Their little trouble-shooting guide said they needed to replace the print head and they wouldn't listen to my explanation that I had already done that. Amazon Customer 4.0 out of 5 stars It prints clean crisp documents. It also offers an alignment feature that allows you to dial it in until it is perfect. It takes a lot of prints to achieve perfect alignment however. Also, it is an old out-of-production printer. For these reasons I would not recommend that the average user purchase this printer. Just keep this in mind before you buy. Another wonderful feature is that the drums are separate from the toner. This means that you get much more life out of those drums and toner replacements are much less expensive than other printers. The toner consumption is modest and the performance is excellent. This machine proves that Dell is serious about competing in the printer business. Mcdonald 5.0 out of 5 stars At the time, this was at the top of the pyramid in their printer line. I needed a modestly priced laser to replace a clunky old HP inkjet multifunction which had long since outgrown it's usefulness. While the toner consumption of that printer was on the high side (I knew this going in based on prior reviews), I was very happy with the functional capability and performance of that one. More recently, an HP 2605 Color Laserjet I owned failed, and I was back in the market for its replacement. Based on the strength of my experience with it's little brother, I decided to try the 2155cdn from Dell. Boy am I glad I did. This is a feature rich printer with reasonably good software and very crisp printing. I am amazed they can produce a printer this good at this price point, and I agree with an earlier comment which said this printer proves that Dell is serious about competing in the printer market. I have only had it a short while so my only remaining question is how robust it will prove to be in the long term. However, given the modest cost of Dell compatible toners (especially as compared to Dell OEM and my previous experience with HP OEM) and the very good acquisition cost, it is virtually a no-brainer. If you are in the market for low to medium duty cycle multifunction color laserjet and had not previously considered Dell, I would strongly urge you to consider this one. A couple of additional notes: 1. The shipping was fast, and the product packaging well thought out. It is heavier and bulkier than more expensive peers. Not a problem for me, but if it is for you, you may want to consider the 1765nfw (or whatever their current little brother version is at the time you read this). The smaller version does pretty much everything this does except duplex printing (it will do manual duplex), but does eat toner pretty fast. Additional Notes: Okay, have had a chance to put it through it's paces. This printer is more than adequate for a home office or small workgroup environment with modest duty cycle. Some features of note. 1. Installation and setup was a snap. In my case as a network install shared among half a dozen client PCs runnign different flavors of Windows. The scanner hangs out over the printout tray and looks like it might be a problem but there is plenty of room to reach in and grab your prints. Secondary sheet feeder in the input tray for feeding envelopes, labels, etc. The construction seems sound with easy access on the side to the toners, and on the front to the fuser, PHD, and paper feed path for clearing jams (I have not had any and have been feeding both light and heavy weight stock through it). 3. The physical control panel is fine and intuitive. Full access to all functions both from the control panel as well as the bundled software utility. 4. Two sleep modes for power savings. Wakeup to first page out from deep sleep in about 30 seconds, much faster when it is not sleeping. 23 ppm rating seems about right but of course is a function of the complexity of the graphics. Duplexer had no problems with a variety of stocks. 5. The print quality itself is excellent. Only 600X600 dpi but for most people that is more than adequate. Color registration is razor sharp and had no issues with any ghosting or other blemishes using OEM toner that it ships with. Have not tried non OEM toner with it yet, although the printer settings include allowance for fine tuning all manner of toner, stock, and color related features. 6. Scanner and scanner feed tray worked flawlessly on a variety of source materials, and the sheet feeder includes the ability to lift up vertically to accommodate scanning from books. It comes bundled with Paperport software. You can configure it to scan your documents directly into paperport, or you can specify the image format you want (PDF, JPG, GIF, multipage TIFF) and then scan directly to email or to a file folder one one of the PCs on the network (or the PC attached to the USB port if that is how you set it up). Again, much flexibility and the ability to configure it for your unique needs and desires. 7. Bundled fax driver works fine for faxing from within programs and office apps. Manual faxing from the hardware control panel likewise works fine and provides a variety of controls and features including built-in cover pages from the firmware. As a test, I asked my 83 year old mother who is not technically inclined at all to see if she could figure out how to send a fax with no direction or instructions. After telling me she didn't have time for that nonsense, she complied and was able to do so without any problem. Then scolded me for wasting her time.:) 8. Fax module will work and play well with a variety of situations ranging from dedicated fax line, in serial with an answering machine, in serial with a PC modem, and also a mode where you can answer the phone yourself and it will go off hook and listen for you to enter a code on your handset which instructs it to switch over to fax receipt. If you have an answering machine, it will listen in on the line when the answering machine picks up and if it hears incoming fax tones it will take over the line and receive the fax. If you have server provided voicemail on your phone line, then the mode where you answer and then enter a code on the handset to go into fax receive is more likely the one for you. The point is, it is flexible enough to cover a wide variety of needs and situations. 9. Integrated directory for saving known destinations. These can be email addresses, fax destinations, FTP server locations, and network file server folders. This directory is well integrated with both the scanner and the fax module, both via the hardware control panel as well as the bundled software utilities. 10. Build in USB port for plugging in thumb drives. You can direct print from the thumb drive, and you can scan directly to the thumb drive. I could go on but you get the point. There is a large amount of configurability and control for a wide variety of situations. It is pretty feature rich for a printer in this class. So, I end where I started. I am very impressed. One final comment. I am a brand-loyal kind of customer. When I find a brand I like, I stick with it until I have a reason to change. For printers, I have long been a fan of HP. But HP is not the company it once was in my opinion, which is partly why I chose to try the Dell option when my old HP 2605 failed. If this printer proves to be robust and durable (the only real question I still have, and only time will tell), then Dell has a new printer customer.Please try again later. Please try again later. I looked through the docs and eventually emailed Dell customer support. Surprisingly, this turned out to be one of the best parts about the whole experience: I contacted a rep named Joey who guided me through a few diagnostics and then shipped a new print-head device (PHD). This came 2nd day and included a return label for the original. I tried the new PHD, and unfortunately, it too had a problem. There are a few oddities--the software disk includes an old-style Windows Help file that is a bit clunky; download the PDF from Dell's support site instead, it's far easier to use. The printer is built like a tank and quite heavy, but everything has the feel of quality---even sliding the paper tray in latches with a solid mechanical feel that inspires confidence. The warmup time is quick, the printing is quite fast, and the output, as my office-buddy will attest, looks fantastic. Bottom line? If you need a solid laser printer that can print color on two sides and does scan and fax, the 2155cdn is a tremendous choice, and Dell blew my mind with the support experience. VP 1.0 out of 5 stars The warranty starts from the date Amazon or 3rd party bought it from Dell. Which is ridiculous because that would not happen with any purchase from Best Buy or Radioshack. Warranties on brand new products should start from consumer's date of purchase. I even got Amazon's customer service with Dell on 3-way call to confirm the date of purchase. Even Amazon's customer service was dumbfounded after making us wait 20 mins to get a rep and then 20 more minutes to have them investigate. Then I spent 2 more hours speaking to 6 Dell more reps without Amazon on the call. Even after one rep said I had to purchase additional warranty their sales department would not let me because the incorrect warranty date was technically ended.
