You will need to pinch the tabs on the back to remove the gray cover under the power button. Unplug the black lead from the switch and the white lead (under clear cover) from the lower wire. Then the important part - use a small screwdriver or the same Torx bit and push into the back of the plastic covers, and the bare lead will pull out. You will need the covers off to pull the old cord through the rubber connector. Then thread the new leads and cord through the rubber connector. Snap the leads into the old plastic covers, then reconnect everything and tuck the cord back into the holder. Carefully put the rubber connector and switch back in place, then snap the gray cover and power button back in place. Put the screws back in and go test it out.It worked like a charm. As others mentioned the plastic parts on the ends werent connnected, so I saved the orginal ones and switched it out no problem. Best part was disassembling it, I got to do a massive deep cleaning, which was a bit terrifying to see how much debris was built up in there. Works like new! I'm not sure if it would work on all dyson products, but for my case Im glad I went DIY. There are no instructions, so if you arent used to doing electronic repair maybe leave i t the professionals.I replaced cord because old one was overheating at the plug (typical of broken wires inside the insulation at the plug). Comes complete with clips on the end of wires. Remove the old cord clip insulators using a very small flat screwdriver and reinstall on new cord after passing through the cord retainer on vacuum handle. Clip insulators may not stay on the new clips like they did on the old so just push them into place after connecting clips on start switch and other cable connector.I finally got the wires that go to the switch unplugged from them but couldn’t get the old wires out of the clips. I plugged the wires together and since the connections were next to other plastic I used electrical tape to cover the connections.This item does NOT have the white plastic covering that covers the metal terminal ends. Therefore this power cord is NOT complete. I am so frustrated I now need to buy the white covering parts still or return this cord and buy another that includes it. What a scam! We are led to believe this is all you need to replace the cord. When you take apart the vacuum and detach the terminals you will see the white plastic covering over the terminal of the cord you're replacing. It's impossible to reuse the covering because it's designed to never come off. Now I'm missing that part and can't continue to replace the cord. Horrible!The new cord went on perfectly. You do need to take off the old cords plastic covers for the connectors.It took less than 15 minutes to swap out the old part with this new one. It was very important to get our primary vacuum cleaner back to operational status quickly, and this did the job. Lesson learned for certain family members (unnamed) about proper procedures for walking safely around plugged-in power cord and for unplugging the power cord after use of the vacuum cleaner.;)Take a small screwdriver insert into the old one and pull it off, then slide it onto the new connector.
