All in all the clutch pedal shit is straight forward, just keep experimenting. You want the rear shifter position W58, same as the MA70 one. Your going to need a pilot bearing and flywheel bolts, use genuine ones. They are cheap. The auto box is a bit of a bitch to get out, not only is it like 70kg the top bellhousing and starter bolts are hard to get to. Just use lots of extensions and drop the motor and gearbox back. Nothing too hard. Your going to have to connect the MA70 front shaft to your center bearing, you have to undo a nut and punch the old one and out and use the MA70 one in its place. Make sure you put it back together in phase.http://clubselectionvoyages.com/images/edius-7-reference-manual.xml

The wiring is easy, just chop off one of the tranny plugs and join two wires to bypass the neutral start. Reverse lights are another two wires. I recommend removing the exhaust, makes things easier but its a pain to put back in on stands but worth it. So yeah, its a pretty straight forward job. I did it on my front lawn over a couple of days then drove 1000km up the coast. They have very similar shifters (although slightly different) but both still come up nicely through the existing shifter hole in the floor of a cressida. You also want the front tailshaft half from one of these cars also. In my opinion (what I wished I had done when converting my MX73) was to buy a whole SA63 or MA70 donor car. The things you'll need if you use SA63 gear are: M series flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, etc. I hope that helps. Learn More What are you looking for. For me, that car is the humble Toyota Cressida. Old, safe and reliable. Not particularly fast either. I distinctly remember a couple of guys at my high school driving beat-up Cressidas and not being terribly excited about them. This was back during the late ’90s and very early 2000s, and if the Cressida did have an enthusiast following I certainly didn’t know about it. Along with that, the car’s resemblance to those cool Toyota sedans sold in Japan gave it plenty of JDM cred. For a long time high quality Cressida builds were few and far between. When he found the Cressida for sale, he knew it was the perfect fit. At the time he also owned a 1991 MR2, and the plan was to have the Cressida as a secondary vehicle to drive. Once he had the motor figured out, Evan knew that he could base the rest of the build around the 2JZ swap. Even a bone-stock 2JZ-GTE makes around double the horsepower that the Cressida’s original engine did, so it’s not surprising that power upgrades have been kept modest and street-friendly for now. Key modifications include an upgraded fuel system, Web Cams camshafts, a Driftmotion intake with an HKS filter, custom Driftmotion exhaust and intercooler setups and a TiAL blow-off valve. They include an aluminum Koyo radiator, Flex-A-Lite radiator fans, a Driftmotion oil cooler, Optima battery and more. The valve cover has been color-matched to the body, the chassis harness has been tucked, the battery tray has been removed and many of the engine parts have been polished for a look reminiscent of Southern California’s famous Honda builds. Driftmotion also supplied the custom aluminum flywheel and driveshaft. Suspension-wise, Evan has fitted the car with BC Racing BR Type adjustable coilovers along with Xcessive Manufacturing roll center adjusters and polyurethane steering rack bushings. It’s just one more little touch that makes this car stand out. The most outstanding modification is the 330mm-long bubble shift knob, and there’s also a Grant steering wheel along with a double DIN Sony head unit and Pioneer speakers in the front and rear. Never before have I wanted to crawl inside a car and take a nap so bad. Until then though, he’ll continue to cruise the streets of SoCal in one of America’s cleanest and most well put together Cressidas. But as long as there are people like Evan giving these cars the attention they deserve, all is right in the world. This is one of those articles that makes me search online for the next week looking for clean examples of the car for sale to do my own build. I can provide pics, we don't know what to do with it. But as long as there are people like Evan giving these cars the attention they deserve, all is right in the world. Absolutely spot on. Great work from Mike, Larry, and the owner, Evan. I particularly love the Root Beer Metallic and I'll always have a soft spot for Formula Mesh! We're talking WHOA, SHIT.Question: Is that interesting shift knob a socal style thing. Where does that come from. I don't know how to feel about it lol Some right-wing kyusha drivers use car-sized ones. So, putting a truck shift-knob in a car has to be better, right? Some right-wing kyusha drivers use car-sized ones. So, putting a truck shift-knob in a car has to be better, right? Kakoii cool in fact. Like mentioned in the article I appreciate the stance of the car and glad he didnt follow the trend of extreme negative cambers. I live in Brooklyn NY and Cressida were slightly popular among the west indian community. My cousin had one and we drove it for BK to Toronto Canada in 2003. I've come to realise this more and more while browsing this site. If you don't like something then move to the next article or the one after. I used to hate overfenders (still do to a degree) but despite that I've always found a lot on here to get excited about (sorry if I sound like a cheerleader). Whether you're into rat rods, hot rods, Rocket Bunny builds, old school Japanese, 90's JDM, stance, the vee dub scene, Kaido racers, track day specials, supercars, drifters, daily driven beaters with soul, show cars, Scandinavian Frankenstein swaps, time attackers, restomods, muscle cars, airbags, salt lake racers, lowriders or whatever else it's likely on this site. Really really excellent build!! It's good to see someone trying hard on a car which back in the day, got beaten up regularly. Kudos to the owner! Thats one sweeeeeet Cressida dude. I'd have that in my garage in a heart beat. Way better than those stanced-out vip cars nowadays. But what on earth is that gearstick? Rest of it is perfect. That