Below are few guidelines regarding how and why you should collect the product manuals. However, we believe that the manuals should include the most important and needed information about CyberHome 1600, not to discourage the user to read. Obviously, if a device CyberHome 1600 has multiple advanced functions, we will not avoid a high amount of information in this document. Then, it will be much easier to find it than look through the purchase boxes which have already been thrown away by you or any other of household members. It will be enough to clear the drawer once in a year and throw away any manuals of the devices you do not use anymore. Thus, you can avoid storing any unnecessary documents and keep only those which are valid. You can also download and print the manual CyberHome 1600 to place it in your drawer. With the Cyberhome CH-DVR1600, you get all of the recording versatility of a high-end VCR and the convenience of a progressive-scan DVD player. Its built-in editing features allow you to add chapter markers or, if that's too much trouble, can automatically select chapter markers for you. Users can record from TV shows through the built-in tuner or from any video source, thanks to the unit's composite video, S-video, and IEEE 1394 inputs. That means that you could record directly from a cable box or a digital video camera's Firewire port. Like a traditional VCR, more programming will fit on a disc at lower quality record levels. For example, the DVR 1600 will record 6 hours of programming in SLP mode, but much less in SHQ mode. Also like a VCR, the DVR 1600 features live, timer, and scheduled recording functions. The on-screen disc title navigator makes it easy to quickly access your recordings and set up new programs. Full-Function Progressive-Scan Player The DVR 1600 is also a full-function progressive-scan DVD player, supporting the best functions of commercial DVDs, like zoom, slow motion forward, fast-forward, review, frame-by-frame, multi-angle, program play, bookmarks, and parental lock.Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. Emma Shinal 1.0 out of 5 stars This recorder came with the cord to plug it in and that's all. No remote, or way to record from any device. Picture? What picture? I don't know if I will ever buy anything else online. I am absolutely devastated, betrayed, and highly disappointed!I have found the Sony and TDK discs work best. I also concur that the remote is ridiculously undersized, with buttons tiny enough to put a carpal-tunnel specialist's kid through college. If you are transferring from archived DVR files, you have the option of putting in a fresh disc and giving it another shot anyway.I had to apply the Back-End firmware twice for some reason. --- This seems to be a fantastic product. Check out the features at Cyberhome's website. Almost too good to be true. It has the ability to become region-free. It has 2 video source inputs AND has a built in tuner. It has DV input for camcorders. It records in 6 speeds which is great. The unit is very easy to use.How hard is that? Takes 2-3 seconds. Some people have reported problems on various forums with a warbling sound and some hum from the tuner. I have the device sitting on TOP of a TIVO and have none of these problems. Mine is a model 1600MU. I am running the original firmware (100) but there is a firmware upgrade available. The MU's have some additional features over the ZU's, I have heard. Keep in mind, you have to FINALIZE a disk in order to play it on another DVD player, according to the online HELP. There have been some criticisms of the remote control.Unless I am missing something, this is a great machine. I'll report back if long term usage proves otherwise. Now after using it almost daily for the past three months, I think it was well worth the money. However, I did find some problems which I will explain later. First the positives - The recording quality is great. The high quality mode is also nice, but I like to record more than one hour of programming per DVD. The below VHS-like quality of the LP mode has discouraged me from trying the other longer recording modes. I have recorded, deleted, reformatted and then recorded some many shows on those discs and they show no signs of failing soon. My dad just turned 72 and I know he would have a lot of problems with this unit. The documentation is skimpy, and as I noted above, the menus are confusing at first. I would only recommend this product to people who are somewhat tech savvy, unless you want to get a lot of support calls. Remote is too small. Hopefully, your fingers are smaller than mine. This remote is among the tiniest I have encountered and navigating through the menus with these buttons requires some practice and patience. You can probably purchase a larger remote from another manufacturer that might resolve the problem, but Cyberhome should have made this thing larger in the first place. Conclusion - So after using the Cyberhome for a few months, I do like it, feel that I have gotten my money's worth, and give it five stars because if you can figure it out, this product does a lot of great things and yet doesn't cost a lot of money. Still, I don't like the tiny remote and want to find a DVD recorder with a more user-friendly menu system. I have been watching the prices decline for brand name DVD recorders and plan to buy a more expensive unit in the next few months and I will then use the Cyberhome as a second DVD recorder with my Panasonic video camera.
