Note the separate controls for reverb for each channel! The power transformer is affixed at an angle, as seen on the left. The grey wires go to and from the reverb tank. Can you see the problem? I marked this one so that it can be reinstalled in the proper place on the circuit board. The loudspeakers are wired in parallel. This pic documents the wiring colors. A quad of EL84 tubes serve as the class AB push-pull output circuit. This screw will be replaced. Marshall knobs, anyone? This stuff needs to be chipped away. The thermal expansion is more than the average solder joint can stand. Wire those sockets by hand; don’t mount on a PCB! All of the solder joints have been inspected and reworked as required. The Unbrokenstring has a complete stock of fuses, for such a moment as this. Here, we are drilling and tapping the chassis for a new screw. As we knew it would. The amp was a little noisy. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever even seen one of these things. If you need pictures, I'll definitely post some. But it has a second channel and no tremolo. Turned out the HT fuse was blown. But they do get bad solder joints and need to be retouched with a solder iron. A lot of amps with pots and jacks directly attached to the circuit board have that problem. The clean channel is awesome and you can get all the dirt you need from pedals. I was able to get my RP1000 through the clean channel to sound exactly like the crunch channel on the VC50 by using a marshall amp model with the cab set to direct. It was a 1991 usa tobacco sunburst with a HEAVY relic job. Sounded good though. No offense man but I think you lost pretty bad on that trade. On average I think the strat would be worth twice as much. It is a two channel amp with an independent spring reverb for each channel. I changed the speaker and the tubes about 10 years ago and it has been solid ever since. It takes pedals very well, not that I use many. Im about to open it up, Clean all contacts, Check power supply votages, Probe and swap the tubes, and scope it out with a 1khz signal generator. I suspect the opto isolators may not be isolating very well. I noticed If I turn down the volume of the active channel to zero the volume or gain control on the unused channel will allow signal to bleed through to the power section. Should be isolated, no. Could this be the source of the regenerative high freq feedback I am hearing? It had the original manual printed off an inkjet, in color, with the relevant serials etc printed by hand in ink on them, in there, as well as the footswitch and reverb tank all looking brand new. The metal covers on the corners and handles are a little tarnished, and the AC30-style top vents are a little dented like it was under a head in a stack for a while. Otherwise, the thing is so new looking, it's almost weird. I presume it was kept in a closet covered or was used in a studio for a while. I don't really know which model this one is. But in the back, in the technical specifications, it lists two amps, the 5212 and the 3112. The 1994 manual that's still available online shows 3112, 5310, 5312 and 5115. I dunno, they probably just sold a 3112 labeled with the VC50 logo, or maybe did a 5112 1x12 for just a few years or something. I'd love to know, if anyone has the details. I've read this entire thread and probably the whole internet's worth of info about this amp already, and there are only a few people who have said they've had a VC50 1x12. I'll be taking it to my local amp guy to fix up the dirty channel. It sounds great but pops. More than great, really. I cranked it and I was stoked by the break up. I wonder if this one has mods. The clean is sublime, as it should be. The effects loop sounds killer through my POD500X or with just a few pedals in the chain. I can't wait to get the maintenance done on this amp, it's so great. I'd like to get a footswitch. I see one on Ebay for the V series and am assuming it would work on the Vintage Club 50. Also, is it TRS like the effects loop. The plate voltage these amps (mine run 385 to 396) run at will kill them. I've got two of the VC 50 heads. The Ei quad I ran in there had a tube failure at about 25 hours. A JJ quad met the same fate. The stock Sovtek EL84s are pushed hard in these amps, but both stock quads are still alive and kicking. These amps push those tube really hard, but they seem to respond by delivering very decent tone. I replaced one of the Sovtek quads with NOS Soviet era military 6P14P-EVs. These heads sound great. Rather than check for the most obvious things first I canceled the listing and took it to be checked out. The boys at Saint Louis Music really nailed it when they set out to create an amp that rivaled the boutique ones and kept it priced for the working player. Mr. Lee Jackson, gained fame in the 80's and 90's by modifying Marshall amps for such musicians as Zakk Wylde, Akira Takasaki, Paul Gilbert, to name a few. In 1991, Crate invited Lee to design and create their very first Tube amp line.which would eventually be called the STEALTH series. This design is essentially a Hot-Rodded Marshall JCM800.
