timers for each day of the week.I’ve not bothered to customise specific days because I don’t need that. So I’d like to do something Raspberry Pi based, likely starting with the thermostat. If I end up doing that I might return to this video of dismantling the UP2. One of the things I’d like to try is web-based control of my UP2: I’m fine for writing software, but the thing I don’t know is whether there is any interface into the UP2 that would let me control it remotely, e.g. change programmes, override, and so on. Any thoughts ? I’d been put off buying a Nest due to it being cloud based, but then my brother put one in, and I was persuaded that it would be OK; and then I put one in a little over a year ago, and it’s been fine. I can'tDoes the UP2 controller look anything like the LP722 he suggested? Another 10 year-old post !Son managed to.It was obviously going to be.I would like to reduce the.She has beenpaying.I have a direct debit account for my gas bill bla.For my Combi-Boiler I pay 163.00 pounds a.Even connected directly to a 13Aplug it does. Click here for more details The terminals order is the same, so it's a straight swap. Yes, a new one is included.Cheers folks. Phil I need to have it to control two zones of the house. I want to set the heating in the house for one heating time and another heating time for a granny flat to another time can this be done with the LP722. Thank you Is it time to replace the LP 522 with an LP 722. Many thanks I would be looking more at the motorised valves in that case. If it does, then it will be programmer at fault.I have a combi boiler system fitted in 1992, with a potterton boiler and a ACL Lifestyle wall controller. It has weekday and weekend programming. When I lift the outer plate it says Model LS522. Will this replace it, with no pfaffing or rewiring? Regards Can this be replaced by any ACL Drayton model onto the existing backplate without re-wiring? Thank you This LP722 will replace it using the included new backplate. The current time switch is fitted to a gravity fed system and switches two functions ie the central heating pump via a hall thermostat and the main gas boiler. Thanks The newer Tempus 3 Mk2 don't require a backplate change - it just plugs one. Upon unpacking I noted that instead of a slider switch on the rear of the unit to select P or G there is a red plastic tab. As a DIYer which way should this red tab fit over the pins. I had assumed that if it was covering the pins on the side with the G it was set up for P and indeed this is the only way it appears to work on my system but when I turn on the heating both green lights come on at the front of the controller.http://safe-international.com/userfiles/carvin-mts-3200-manual.xml Does this mean that both the HW and CH are on despite the marker on the HW side being set to off or does the hot water always come on with the CH. My old unit was set to P In the G position, it will bring on the hot water with the heating. The G position is for gravity systems. The P position is for systems with a motorised valve. My daughter has this programmer but no instructions There are also several videos on YouTube by Drayton controls.Especially if it keeps running after you turn the thermostats down. Thanks Jim S I assume that this is because of a problem with the rechargeable battery. Is it possible to replace the battery? They are not user replaceable. Is this the same as the LP722. In particular, does it have the 1-hour Boost facility, as opposed to the Advance feature that simply switches over until the next timed event. The download user manual for the LP722 does not seem to mention the Boost function as shown on the features list. Yes, it does have the 1 hour boost aswell as the advance feature. Chris Will I be able to connect existing room thermostat to it or I need to get a different one. If so ehat you recommend. Thanks Looks like my existing British Gas controller EMP2 has failed completely. Is this an easy DIY replacement (no change in wiring, backplate compatible)? Regards Is this a direct replacement which would involve no backplate removal or wiring. Also what one would you recommend the lp722 or lp522? The LP722 is the more flexible programmer. It is said to adjust automatically to clock changes, so wonder if this is the case. Our reception is very poor, so I would worry that the thing would take hours or days to obtain the time. Thank you for your help. The clock then adjusts the time backward or forwards automatically according to the date. So it may need to be replaced (a new one is included). It has driven me mad trying to reset programme on power loss, now cannot make any sence of the programing after power loss today.http://schlammatlas.de/en/node/17943 Do we need a new unit. If so, I do not want any complications. Everything the same 7 days a week, just different for water and heating and forget holiday complexities. Just want to get the thing going with no changes on daylight saving. The battery back up on current