In hindsight I should've spent more time looking at what was compatible with my wireless network adapter that's installed on my laptop (intel wireless chipset 4965agn) and started with the pdf manual for the router.Anyway tips and tricks: 1.Bypass the net magic, it is a trial run service that will clog up your startup sequence and slow down your machine's speed. I have since replaced it with a different make and model. I have had similar problems with a DIR-655 and am losing my faith in D-Link. These new RangeBooster routers, including the DIR-628, have extremely fast and powerful wireless systems. My range is easily twice what it used to be, speed is good, and security is better (WEP, WPA, WPA2) than on the older (D-Link) router I replaced. I do not use the dual-band feature, having bought this unit on price. The Setup was easy. D-Link's new router setup wizard is excellent - great for novices and still helpful for the more experienced. Unit worked out of the box and powers a small office. And I can vouch for D-Link's customer service, although I have had no problems with the DIR-628. The DIR-628 is a high-performance, solid product. I'm still a D-Link fan.Ever since I got it, I've had to power cycle it at least once a week. Other than that annoyance, it was working fine until I moved. Now, it reset to factory defaults. So, I guess I'm supposed to wait on the phone to get terrible support from people that know less about routers than I do, and jump through hoops to get a new router? No thanks.
