TommyT 1.0 out of 5 stars However, heat runs continuously. As another reviewer stated mine does the same exact and that it shows 98 degrees room temp and set point 72 with heat running continuously to 85 degrees real temperature indicated by my thermal gun. Also display doesn’t show at all except briefly. The display shouldn’t disappear from this model. I’m one and done and bought another Honeywell model for much less and made in USA instead of this China model. Please understand that I consider it to be an excellent thermostat in the proper circumstance; it's just that the heating system in the house is not that. That system is an oil-fired boiler which provides both hydronic baseboard heating through five heating zones and domestic hot water through a tankless hot-water coil in the boiler. Each heating zone is controlled by a thermostat connected to a 24 volt relay coil in a Honeywell relay switch which, in turn, controls the circulator pump for that zone. In order to insure optimum recovery when the boiler temperature drops low enough to fire the boiler, the boiler control circuit is wired to remove all power from the hydronic heating zones when the boiler fires. That way, the heating load on the boiler is suspended while the boiler is reheating. As I understand it, this arrangement allows the boiler to recover with a smaller oil spray orifice and, therefore, less wasted heat (fuel) going out the exhaust stack. Therein lies the source of the problem in my particular installation. When the boiler control circuit removes all power from the five zone relay switches, the 24 volt control circuits have no power -- no 24 volts to maintain the circuit in the thermostat. When the boiler has recovered to its set temperature and stops firing, the boiler control circuit reapplies power to the hydronic zones and power is restored to the thermostat. However, having likely lost its setting due to the temporary power loss, the thermostat usually has to be reset. What I've described is not an issue during AC season as the domestic hot-water coil has no effect in this matter. Fortunately, only one of these thermostats was installed because I wanted to ensure its compatibility with the heating system before I spent the money for several units. Please note that if you are considering this thermostat for a system that does NOT periodically suspend power to the control circuit that feeds the required 24 volts to the thermostat, there is no reason that I know of that it would provide anything but excellent service. So, how to rate this thermostat. For my purposes, it's one star because I can't give it zero. For someone else's system which maintains control circuit power (I would think that would mean anything but a hydronic system such as mine), I would still recommend this thermostat. It's a classic looking unit with, as a year's experience has proven, a very accurate ambient temperature indicator and a very accurate control circuit. For a different system, then -- five stars. Taking the average of the two scoring scenarios -- three stars! After two weeks it started behaving erratically, losing its set point. I came home one day and the temperature was in the 80's whereas the set point was mid 60's. The heat had obviously been on for quite a while. When I rotated the housing to access the set point it would first not respond at all (blank) and, after a number of tries, show the correct set point for a moment before reverting to a temperature in the high 80's. Even after I opened the windows to lower the room temperature it still responded the same. Therefore, I assume the thermostat was showing a bogus set point in the 80's rather than reading the room temperature. I had to pull the thermostat from the wall to shut off the heat. I see from the reviews that a number of users had a similar problem. I probably should not have taken the chance to buy it but it was exactly what I wanted for a heat only system and some customers did have good luck with it. I called Honeywell and they were useless, trying to come up with all kinds of reasons to put the blame elsewhere than where it belonged. Fortunately I had bought it from Amazon and had no trouble returning it. That kind of service is why I buy so much from them. However it is sad that there are too many poor products on the market and that a company like Honeywell, which used to have a great reputation, will not stand behind their product. I ended up putting up the old thermostat which I had replaced because it wasn't very attractive and it works fine. I guess I am stuck with it. I do have to admit that it was also a Honeywell, apparently a model with better quality control.HVAC systems must be absolutely reliable and run for decades without fault. Honeywell has been around long enough to know and appreciate this.I wont purchase another thermostat on Amazon or anywhere online. Too much risk.It installed fairly easily but right away I had a few problems. The main problem was that this thermostat constantly read way higher than the rooms actual ambient temperature. The zone controls can cause a voltage drop which for whatever reason makes this thermostat call for heat nonstop. The solution is to install the included resistor but the instructions don’t really help if you don’t have the exact components that they use as examples. But it died, won't show the ambient temperature or anything, just a dead thermostat!Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again It is far more accurate than the previous mercury version.Sorry, we failed to record your vote.