one is useless unless it has packed up all together. I cannot make sense of the thing right now. I think it needs replacing but keep it idiot proof please. Do you think latest LP722 will fill the bill. Or please recommend alternative. It has a much better backup battery now:Does the 722 have the same 1 hour boost as the Tempus 6 ( we use it a LOT). Is yes how is it accessedIs the battery user replaceable. It is not user replaceable. How can I correct. Do I need to replace controller. Can I just swap these units without the need for a plumber to be involved? Many thanks, Mark. You can replace with either the LP522 or LP722. It works OK but the backup battery has expired. The LP722 appears to be functionally identical, is it a direct replacement? You will need to change the backplate and sensor, but it will connect to the existing wires. Please see the link below. However, you will not need it as the LP722 will clip on the UP2 backplate. Many Thanks MikeI might be being thick - don't answer that - but the Switchmaster Sonata backplate has a Live, Neutral, a HW on wire, a HW off wire, a CH on wire but no wire to the CH off terminal. Is this an easy swap or will I have to rewire? Elwyn If you are unlikely to use the 7-day facility over the 5-2 day then the cheaper LP522 is obviously better. Many thanks John. Many thanks I have an acl lifestyle model LP241. The pull down cover has straight edges rather than a curved one. Would this timer fit to allow me to do a straight swap.I currently have the LP112 and its very old and I want to update it with a new version. I'm looking at LP522 and want to know the following:So sorry for all the questions but I want to make sure I buy the correct one? Many thanks.http://emphatiqsolutions.com/images/ca-state-drivers-manual.pdf Tina If you have a fully pumped system (with motorised vales) then it will be completely independentWill the LP722 fit on the original backplate or will the backplate require replacing Thank you Would this be a direct swap using the exsisiting back plate and wiring ? An easy 5-minute swap.Mine was fitted in 2003. So would be a simple 5-minute swap.It will then switch off again afterwards. Thank you. Can you tell me how to set times etc please or where online I could get info. Many thanks. Kevin o driscoll The only reason I am looking to change is mine is discoloured and has a chip of the corner it works perfectly we'll apart from this. Look forward to hearing back of you very soon so hopefully I can purchase I have a Sunvic Sunpro, I think it is the Sunpro 2000 if that makes any sense. This is the second Sunvic programmer I have had and both of them have been pretty useless,ie works for hot water wont work all the time for the central heating have to fiddle about with it most of the time, great when new then after a few mths useless.(I use the water and heating separately although both can function at the same time but have no need to run both all the time ect. My question, will this box replace my existing without having to change the wiring around and is it reliable ect? Thank you. Phil Weir. It is a very popular product as it is reliable. The other question I have is regarding the programming.Would this be a suitable electronic replacemnt for a Switchmaster 805. I want some thing that will fully control the water and heating seperately. Thanks. I don't want to be messing about with re-wiring, just remove the old item, swap with new. Enter the code in the box below: Where occupation varies controlling the heating to suit can give considerable savings in energy costs. Holiday mode allows temporary shut down for chosen periods. 'Programme test' gives a systematic check on all settings. Rating: Bad Would use this company again. Thank you so much.https://viajespereira.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1629c6196d789a---cpia-manual.pdf Perfect, very good price for a genuine Honeywell part. Installed and working, first class service. Thank you. Common timings for heating and hot water. No need to adjust the settings either. The whole changeover took less than half an hour. Easy! So easy to remove old unit and plug in this replacement, probably only took 10-15min. Increased brightness on the display means we can now see it easily in the airing cupboard. I am not happy with this product. Only problem with this one is timer setting is common for both central heating and hot water, which means if you would like central heating three times a day, hot water will be switched on three times as well. I don't think any one uses that much of hot water. This slotted onto the standard base socket and worked straight away. One less drama to deal with. Great news. How do I change from linked to independent ?The timer clock is not working. Would this be a suitable replacement, or is there another product you would suggest? ThanksYou would need to fit the new backplate and rewire it.Simply remove the LP112 from the back-plate and refit with the LP241The holiday period can