Remove the rope guide from the starter rope e With the spark plug wire disconnected and ground- ed, hold the blade control handle against the upper handle, and pull the starter rope out of the engine. Hold the rope guide as shown so the opening in the rope guide is toward the front of mower. Slip the rope guide around the starter rope and into the right side of upper handle using the hole shown., Secure using the wing nut. Also, be certain to reconnect the spark plug wire before starting the mower. To dis- charge grass to the side, proceed as fol!ows. e To convert your mower from a mulcher to a side discharge mower, lift the mulching plug See figure 5. Slide the two hooks on the side discharge deflector under the hinge pin on the mulching plug assembly. Lower the mulching plug Mulching Plug Hooks FIGURE 5o OPERATION KNOW YOUR LAWN MOWER READ THIS OWNER'S MANUAL AND SAFETY RULES BEFORE OPERATING YOUR LAWN MOWER. Compare the illustrations with your lawn mower to familiarize yourself with the location of various controls and adjustments. Save this manual for future reference. The blade turns when the engine is running. BLADE CONTROL HANDLE--must be held down to the handle to start and run the engine. Release to stop the engine. STARTER ROPE--used for starting the engine PRIMER.https://datatray.com/userfiles/ear-force-p21-manual.xml-pumps additional fuel from the carburetor to the cylinder for use when starting a cold engine. ENGINE SPEED CONTROL LEVER--permits selec- tion of fast or slow engine speed. DRIVE CLUTCH CONTROL--must be held against the handle to engage the wheel drive. Release the drive clutch control to stop the wheels from driving. SHIFT LEVER--is used to select one of five operat- ing speeds for the mower. 6 HOWTO USE YOUR MOWER TO STOP ENGINE Release blade control handle to stop engine. Disconnect the spark plug wire and move it away from the spark plug to prevent accidental starting while equipment is unattended. When the operator leaves the operating position to change the cutting height, pick up sticks or other objects in the way, the engine will stop automatically when the control handle is released. DRIVE CLUTCH CONTROL To engage the wheel drive, hold the drive clutch con- trol against the handle. Releasing the drive clutch control stops the wheels from driving. Release the drive clutch control to slow down when negotiating an obstacle, making a turn or stopping SHIFT LEVER The five speed shift lever is located on the left side of the mower, beside the engine. See figure 7. To select the mower speed, depress the lever, move to desired position and release the lever. They should always be set to the same position.Refer to ENGINE LUBRICATION section.Make cer- tain the metal loop on the end of the spark plug wire (inside the rubber boot) is fastened securely over the metal tip on the spark plug, See figure 8 Metal Loop on Plug Wire r Boot FIGURE 8. e Press primer button as follows (cold starts only) For each initial start, push primer button five times prior to starter operation See figure 9, Use sharp pushes, wait between each push. Repeat the above for each starter operation as necessary. Do not use primer for warm engine restarts. Let the rope rewind slowly. Pull rope with a rapid, continuous, full arm stroke Keep a firm grip on start handle Let rope rewind slowly. Do not let starter handle snap back against starter If after three pulls the engine fails to start, push primer five times, then pull starter rope again. For a healthy lawn, always cut one-third or less of the total length of the grass at any one cutting. 0 Under certain conditions, such as very tall grass, it may be necessary to raise the height of cut to reduce pushing effort and to keep from overloading the engine and leaving clumps of grass clippings e For extremely heavy cutting, use a slow ground speed, and reduce the width of cut.Select the oil's viscosity grade according to your expected operating temperature. BRAKE SPRING BRACKET Spray a light oil lubricant on the brake spring bracket, located on the right rear corner of the engine, at least once a season. TRANSMISSION The transmission is pre-lubricated and sealed at the factory. It does not require checking. If disassembled for any reason, fill with 2 ounces of Alvania grease, part number 737-0168.Be sure trailing edge of blade is up towards engine.Q Use block of wood to hold blade and tighten bolt clockwise. The recommended torque for the center is 450-600 in. Ibs. The recommended torque for the blade adapter bolts is 200-350 in. IbsTorque wrenches are available at most Sears stores and through the catalog.NOTE: We do not recommend sharpening the blade--but if you