So I used a screwdriver to pry open - the problem is, no matter how gentle I try, the screwdriver will put significant dent and scratch on the control unit, which made my wife really really pissed. Next, trying to open the back cover of the control unit is Another royal pain: using my fingers it's not possible. So I used a quarter (screwdriver would be too thin) which was also what the Blinds Alley installer recommended. Last, getting the cell batteries out was another pain - not as much but still pain as there is no easy pop-off button or anything.
