Still a bit heavy for continuous use but big improvement on the display. Would definitely recommend it. It's the best measuring wheel I've come across but it has a few small flaws. All in all, it's great tool. Way faster than lifting a wheel to reset a manual counter, and much easier to read than an axle-mounted display. Much easier to use and more user-friendly than non-digital wheels. Would highly recommend it. The best on the market and very durable, well made. Spring-loaded kickstand is nice. Would highly recommend it. The Digi Plus III is much better than any of the other wheels I've seen or worked with. Would definitely recommend it. Nice to just switch units. Excellent durability, well-built and the features are easy to use and understand. Much better kickstand. Wonderful tool to use if you have lots of measurements and areas to measure and figure. Since its digital there should be a number pad on it that allows you to punch in the starting number that you could take off from. 3. It allows you to save a measurement but it won't let you pull up the number and then start forward from there. 4. If you let it sit to long it deletes the footage you are on so no lunch breaks during a route. This thing is tough as I have dropped it on to rocks, concrete, and asphalt without any damage. It does count backwards. Just for the price they could have added a few more features to truly make it the best on the market.This product has neither of those problems. More calculation features than I need, so I have to be careful not to inadvertently press some buttons. The VR ef pin (pin 14) is not used on this module. Fo r compatibilit y with other XB ee modules, we recommend connectin g this pin to a v oltage reference if analog sampling is de sired. Otherwi se, connect to GND. Board Layout XBee modules do not have any sp ecific sens itivity to nearby processors, crystals or other PCB components. Other than mechanical considerations, no special PCB plac ement is required for integr ating XBee radios except for those with integral antennas. In ge neral, P ower and GND traces should be thicker than signal traces and be able to comfortably s upport the maximum currents. The radios are also designed to be self sufficient and work with the inte grated and external antennas without the need for additional ground planes on th e host PCB. However, conside rations should be taken on the ch oice of antenna and antenna location. Metal objects that are near an antenna cause refl ections and ma y reduce the ability for an antenna to efficiently ra diate. Using an integral antenna (like a wire whip antenna) in an enclosed metal box will greatly reduce the range of a r adio. For th is type of application an external anten na would be a better choice. External antennas should be position ed away from metal objects as mu ch as possible. Metal obje cts next to the antenna or between transmitting and receiving antennas can often block or reduce the transmission distance. Some obje cts that are often ov erlooked are metal pol es, metal studs or beams in st ructures, concrete (it is usually rei nforced wi th me tal rods), me tal enclosure s, vehi cles, elev ators, ventilation du cts, refrigerators and microwa ve ovens. I t should reside abov e or away from any metal o bjects like batteries, tall electrolytic capacitors or metal enclosures. If the antenna is bent t o fit into a tight space, it should be bent so that as much of the antenna as possible is away from metal. Caution should be used when be nding the antenna, sinc e this will weaken the solder joint where the antenna c onnects to the module. Antenna elements radiate perpendic ular to the direction they point. Thus a vertical ante nna emits across the horizon. Chip Antennas should not have any ground planes or me tal objects above or belo w th e module at the antenna location. F or best results the module should be in a plasti c enclosure, instead of metal one. It should be placed at the edge of the PCB to which it is mounted. Th e ground, power and signal planes should be vacant immediately below the antenna section (See drawing fo r recommended keepout area). Module Operation for Programmable Variant The S2B modules t hat have the progra mmable option populated have a secondary processor with 32k of flash an d 2 k of R A M. T h i s al l o w s m o d u le i n t eg r at o r s t o p u t c u s t om c o d e o n t h e XB E E mo d u l e to f i t t h e i r o w n un i q u e needs. The DIN, DOUT, R TS, CTS, and RESET lines are inte rcepted by the secondary proc essor to al low it to be in control of the data transmitted and received. All o ther lines are in parall el and can be controlled by either the EM250 or the MC9S08QE micro (see Block Diagr am for details). The EM250 by default has control of certain lines. These lines can be released by the EM 250 by sending the proper command(s) to disable the desired DIO line(s) (see XB EE Command Reference T ables). In order for the secondary processor to sample with ADCs, the XBEE pin 14 (VREF) needs to be conne cted to a reference voltage. Digi provides a bootloader that can tak e care of prog ramming the processor o ver the air or through the serial interface. This means that over the air updates can be supported through an XM ODEM protocol. The processor can also be programmed and debugged throug h a one wire interfa ce BKG D (Pin 8). Through its serial port, the module can communicate with any logic and voltage compatible UART; or through a level translator to any serial device (for exam ple: through a RS-232 or USB interface board). UART Data Flow Devices that have a UAR T interface can connect directly t o the pins of the RF modu le as shown in the figure below. System ? Data ? Flow ? Diagram ? in ? a ? (Low ? asserted ? signals ? di stinguished ? with ? horizon tal ? line ? over ? signal ? name. ) Serial Data Data enters the module UART through the DIN (pin 3) as an asynchronous serial signal. The signal should idle high when no data is being transmitted. Each data byte consists of a start bi t (low), 8 data bits (least significan t bit firs t) and a stop bit (high). The following figure illustr ates the serial bit pattern of data passing through the module. The UART baud r ate, parity, and stop bits settings on the XBee modu le can be configured wit h the BD, NB, and SB commands respecti vely. See t he command table in ch apter 10 for details. Serial Buffers The XBee modules maint ain smal l buffers to collect received serial and RF data, which is illustrat ed in the figure below. The serial receive buffe r collects incoming serial characters and holds them until th ey can be processed. The serial transmit buffer col lects da ta that is received via the R F link th at will be transmitted out the UAR T. DIN (data in) DIN (data in) DOUT ( data out) DOUT (data out). Un der certain condition s, the module ma y not be able to process data in the serial receive buffer im mediately. If large amounts of serial data are sent to the module, CTS flow control may be required to av oid ov erflowing the seri al receive buffer. Cases in which the serial receive buffer may become full and possibly overflow: 1. If th e m od ul e is re ce i vi ng a co nt in u ou s s tr e am of R F d at a, th e da ta in t he se ri al r ec ei ve bu f fe r will not be transmitted un til the module is no longer rec eiving RF data. 2. If the module is tr a nsmitting an RF data packet, the module may need to discover t he desti- nation address or es tabli sh a route to the desti nation. After transmitting the data, the module may nee d t o re tran sm it t he dat a if an ack no wle dg men t is no t re cei ved, o r if th e tra nsm is sio n is a b roa d- cast. These issues could dela y the processing of data in the serial receive buffer. Serial Transmit Buffer When RF data is re ceived, the data is moved in to th e serial tr ansmit buffer and sent out the UAR T. If the serial transmit buffer becomes full en ough such that all data in a received RF packet won’t fit in the serial transmit buffer, th e entire R F data packet is dropped. Cases in which the serial transmit buff er may become full resulting in dropped RF packets 1. If the RF data rate is set higher than th e interface data rate of the module, the module could receive data faster than it ca n send the data to the ho st. 2.
