Welcome to the ECE 111 lab manual ! Most of the projects in this lab manual.Experiments in Digital Fundamentals, a laboratory manual by David.Figure 10 depicts the function generator in lab. Figure 10: HP33120A Function Generator. In this tutorial, we’re going to give you a brief overview of common electronic components and explain what their functions are. You will then learn about schematic diagrams and how they are used to design and build circuits.http://www.jhannahs.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/16285ebe14272e---C2-vts-owners-manual.pdf And finally, you will put this information to use by creating your first basic circuit. The work area doesn’t need to be fancy and you could even build your own electronic workbench. The most popular option is to use clear plastic storage boxes for storing parts. In addition, you could use plastic storage bins that hang from a rack or fit on a shelf. This isn’t a complete list but it does highlight the most common items used in electronics. These boards contain holes for inserting wire and components. Because of their temporary nature, they allow you to create circuits without soldering. The holes in a breadboard are connected in rows both horizontally and vertically as shown below. It’s a great for troubleshooting circuits and is capable of measuring both AC and DC voltage. Check out this post for more info on how to use a multimeter. The advantage of these over normal screwdrivers is the precision tips of each driver. These are very handy when working with electronics that contain tiny screws. This is where the helping hand (3rd hand) comes in. Great for holding circuit boards or wire when soldering or tinning. Heat shrink has been called the duct tape of electronics and comes in handy in a wide variety of applications. Jumper wires can have male or female ends depending on how they need to be used. To do this, a soldering iron is the tool you would use. Of course a soldering iron isn’t any good unless you have solder to go with it. You can choose leaded or lead-free solder in a few diameters. Below is a quick breakdown of the most common components and functions they perform. Their basic function is to interrupt electric current by turning a circuit on or off. The amount of resistance that a resistor offers is measured in Ohms. Most resistors have colored stripes on the outside and this code will tell you it’s value of resistance. You can use a multimeter or Digikey’s resistor color code calculator to determine the value of a resistor.www.daynapidhoresky.com/ckfinder/userfiles/files/96-ford-probe-manual-window-regulator.pdf These components can be found in devices such as a light dimmer or volume control for a radio. When you turn the shaft of a potentiometer the resistance changes in the circuit. The resistance in the circuit changes with the intensity of the light. These are often found in exterior lights that automatically turn on at dusk and off at dawn. A capacitor is like a rechargeable battery and can be charged and then discharged. The value is measured in F (Farad), nano Farad (nF) or pico Farad (pF) range. The diode’s primary role is to route electricity from taking an unwanted path within the circuit. The main difference is an LED will emit light when electricity flows through it. Inside an LED there is an anode and cathode. The longer leg of the LED is the positive (anode) side. In addition to being a switch, it can also be used to amplify electronic signals. A transistor is similar to a relay except with no moving parts. Inside a relay is an electromagnet which controls a mechanical switch. This circuit contains electronic components like resistors and capacitors but on a much smaller scale. Integrated circuits come in different variations such as 555 timers, voltage regulators, microcontrollers and many more. Each pin on an IC is unique in terms of it’s function. A closed circuit is like a circle because it starts and ends at the same point forming a complete loop.As shown below, a switch in a circuit can cause it to be open or closed depending on it’s position. These elements are a voltage source, conductive path and a load. In addition, there needs to be a conductive path that provides a route for the electricity to flow. Finally, a proper circuit needs a load that consumes the power. The load in the above circuit is the light bulb. These diagrams use symbols to illustrate what electronic components are used and where they’re placed in the circuit. These symbols are graphic representations of the actual electronic components.http://www.hotel-margherita.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/16285ebf40d9e5---C2-01-manual.pdf It contains symbols for an LED, resistor, battery and a switch. By following a schematic diagram, you are able to know which components to use and where to put them. These schematics are extremely helpful for beginners when first learning circuits. Below are a few of the most commonly used electronic symbols in the US. To find the resistor value, you need to know the voltage and the amps for your LED and battery. Next, you need to find out what voltage your battery is. In this example, we will be using a 9V battery. In order to determine the resistor size, we need to use a formula known as Ohm’s law as shown below. This will give you a voltage of 7 which needs to be divided by.02 amps from the LED. This formula shows that you will need a 350 ? resistor. This project is a great starter project for beginners. We will be using test leads to create a temporary circuit without having to solder it together. These boards are essential for testing and prototyping circuits because no soldering is needed. Components and wires are pushed into the holes to form a temporary circuit. Because it’s not permanent, you can experiment and make changes until the desired outcome is reached. The middle rows run vertically as shown while the exterior columns are connected horizontally. These exterior columns are called power rails and are used to receive and provide power to the board. One of the easiest way is to plug the wires from a battery holder into the power rails. This will supply voltage to the rail it’s plugged into only. This circuit is the exact same one we did earlier but we won’t be using the test leads. All components are connected to each other in a circle just like when we used the test leads. For an in-depth tutorial on soldering electronics, view our post How To Solder for a complete step-by-step guide. Below is a list of our favorite places to shop for