Others have had the same problem with various Sony 8mm camcorders. The solution is to gently tap the camcorder on top or on its side. That actually worked. Having a viewfinder is invaluable for me since shooting outdoors with a screen is so inefficient, however, having a viewfinder that both extends and focuses to your vision is the best and this camera has it. The only shortcoming is no earphone jack to really get the playback info loud and clear.