be set from 1-99 daysI have a UP2 programmer and am thinking of replacing it.Pump is also on. UP2 programmer may be faulty. It looks the same as these Drayton ones. Does it matter which Drayton one I use to replace the UP2 one? Separate heating and hot water timings. The Mk4 replacement from Screwfix was a direct fit and worked instantly; even the installed program was just fine. And the new features are very welcome. I could have bought it on-line at just over half the price; but it was a winter Sunday, and the heating was off. So convenience scored! Reverse sequence to fit new one. Can be a little frustrating, but got there in the end. No real better alternative and always drop onto the cradle before.www.foodsach.com/uploads/files/Canon-ir3025-manual-espa-ol.pdf You will be able to replace the Sunvic SP100 foir the Drayton LP722, you have all the wires at the Sunvic necessary for the swap, but will need to reconfigure the wires to suit the LP722 backplate. With the LP722 will be a conversion chart showing the changes that need to be made. If you need further help with this, please let us know. The noice of the clockwork mechanism on the EMT2 is driving us crazy! ThanksIs this a direct replacement?Yes you will be able to use the LP722 in plave of the SP50. The wiring configuration will be the same, but at the Sunvic backplate you will see a short link wire betwee Live and terminal 3. please remove this link wire as the LP722 doesn't need it. Other than that all wires remain the same. Can this be used to replace a Honeywell ST6450? ThanksYes, the LP722 will replace your Honeywell and has exactly the same wiring. It may not display this or other websites correctly. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. I was hoping it would be a simple swap over of the UP2 and disconnection of the drayton receiver, but my wiring is a bit convaluted and some of the connections aren't as I was expecting. Can anyone offer some advice on rewiring what I have in the photos. Ideally I'd like to leave the UP2 in-situ to cover up the missing tile as both it and the Drayton receiver have a Hive compatible backplate, but I'm guessing it would be a lot easier to replace the UP2 with the Hive receiver and just disconnect the Drayton one. I have a conventional boiler (glow worm flexicom 18hx) and HW system. Any advice greatfully received.Any other wires already in the terminals must stay in there exactly as they are now. The red wire previously connected to grey in that individual connector goes into terminal 4 on the backplate. The Hive piece fits onto the same backplate that the UP2 did. The Drayton backplate and the mess attached to it are removed. The tiles will need some repair.https://www.investing-in-women.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1629c61a64a3ba---cpi-tr-40-manual.pdfThe valves are usually powered to open and an internal spring to close, so just removing power is good enough for off. Yours is probably a Y plan with a single 3 position valve which requires a HW off to indicate that heating only is required. Some valves were made which required power to both open and close, those would require all 4 terminals. They are rarely found in domestic heating systems. You can create your listing free at DIYnot Local. This programmer controls all hot water and central heating settings on individual days, twice a day and we are very happy with it. Blessings from Maureen and Ian. That said, heating and water can be different across each set of days. I did have one at an old house that could individually select each day so they were available in the past. If it is not I would think that either the wrong wires have been connected to the back plate. There isn't a direct replacement for the Switchmaster 300 that will fit on the same backplate, you could use the Drayton LP711 but as the wiring will need to be altered you will probably be best getting an electrician to fit it for you. There isn't a direct replacement for the Switchmaster 300 that will fit on the same backplate, you could use the Drayton LP711 but as the wiring will need to be altered you will probably be best getting an electrician to fit it for you. I’m sure they are trying to balance transmission power with battery life and polling frequency. I thought it could but they told me no. The prices have stayed fixed at Screwfix so still good value. There doesn’t appear to be an option of buying a hub on its own or bundled with just radiator valves. The cost of the thermostat as an individual item isn’t too different from the cost of 2 radiator valves. There are no fancy screens, menus, buttons etc to push up the costs. Perhaps a future option may include the addition of individual heat sensors either on the Wiser platform or via IFTTT or similar platforms. I have an oil boiler linked to a megaflo hot water tank, two underfloor circuits and a single circuit that serves all 14 radiators. I really like the sound of the Wiser system and with the cost of the rad valves being so much better than than the others, I would like to be able to go down the Wiser route but unsure if it can control the two underfloor heating circuits. Any guidance would be gratefully appreciated Signals from controllers or water temperature in the Megaflo? 