I'm most excited about the fact that this carafe doesn't dribble. My old coffee pots always dribbled when I would pour out of the pot. This one pours exactly where I pour it. No coffee down the side of my cup or water on my counter tops!! The coffee brews fairly fast and tastes great. It also brews at a hotter temperature than my old ones which is great!! Maybe mine were just way too old. I'm only 25 years old but I didn't want a programmable latte foam expresso bean grinding mess. Just wanted this machine to brew coffee and it does exactly that. Just a few notes. The longer you leave it on the hotter the coffee gets. I've burnt my mouth after going back for a second cup after like 45 mins. The coffee wasn't scorched tasting but definitely hot. So be careful. I have not had any problems with the spring but I read other people did. Also this coffee maker is so pretty. Glossy clean round pretty machine. We have really hard water and the mineral buildup clogged this coffee maker. If you descale is regularly which I didn’t, you should be fine. After taking a shower this morning, I smelled smoke in my house, I ran downstairs, dark gray smoke (not steam) was coming out of the large cord hole on the lower backside of the machine. I quickly unplugged the machine and the smoke stopped (meaning this smoldering smoke was electrical in nature) and then ran the machine straight out to my backyard. I am so fortunate that I caught this in time, because if it was unattended and plugged in, it would have gone on fire. I will no longer use this machine, but will keep this unit on hand for a little while in case the Mr. Coffee Company or Amazon would like to pick up this particular Coffee Maker to inspect what may have led to this.Our last coffee maker gave out, and it like several before it did not last long, we had paid a lot for them and never needed or used half the extras. Mr. Coffee has always been a pretty good brand I've found, and this coffee pot does what you'd expect a reasonably priced coffee maker to do. It works, it's simple to operate, and it makes a good pot of coffee without making a mess on your counter. The coffee maker is very easy to fill up with its flip top design that you pour the water right in. You can see the fill line on the side of it so you can figure out how many cups you want pretty easily. The plastic filter basket where you put your coffee filters swings open and closes tightly. I've used the machine almost daily for three months and haven't had any issues with the filter assembly so far. You can remove the assembly so that it is easy to wash. I've run it through the dishwasher with no trouble. As for filters, I've found that you want to use the basket type over the cone type for these. The cone types tend to make a bit of a mess and you can get grounds everywhere. I've switched to using the Mr. Coffee permanent filter basket style for this coffee maker and it works perfectly for me. No grounds anywhere, easy to pull out and clean up when I take the filter off, and I have run both the filter basket assembly and the permanent filter through my dishwasher on the top rack and have had no issues. The coffee maker also has some basic settings that you can use to time delay a pot of coffee, and I've found that it works as you'd expect. It's pretty easy to program it for this. The coffee maker will shut itself off after two hours or so. There are only a couple minor issues that I have with the maker. First minor issue is that the maker tends to make a few random noises here and there after the pot is brewed that sort of sound like it is still processing coffee. They don't last very long, and it's probably just steam venting off or something, but it does make me wonder a bit about what it is doing. The other minor issue that I have is that there is no warning that the coffee pot is shutting itself off after two hours. As I like to brew a pot in the early morning and drink coffee until around noon or so, I end up having to pay attention to the pot and turn it back on every couple hours or so. Even with my minor complaints, this is a perfectly serviceable inexpensive coffee maker if you are just looking for something cheap to get your morning joe. It doesn't grind beans, doesn't handle k-cups, or make you cappuccino or espresso, but it does make a hot pot of simple black coffee for around 20 bucks and does it consistently. Sometimes old school gets the job done just right. This coffee maker is a good example of that. I recommend it. I just purchased this model because it matched my last one. Thinking I would have an extra carafe if needed and I loved that machine. We also liked the automatic shut off feature. Very disappointed! The machine rocks backwards when filling with water. The filter cup does not come off easily. There are two plastic pins that have to line up to get it in and out. Other reviewers state the pins will eventually break off. The filter cup uses a paper liner or a reusable. We have both, but you still need to be able to remove the cup to clean it. It's a struggle to get it to fit back in after washing. This is a most frustrating way to start my day. Why do we redesign a perfectly good machine and make it worse. I've always liked Mr. COffee, an affordable machine and a great brew. NOT anymore. Two hour auto turn off. Be sure to order a basket style permenant filter with your coffeemaker. It is difficult to wash the filter holder with the glass pot every day because it is hard to remove the machine. Using the basket filter with your paper filter will give you a smooth flavorful cup of coffee with no acid taste. Mr Coffee machines have been the best performers for me. Good price! You can get 1st-degree or 2nd-degree burns dealing with this very cheap pile of junk. You can't take out the hot grounds. You can't take the grounds container off its hinges to empty the grounds, you can't take the grounds out because there is no basket in the coffee grounds container. You have no protection in removing the hot coffee grounds. I got burnt. Now, look at the mess every time you remove the coffee grounds. Since you can't take off the container that holds the grounds by the hinges or by a coffee filter basket the hot coffee grounds will fall on your counter every time you make a stupid pot of coffee. Burned coffee pot no fun. I wanted another Mr. Coffee because I assumed the pot would be the same size. I now have a backup pot. First, unlike my manual one, the filter goes directly into the brewer. The manual one had a removable basket. This means it's a pain to remove the grounds from the pot. It also isn't weighted to stay open. You'll put the filter in and start to scoop coffee, but it will swing close by itself. This means you need to pull it open every time you want to put grounds in.
