Dell Inspiron Mini 10 service manuals now online Dell started taking orders for its new 10 inch netbook this week, but the product isn’t expected to begin shipping for another month or so. Right now the Inspiron Mini 10 is only available with your standard netbook specs including a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 576 pixel display, 160G hard drive, and 1GB of RAM and Windows XP. It does buck the trend by offering a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 or 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 CPU instead of the usual Atom N270 or N280 processors. But what really makes this netbook exciting are the options that dell has yet to offer, including a higher resolution display and an optional TV tuner. The service manual confirms that some of the things are on the way. For instance, there are instructions for removing the optional TV tuner, and detailed information about Ubuntu Linux, which points to the fact that Dell will soon offer a Linux option. The netbook also has space for two separate wireless cards: 1 for WiFi, and another for 3G mobile broadband. And the touchpad supports multi-touch gestures. It looks like most upgrades or repairs will be performed by lifting the keyboard, rather than through access panels on the bottom of the netbook like the ones on the Inspiron Mini 9. thanks pkiyono! I’m a writer, need to have the Adobe sofware running, and I can’t scroll down far enough to punch the “Accept” button. For al practical purposes my new Dell is useless since I can’t get at things on the screen that I need to access. How do I adjust the size of the whole screen, not just icons or fonts? P.ease. Thanks. However, based on the pictures in the manual, the RAM is soldered to the daughterboard; it appears as there is very little clearance around the part of the Mini 10 interior (there appears to be a shield mounted over the daughterboard) and I’m guessing that the upgrade will have to come from Dell. As I understand it, the Poulsbo chipset, which is used with the Atom Z series processors, originally supported only one GB of RAM, probably because this combination was intended to be used with the smaller MIDs rather than netbooks. Then in Dec 08, Intel changed the Poulsbo spec to support 2GB RAM. The delay in releasing units with 2GB might have something to do with the supply of new Poulsbo chipsets. If the chipset happens to be one that supports only one GB, then it doesn’t make much difference if it’s soldered in or not (unless the RAM fails or you want to try a better type), but I still don’t like the idea of it. Edit: Actually it makes a lot of difference if your RAM is soldered or not, because, if your RAM goes bad, you have to replace the whole RAM and processor board, which I’m sure would be costly. If anyone has more complete or accurate information, I hope they’ll chime in. Comments are closed. Post was not sent - check your email addresses. Email check failed, please try again. It uses the Poulsbo chipset. It can be customized with GPS or integrated TV tuner. The service manual displays two full-height MiniPCI-E internal slots, and one half-height. It is unclear whether the connectors are all in place, but the manual shows one full-height TV tuner in place.Provided with a driver from Elantech, it can be used for scrolling, 3 button operation, dragging, resizing, rotating pictures and system shortcuts as Start Menu and Explorer (on Windows), browser back and forward, minimizing and maximizing windows, window switching, desktop showing and hiding, and running custom commands. The HDMI port is also replaced with a standard VGA connector. The Mini 10v has since been discontinued. At the Input Devices tab of the app, set the front left channel to 90 and the front right channel to 10. Sound Capturing should now work with Skype. You must also be sure to untick the box 'allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels'. Not doing so will cause these settings to be reset. Brightness control doesn't work properly. Pressing Fn-F5 or Fn-F6 changes the brightness randomly. To get best support for hotkeys, update your BIOS to the latest version then add some kernel parameters to the grub config. Multi touch pad doesn't work out of the box. Probably the same with all synaptics touchpads in all laptops (they work like a normal touch pad) The emulation approach works with 1005p. With it you get 2-finger scrolling, and 2-finger right-click working. Zooming and rotating with 2 fingers wont work with the emulation approach. Hard disk makes frequent clicking noise when using battery power Workaround is to disable Advanced Power Management on the hard disk. The microphone issue as known from other Eee PCs is present ( ). To fix, open a terminal and type 'sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic'. The mic should then work after a reboot (tested both with the sound recorder app and Skype).Pressing Fn-F5 or Fn-F6 changes the brightness randomly.Multi touch pad doesn't work out of the box. Zooming and rotating with 2 fingers wont work with the emulation approach. Issues: To fix initial keyboard and touchpad problems, update your BIOS. Download the update from the asus homepage or use the preinstalled asus autoupdate windows app (if you haven't already wiped your windows partition ). The microphone issue with the 1005HA seems to be present ( ). The mic should then work after a reboot (at least with the sound recorder app). Sound Capturing should now work with skype.