3. How is the water pumped around the three circuits. The range extenders also connect in a star network. If they were mesh it might have worked (however, I guesstimate it would take 6-7 to give me whole house coverage), but at the moment they’re not. Over the weekend I put in a 21 TRV, 10 zone Tado system. It’s 60 more expensive than the Wiser would have been (not pricing any Wiser range extenders) but no connection problems and so far it’s working perfectly. Do you think a simple adaptor such as the one here: would work? Display thermostat can thus last far longer on batteries. Retrofit one of the thermostats. I can detect about 40 APs in my area most on 2.4 naturally. I’ve put in two systems, I know it wouldn’t cover my entire house on a star network configuration hence my request on the wish list to enable mesh networking on the range extenders. I helped a friend install a system in his home and it wasn’t a huge area and the signal strength was low on devices only 6 meters from the hub. Is it as simple as enabling mesh networking. I understand their desire to preserve battery life but at least give the customer the option of choosing star network and longer battery life or mesh on reduced battery life. Annual battery changes seems typical on these type of devices and I could live with that. Let’s see what they do. It’s simple just like a traditional TRV. Some of my valves are out of sight so we wouldn’t see the read outs easily. I prefer the lower cost vs the on valve features but other people will have different priorities. The number one issue for Drayton to address is the range and signal strength concerns. They are advising a one week lead time before new stock is available. Demand is greater than supply. They will be putting on the overtime at Drayton! I have used the Drayton MiGenie product for a couple of years, but then previous experience with this product has burnt my fingers. Promises about IFTTT integration and geofencing have failed to materialise. No compatible TRV’s either. It has been as if the MiGenie was a beta test. Don’t expect improved range extenders. What you have now is what you’ll have full stop. This is a problem with Drayton’s servers and not locally, however there is no local system in place. So if their servers go down or they stop supporting the product, you cannot use it. Disappointed that I can’t justify supporting a British company, but then it hasn’t supported its customers. Sigh. It supports local connectivity through WiFi so if the connection between the hub and the cloud is lost, I can still operate the system via my phone when at home. As they have demonstrated that they can integrate a service like Alexa so well, I’m hopeful they can do the same with IFTTT. Tech support were fantastic and the new room thermostat is due tomorrow. I don’t see the value of this and have only just found this out about my heating. I’m thinking the TRV should be on the input feed from the boiler. I’ve seen systems where it’s on the exit flow but how is the TRV effective if closing the valve on the exit and not entry (to stop the flow from the boiler?). Other than that most comments are spot on with the wish list, I did have an issue with setting the schedule as it wouldn’t take but eventually after leaving a minute after changing the setting it took. The body of the valve will have a bi directional arrow on it to indicate this. Best practice is to fit TRV’s on the flow side but I wouldn’t worry about changing them if they are bi-directional and on the return side. If the valve body has an arrow pointing in one direction then it should be on the flow side. If a single direction valve is fitted on the return side then you could get a lot of noise from the valve and poor sealing of the valve seat. Very impressed. Screfix have now received a supply of TRVs, so I’ve now ordered a bunch for all the radiators. Must the supplied room display thermostat be used in a room without any TRV installed. The thermostat is located in the lounge. I ask since I am currently heating the lounge radiator at times of the day when there is no one in it. So a waste of heat. So far it is not finding the devices and I have teh WiserHeat skill installed. I believe you can have a radiator TRV and a room thermostat in the same physical room and the same Wiser room and the room thermostat temperature sensing takes priority over the TRV. If you are stuck try contacting Drayton customer support. Just wondering when we can expect part 2 of your review? Thanks! On the back of this I have just installed a 2 channel Wiser kit in our house. I did do a range check and it appears that the TRVs have a better range than the room thermostat. Looking forward to reading Part 2 next week.
