My wife placed the carafe in the dishwasher for initial cleaning and was burned by scalding hot water when she removed it from the dishwasher. The carafe has a hollow, plastic handle with an opening at the hilt of the handle. She placed the carafe upside down on the upper dishwasher rack as you would place a drinking glass (obviously so that dishwasher water would get up into the carafe and drain out again). That placement made the open end of the hollow handle point upward, so the handle filled up with hot dishwasher water, but it had no way to drain out. Not realizing that the handle was full of hot water, she spilled it on herself, causing a painful burn. If you place the carafe in your dishwasher, be aware that the handle will be full of hot water when you take it out of the dishwasher. In addition to the burn hazard, the coffee maker is aggravating because the instructions say to unplug it when not in use but it only has a one-minute memory hold for the settings. Therefore everything has to be reset each time it is plugged back in for use.Pot Cleaning tip - Over time the inside of the carafe will become discolored from the coffee. Some commercial cleaners will lighten - remove this. I've found the best way is to fill the pot with hot tap water, drop in a dishwasher soap packet (brand doesn't matter), replace the lid and let stand for 6-8 hours. Rinse 2-3X with hot water and your carafe will look BRAND NEW!!It's beginning to look used and the warmer plate has corroided as others have mentioned. I decided to move the black one into our RV where it looks great and purchase the same model in white for our house. I guess the fact that I would purchase the same coffee maker again goes to show how happy I am with it. We always unplug it when we are leaving town for any extended time, and we turn it off before leaving the house in the morning. I feel like that reduces the risk of fire that comes with any coffee maker. I like the fact that Cuisinart uses water filters - if for nothing else but to improve the quality of water and remove the chlorine. I think it probably helps prevent mineral deposits, which helps the coffee maker live longer. It's just a good coffee maker with the features I need, and it makes a great HOT cup of coffee!Very disappointed as it just quit working today. Would have expected to get more than 3 months out of it. Last one lasted maybe 6 years or so. Lights go on but no heating action at all. Don't recommend you buy it. UPDATE: Phoned Cuisinart (in Canada) and they seemed to be very good about resolving the issue. They are sending me a prepaid return label so I can ship it back to them and they will send me a replacement. They didn't argue about it so.Maybe I just got a bad one. If the display still does not show any information but the lights on the machine are on then the display is faulty. If the machine is still not receiving power the cord will need to be replaced. If the coffee still tastes weird the coffee grounds may have expired or you just don't like this type of coffee. If their is no filter in the device or the filter is dirty this is your issue. At the bottom of the holder their is a spring, if this spring is rusted it needs to be replaced. If this didn't fix your issue then the hardware is faulty. I have received a partial refund from Amazon. I will NEVER buy this coffee maker again. One thing is sure. I’m never again going to order such an item from Amazon. Twice it has broken under warranty.
