It is completely locked out and someone said it was due to dirty oil. I can't seem to find a decent manual but am not afraid to go at this thing blindly.Is there only oil in one side of the fork.And here is a service manual for your fork. Good Luck, Mike The fork does not work now, so if you modify it and it still does not work, you are in the same boat, but if it does work, you just gave it new life for relatively little effort. If it does not work, then you still have to get a new fork. You can call some fork rebuilders and see if they can fix it. More than likely they will want to sell you a new cartridge (if it is available). Good luck, Mike I'd rather spend money on whatever tools I may need and do it myself. Does anyone know what size socket fits the nuts on this fork. I need to buy some thin walled sockets because the ones I have won't fit between the nut and the stanchion. It should have a hose with a threaded metal thing on the end and a gauge.Thanks for answering my questions.Most riders do it by setting sag. When you sit on the bike, the suspension fork sags some. Most riders and suspension companies recommend 15-25 sag depending on what you want out of the fork - more sag for DH, less for XC. I think people use less for dirt jumping too, but it's not really my thing. If the fork has any kind of compression damper or lockout, set it on fully open and let the pressure out. Push the fork all the way into its travel. That's how much travel your fork has. It's probably within a few mm of what it's rated as having; if it's drastically different, you may have a problem. That's how much travel you have. Now pump it up some of the way, put a zip tie on the stanchion right next to the seal, and sit on the bike. Get off the bike. If the zip tie traveled up by more than 25 of your fork's travel, the pressure's too low. If it didn't sag much, it's too high. Once you've got it roughed in, set your dampers back to how you like them and take your shock pump with you on a few rides. If the ride's too harsh, you can try letting out some air. If it bottoms out a lot, try adding some air. I like my fork at the lowest pressure that doesn't bottom out or nosedive. Things can range from short-travel 80mm forks designed for cross-country riding right up to big-hit ready 200mm forks aimed at the gravity addict. All bike frames are designed with a set of geometry which works for their designed purpose. Increasing or decreasing suspension travel can dramatically alter the height of the front end of your bike and it’s head angle. Not only can this negatively affect the handling of your bike but it can also place unwanted strain on the head tube and, in the worst case scenario, threaten frame integrity. As the name suggests, these are adjustable within a defined range of travel (typically from 120mm to 160mm). Riders can opt for short-travel settings and the resulting steeper frame angles to winch their way up climbs, and then wind out the forks to full travel to tackle descents. But again, it’s best to consult the manufacturers recommendations and often, if you don’t think you’ll use it, it might be worth going for a more affordable option. You can also get fancy low-friction stanchion coatings and lock-out levers to lock the fork’s travel in place. But more than that, when it comes to suspension, more money often equates to increased adjustability. In short, more knobs and clickers with which to dial in your preferred suspension characteristics. Some forks also have the aforementioned travel adjust feature which lets you fine tune their travel and ride heights too. Most quality manufacturers offer online guides or even smartphone apps to help get the most out of your set up. Although down in travel, these forks often utilise exotic materials and advanced manufacturing techniques to keep weight to a minimum. Many forks in this bracket will now feature internal spacer systems which allow the home mechanic an easy way to custom tune their performance. Compared to it’s metal competitors, carbon fibre is great at shock absorption which can make your bike a more comfortable place to be on longer rides. This is a good idea, as hard impacts may cause damage to carbon fibre that is invisible to the naked eye but which could lead to failure down the line. The type of road fork you choose will depend on your bike type and the type of riding you wish to do, as well as on additional factors including steerer tube size. Typically, this takes the form of greater weight savings, aggressive aerodynamic design and a full-carbon fibre construction. It also comes at a price. Additionally, many older bikes featured a narrower 1” head tube requiring a threaded steerer, so if you’re renovating a classic steel steed you will need a fork that fits. It’s worth checking that your new fork can offer enough clearance if you intend to run said voluminous rubber.
