0 out of 5 stars I've bought a point and shoot digital HP PW 460T camera, monopod, and head, extra batteries, memory cards, and a bunch of other stuff that goes with this equipment. This is my second book relating to photography. The first book is on editing. This book is all about digital photography and how to use your camera to get great pictures. This author, David Pogue is an award winning author and has written books on many subjects and this book is a very good book in my opinion. I'm also taking a online micro free photography tutorials with free tips and tricks. This is where this book comes into it's own. I've also bought a dvd on the introduction to photography. Being a newbie, I wanted to learn as much as possible to be able to use the equipment in the true manner in which it was meant to be used. This book will certainly help me get there. I should point out that this book is used and it shipped from my own home town. Thanks, RandyHe constantly comes up with tips to make everything about digital photography more fun and efficient. Writing with a sense of humor makes the book very readable and the pictures makes it easy to see just what he means. This is a very interesting, comprehensive read and highly recommended. I'd read it before buying a new camera.I have purchased many of t he Missing Manual Series by David Pogue and have always been pleased. Each one is very comprehensive with an excellent index to help you find the areas you are most interested in.I am a technologically perplexed middle aged man who never understood the digital lingo. Never had a problem taking good film pics, but now I do. And this book explains so much that I had been wondering about (histograms, RAW vs. JPEG, ISO, the list is quite long) so extremely well that I understand it. I haven't yet had an opportunity to put this new knowledge to the test to see whether I get better pics, but I can't imagine that it won't have some positive effect. Highly recommended.http://cephedanismani.com/images/pages/brother-fax-2820-instruction-manual.xmlHis examples and definitions are well laid out and easily understood. My understanding has been increased tremendously even after reading 4 or 5 other books about digital photography. I am comfortable with this gentleman's word without checking behind him. I not only trust his confidence, but now, mine as well. Thanks, David Pogue Jim Fletcher Acworth, GAAs is Amazon's book service. Richard MillerThis book is a must for the beginner and also has enough info in it that anyone can pick up a hint or trick to make their photos better. This like them is written with humour but in a way that makes sense. He doesn't use complex ideas or use jargon words without making them absolutely clear. It is a book that can be read cover to cover or can be dipped in as the mood or requirement takes you. Since starting this book I have been Googling, following his advice, to obtain further information and it works. I now know much more about the important system details of my cameras. I now know much more about the various menu options that I found daunting at first view. As good as the manufacturer's manuals are they are still mainly written by people who know what the details mean and who don't necessarily explain in simple terms to people who are not using these ideas regularly. What David Pogue seems to do is demystify the instructions in a friendly but informed manner. He prioritises what is important to know to get good pictures. Well done David, keep on producing the missing manuals. So I bought a book. I couldn't really understand it, so I bought another. Same problem. Then someone recommended David Pogue's book. At last! Someone who understands how to explain aperture, shutter speed, F stops and ISO settings to someone who knows absolutely nothing about photography geek-speak. I learned more in two chapters of this book than in two other dedicated Learn Photography style books, which have now gone off to the charity shop. My favourite chapter is the how-to-do-this-effect chapter.http://www.diamondsinthemaking.com/content/3m-ma100mb-manual Genius! Well recommended. You've got two choices. (A) buy a bookshelf - buy maybe 20 or 30 books - spend a whole lot of time looking for stuff. OR (B) Buy this book. Thats all!Clear and concise, David Pogue is regaining my confidence with digital photography. The 13-digit and 10-digit formats both work. Please try again. Please try again. Please try again. Mr. Donald Robinson 5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best for learning that I,ve read. The Missing Manual series is a must for all. Simple to understand. Makes it simple to apply. Great series of books, worth every penny. Compared with other manuals I have read recently, this series is way out in front by far. Recommended to others wholeheartedly. These are a very welcome addition to my bookshelf of learning matter. And it does have some great tips - even for the intermediate photographer.http://lookupagency.es/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/16286659769d0f---C47h-manual.pdf But this is really a book for someone who has never used a digital camera before or who has never taken the time to understand their camera's features. It also spends a lot of space discussing several specific photo management software programs (EasyShare, Picasa, Elements), as well as some common on-line photo sharing sites. If you're new to this art then this book will be a great start. But if you're already familiar with your camera and with digital photo editing and on-line sharing, you probably won't get much new out of