electronics.http://bubblesoflove.net/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/16285ec2baeec6---C1reportdesigner-manual.pdf We truly believe that adding a makerspace to a school or library can help students acquire the skills needed for the 21st century.www.dayiprofil.com/upload/files/96-ford-mustang-gt-owners-manual.pdf A new generation of applications ( middleware ) is being developed as a result of standardization and availability of low cost computer telephony links.Since the late 20th century, a digital core network has replaced the traditional analog transmission and signaling systems, and much of the access network has also been digitized.Digital telephony has since dramatically improved the capacity, quality and cost of the network. Digitization allows wideband voice on the same channel, with improved quality of a wider analog voice channel.A solution to this issue was linear predictive coding (LPC), a speech coding data compression algorithm that was first proposed by Fumitada Itakura of Nagoya University and Shuzo Saito of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) in 1966.Although analog carrier systems existed that multiplexed multiple analog voice channels onto a single transmission medium, digital transmission allowed lower cost and more channels multiplexed on the transmission medium. Today the end instrument often remains analog but the analog signals are typically converted to digital signals at the serving area interface (SAI), central office (CO), or other aggregation point. Digital loop carriers (DLC) and fiber to the x place the digital network ever closer to the customer premises, relegating the analog local loop to legacy status.Telephony now includes the technologies of Internet services and mobile communication, including video conferencing.Unlike traditional phone service, IP telephony service is relatively unregulated by government.Internet telephony is commonly known as voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), reflecting the principle, but it has been referred with many other terms. VoIP has proven to be a disruptive technology that is rapidly replacing traditional telephone infrastructure technologies. As of January 2005, up to 10 of telephone subscribers in Japan and South Korea have switched to this digital telephone service. In addition to replacing plain old telephone service (POTS), IP telephony services compete with mobile phone services by offering free or lower cost connections via WiFi hotspots. VoIP is also used on private networks which may or may not have a connection to the global telephone network.Video telephony restores such interactions to varying degrees. Social Context Cues Theory is a model to measure the success of different types of communication in maintaining the non-verbal cues present in face-to-face interactions. The research examines many different cues, such as the physical context, different facial expressions, body movements, tone of voice, touch and smell. The communicating parties are not able to identify the body movements, and lack touch and smell.Instead, it is a gesture which maintains the social network between family and friends. Although there is a loss of certain social cues through telephones, mobile phones bring new forms of expression of different cues that are understood by different audiences. New language additives attempt to compensate for the inherent lack of non-physical interaction. This theory concludes that people use media or a resource to attain certain goals.IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. pp. 59-70 (65-7). The new TBDEM consists of the best available multi-source topographic and bathymetric elevation data for the onshore and offshore areas in Central California. The Central California TBDEM integrates 70 different topographic and bathymetric data sources including LiDAR point clouds, hydrographic surveys, single-beam acoustic surveys, and multi-beam acoustic surveys obtained from USGS, NOAA, and USACE. The topographic and bathymetric surveys were sorted and prioritized based on survey date, accuracy, spatial distribution, and point density to develop a model based on the best available elevation data. Because bathymetric data are typically referenced to tidal datums (such as Mean High Water or Mean Low Water), all tidally-referenced heights were transformed into orthometric heights that are normally used for mapping elevation on land (based on the North American Vertical Datum of 1988). The spatial resolution is 1-meter with the general location ranging from Point Conception to the Golden Gate Bridge, and extending offshore to a depth of at least 15 meters. The overall temporal range of the input topography and bathymetry is 1929 to 2017. The topography surveys are from 2008-2015. The majority of the bathymetry is from 1996-2011. Some of the nearshore void zone (not covered by lidar or multibeam) was filled with NOS surveys dating back as far as 1929. CoNED Project TBDEM elevation model development is focused in select regions around the U.S. Coast, such as in the Northern Gulf of Mexico (NGOM), the Hurricane Sandy Region, the California Coast Region, the Pacific Northwest, and the North Slope of Alaska. CoNED Project topobathymetric digital elevation models (TBDEM) provide a required seamless elevation product for several science application studies such as shoreline delineation, coastal inundation mapping, sediment-transport, sea-level rise, storm surge models, tsunami impact assessment, and also to analyze the impact of various climate change scenarios on coastal regions. The raster elevation topobathymetric elevation product, the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata, and the spatially referenced metadata are contained in the downloadable bundle. Spatially referenced metadata are contained within an ESRI geodatabase that contains footprints for each of the input source areas. Depending on the acquisition technique, different spatial resolutions and qualities are achieved. However, there is a lack of studies that investigate the sensitivity of snow avalanche simulation algorithms to the quality and resolution of DEMs. Here, we perform calculations using the numerical avalance dynamics model RAMMS, varying the quality and spatial resolution of the underlying DEMs, while holding the simulation parameters constant. We study both channelized and open-terrain avalanche tracks with variable roughness. Although a spatial resolution of ? 25m is sufficient for large-scale avalanche modeling, the DEM datasets must be checked carefully for anomalies and artifacts before using them for dynamics calculations.
