Its silver and white colour scheme gives it an almost (whisper it) Mac-like appearance, and its slim, upright chassis gives it the look of a games console. The front panel is very uncluttered, but hit the open button and the top half automatically slides upwards then horizontally along the top of the case to reveal a selection of ports. There are two USB ports, mic and headphone sockets, and an ultra-slim optical drive that was originally designed for laptop use. True to its BTX roots, there's a fan located at the front of the case that draws cool air over the processor and motherboard chipset in a very efficient manner. It's just 310mm high, 91mm wide and 363mm deep, so it's just as happy under a desk as it is taking pride of place next to your monitor. There are vacant PCI Express slots (x16 and x1), but only half-height cards will fit. There's no possibility of adding a second internal drive as there physically isn't room for one, and swapping it for a new one could prove costly, as laptop drives are typically more expensive than their desktop counterparts. This omission is strange in any Media Center PC, but seems even more bizarre considering our review sample comes with a Dell 2405FPW 24-inch widescreen TFT monitor (a ?458 premium on a standard 19-inch flat-panel monitor). Dell doesn't offer a tuner as part of the customisation process, but there is one on their Web site available separately for ?78, although at time of publication it had seemingly disappeared. It runs at a very high native resolution of 1,900x1,200 pixels, and though it can't quite play high-definition movies at 1,080p -- the highest commercial video resolution -- it'll happily run 720p content. It scored a respectable 3,241 in PCMark 2005, which isn't bad for a mid-range small form-factor PC. However, some boards are not able to fully utilize all 4GB of installed RAM due to a major chipset flaw on some boards. Osx installs just fine though and gives no issues aside from the audio and ethernet drivers not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, Vista and 7 require AHCI mode (or is it APCI?) enabled in the BIOS. This feature is often disabled to make Mac OS X work. Did you disable something starting with A in the BIOS (Sorry I don't remember exactly what it's called )? Permissions repair can be done with Disk Utility and you can rebuild the cache using the -f option on boot. Only 1 problem though. If i do NOT boot with -F it goes back to the same problem. Is there a way to always boot with -F? Strange thing is that audio driver doesn't seem to be working. Dell says i have a SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio but i can't seem to get that driver i posted up there to work. Any clues? Maybe you need to repair permissions.