this. Plus, if you don't plan on obtaining the specific software the authors discuss, at least half the book will be of no use to you.David Pogue does a great job with this series. This title complements the list of books in the series. Digital Photography teaches the reader how to take digital pictures that will stun their friends with all the humor from earlier classics. It teaches the reader about the various buttons all over the camera and how to use them. Using simple tricks provided by the authors, removing the dreadful read eye, cropping, adding colors and other effects that will enhance your prizes. Pogue and the authors leave no stone unturned and anyone interested in this subject should buy and place this title in a safe place and buy other Missing Manual titles. The review copy I got was a 2006 version, but it still holds true to form. The rest of the book is about moving your photos to the PC, editing them, and sharing them via printing, email, or even coffee mugs. The question is, how do I know whether or not my camera even has a portrait mode. This is not the vague type of instruction I am accustomed to when dealing with the Missing Manual series. Outside of my general frustration with part one, though, the rest of the book is quite good.BANGLENHOSPITAL.COM/UserFiles/File/colonization-sid-meier-manual.pdf That is because the author now has a limited set of software packages to work with as far as instructions go, and here we get back into the high quality specific Missing Manual instructions that are so familiar. The author talks about specific aspects of using Easyshare, Picasa, Shutterfly, Snapfish, Flickr, and Photoshop Elements for organizing, editing, and sharing your photos with good comparisons of the different software packages and specific instructions for each. Overall, I recommend this book. Just realize that the part on photography itself is somewhat vague. I notice that the table of contents are not shown, so I do that below: Part One: DIGITAL CAMERA BASICS Chapter 1. DIGITAL CAMERA BASICS Point-and-Shoot or Single Lens Reflex. To see what your friends thought of this book,This book is not yet featured on Listopia. It covers often-overlooked topics like important features to look for when buying a digital camera, reducing blur, composing shots and many others. The downside of the book for me was that the author attempts to cover both SLR's and point and shoot cameras. He even dedicates a separate chapter It covers often-overlooked topics like important features to look for when buying a digital camera, reducing blur, composing shots and many others. The downside of the book for me was that the author attempts to cover both SLR's and point and shoot cameras. I found it unnecessary and awkward as many techniques (trailing car lights, lightning, star-trails shot, exploding zoom, etc.) require an SLR. He even dedicates a separate chapter to SLR's. The best chapter of the book covers specific shooting techniques. Some of the pictures representing those techniques are not very good in showing that technique but that wasn't a big deal. In continuing with his theme of been an all-in-one type of book the author presents iPhoto alongside Picasa tutorials, which is confusing and unnecessary. The book was published in early 2009. Small issues mentioned notwithstanding I found the book to be a good wealth of useful information and a solid introduction. It's worth the purchase for amadour phtographers like me, because it explains the basics on purchasing a simple, cheap camera and how to make the best of your photos with it. I really liked it and I'm constantly consulting the book for better results. Pogue demystifies the world of digital cameras just enough for a point-and-shoot, snapshot photographer (like me) to appreciate. Recommended for someone who's always disappointed with their photos or who wants to add a little technique before a vacation. Recommended for those who may be new to digital photography, it really does expand on what your camera manual says and gives good tips along the way. Still some solid advice and great tips. Your feedback helps us make Walmart shopping better for millions of customers. Sorry. We’re having technical issues, but we’ll be back in a flash. Done. Digital photography. The connection to computing is still there, of course, since, in this case, digital photography involves interaction with computers for manipulating the images and with online services for printing, managing and sharing. The technical detail reveals one of the problems of any text in this area: the technology leaps ahead faster than one can keep up with (and certainly faster than one I afford to change my camera): so, in the list of resolution and maximum print size, the range goes up only to 8 megapixels (giving a maximum print size of 16 x 22 inches, i.e., a small poster!), whereas there are now two or three 10 megapixel 'pro-am' cameras available. There's also a sense of humour evident; for example, this on the RAW format: This covers transferring the pictures also, and includes a section on scanning in prints. Inevitably, in this section, there is a possibility that the software referred to will not be available to you, but the principles are solid and should enable you to use whatever software you wish for file organization. Use of the My Pictures folder in Windows XP is dealt with as are Kodak's EasyShare and. Google's Picassa. I use the latter all the time and wouldn't be without it: when I first set it up on my machine (even before Google bought it) it found pictures in places that I had completely forgotten about.