interior too! Fell in love with them when my brother came home with a junky one back in 2008, love it! Fell in love with them when my brother came home with a junky one back in 2008, love it! Would also love to take a nap in that backseat haha.looks like Grandma's old couch! So I have seen many a nice 71 and 81. (An original four door sportscar). You're hard pushed to buy one without a JZ swap. Also, as a point to the author, they are more comparable to the Cefiro than a 240sx. They handle like boats and were really cruiser types not sports hatches like AE86's and Silvia's. If you going to build it like a kaido racer, like most of them do, crowns are just to big and sloppy to handle. It's styling might have been bland but it's performance was anything but. It dusted every accord, and maxima it ever raced. Along with a Peugeot turbo, a 300 series BMW and a 4.3L minivan someone thought was fast. It would handle twists and turns like a sports car rather than a 4 door grocery getter. It was so comfortable cruising at 100 mph seemed like 60 till you realized how fast you were passing traffic. The car was purchased by the selling dealer a year ago from its previous owner in Texas, and subsequent work included replacement of its factory automatic transmission with a five-speed manual gearbox as well as a front suspension and steering overhaul, a tune-up, installation of a new water pump, and more. This Mk II wagon shows 131k miles and is offered by the selling dealer with a clean Carfax report and a clean Texas title. Features include roof rails, dual rear windshield wipers, electric mirrors, a rear defroster, and the absence of a sunroof. The seller notes the presence of rust in both A-pillars. The driver-side mirror has reportedly been replaced. A noisy rear wheel bearing is noted. Equipment includes manually-adjusted seats, automatic climate control and shoulder belts, and a recently-reinstalled factory cassette stereo with an equalizer. The cruise control is said to be inoperative. The six-digit odometer registers 130k miles, of which the selling dealer has added about 3,500 over the past year. The selling dealer has reportedly added a new water pump and accessory belts as well as performing a tune-up with a new distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, vacuum lines, and fuel filter. Coolant and oil leaks were reportedly resolved with new hoses and gaskets. A vacuum leak is said to be audible under wide-open throttle and reportedly causes a rough warm idle. A new clutch is also said to have been fitted. Additional underbody images are provided in the gallery. Attempting to connect. Missed updates will be sent once your connection has been reestablished. I am looking at a cressida locally, this video has def helping me buy this money pit. All rights reserved Back to top. It was a beautiful, rust free car from Kentucky. Some early picks are included. However, not before tons money have been invested. Even in its current condition, it’s still a head turner. You did not see many when they were new and you never see one now. It was being built to haul another mid 80’s convertible. It has hauled a few cars over time (Mustang, Celicas, Cressidas and other large automotive parts). It was built for it. All of the turbo oil and cooling plumbing is in place. Because of a young kid, I ran out time and the project did not progress. The car was still used as a reliable daily driver up until about 2 years ago. Again, it was never intended to be sold. The rear end was rebuilt about 15K miles ago and it has a Torsen T2 LSD with 3:90 gears. Well documented build. I have too many projects and have to let some go. I will be fair and reasonable. It’s an extremely rare car with even more rare options added. I will call you time permitting. If you continue to use this site we will assume that you accept our privacy policy. We've made this weld in kit with the front mounting points already welded to a reinforcing base plate and the correct height and spacing for the MA70 to MX83 conversion as well as set it up for bottom up bolting so you won't have to do the top down problem of the MX83 type differential. We've also supplied our stud mount solid rear bushings to get everything held tight and located. You will need to use your rear cover from the MX83 differential to mount the MA70 in the Cressida sub frame. This is not a bolt in kit. You will need to weld on the new front mounting points and replace the the stock rear bushings. The stock MX83 differential will not bolt back in once the front modification has been welded in. We had this idea to build a drift car, so when this old, pasty brown, golf-course-green-carpeted, 1977 MX32 Cressida showed up on Gumtree, it seemed perfect. It had a munted water pump, had done the head gasket, wouldn’t fire and was completely stock. Jay is a fabricator, and I’m a mechanic, so between us we could get by.So I bought off Jay’s half of the car, chopped the springs a bit, added a set of Epsilon Southern Ways mesh rims and some venetians. I gave it a good cut and polish, got it running and reliable, and drove it as my daily for about a year. It never let me down; the 2.6L big-block six backed with an auto couldn’t pull the skin off a rice custard, but it was a bit of fun. So I decided to go for a 1JZ; it seemed the easiest and cheapest turbo swap. I picked up a Soarer and a five-speed manual gearbox and went for it. Jay gave me a hand along the way; it took about two months before we got everything to work on it.Jay, my brother and I headed up the road to the servo; the car was going well, making all those wicked turbo-associated noises, but on the freeway it seemed to be screeching. We arrived at the servo and noticed the front tyres were shredding. Apparently after swapping the coil-overs and steering arms over, a wheel alignment was a bit more crucial than I first thought. So we bought some whipper-snipper line and used it to do an on-the-spot, servo-spec alignment. Future plans are to build a 1.5JZ, using a forged 2JZ bottom end with the 1JZ head to get to three litres. Then cams, a bit of head work, and lots more boost. All Rights Reserved.