do, be sure blade is balanced. Do not attempt to sharpen while on the mower. TO REMOVE BLADE (See Figure 11): e Turn mower on its side. Make sure air filter and carburetor are up.An unbalanced blade will cause excessive vibration when running and eventual damage to mower and engine 10 Leave about one inch of the straight nail exposed. Place center hole of blade over the head of the nail If blade is balanced, it should remain in a horizontal position. If either end of the blade moves downward, blade is not balanced.Collar ENGINE ENGINE LUBRICATION You must change the oil in the crankcase after the first two (2) hours of operation and after each 25 hours of use thereafter, CHANGE THE OIL MORE FREQUENTLY IF USED IN SANDY OR DUSTY CONDITIONS TO DRAIN OIL e Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with plug e Drain the gas tank e Remove the oil fill cap and dipstick. Turn and tip the unit on its side with the carburetor up, and drain oil into a suitable container.Tighten cap securely. SPARK PLUG Change your spark plug each year to make your engine start easier and run better. Set spark plug gap at 030 inch. AIR FILTER Your engine will not run properly and may be dam- aged by using a dirty air filter. Replace the air filter every year, more often if you mow in very dusty, dirty conditions. Do not wash air filter. Clean the underside of your mower after each use by scraping to remove build-up of grass clippings, leaves, dirt or other matter. If this debris is allowed to accumulate, it will invite rust and corrosion, and may prevent proper mulching Clean your mower and engine often to keep build- up of grass or debris from accumulating around engine. A clogged engine runs hotter and shortens engine life. NOTE: We DO NOT recommend using a garden hose to clean mower unless the electrical system, muffler, air filter and carburetor are covered to keep water out. Water in engine can result in shortening engine life. Reassemble, placing the bottom holes in the han- dle over the weld pins in the handle mounting bracket.Recheck the adjustment as instructed above, Periodic adjustment may also be necessary due to normal stretch and wear on the bell Adjustment may be needed if the wheels seem to hesitate, but the engine maintains the same speed To tighten the cable, move the adjustment wheel toward the right Recheck the adjustment. If additional adjustment is required, loosen the drive cable as far as possible, unhook the drive cable from the lower adjustment hole in the control handle, and hook it in the upper adjustment hole. DRIVE CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT The correct drive clutch adjustment varies with the speed of the mower, The drive clutch adjustment may be checked as follows. If the wheels lock up when pulted backward with the drive clutch control released (engine off), or if mower Drive Ck ustment Cable Wheel FIGURE 14. 12 FIVESPEED SHIFT ADJUSTMENT Periodic adjustment may be required due to normal wear. Adjustment is needed if the shift lever cannot be moved to all five positions, e Place the shift lever in high speed (5) position, Refer to figure 7. O O Loosen the nut which is underneath the lever (on the side of the bracket). Move the bracket to make certain it is loose. Then slide it towards the rear of the unit as far as it will go, so that the pulley halves (beneath the deck) are against each other. Make certain the belt does not interfere.Block securely, e Remove the center bolt which secures the blade to the crankshaft, See figure 16, Remove the blade and blade adapter, 13 FIGURE 17. Place belt between the two pulley halves, and reassemble the blade adapter and blade, Reassemble the inside belt cover.Loosen the two hand knobs on the sides of the handle, and let the upper handle fold down to the rear Move the hairpin clips to the outer hole in the weld pins on the handle mounting brack- ets. Refer to figure 3 Spread the sides of the lower handle, and push it forward and down. To prevent engine damage if lawn mower is not used for more than 30 days, proceed as follows.Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank in fuel tank or storage container. Always follow mix ratio found on stabilizer container. Run engine at least 10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow stabilizer to reach the carburetor. Do not drain gas tank and carburetor if using stabilizer. Then cover the spark plug hole with a rag to absorb oil spray. Next, rotate the engine by pulling the starter two or three times Finally, reinstall spark plug and attach spark plug wire. OTHER e Do not store gasoline from one season to another e Replace your gasoline can if your can starts to rust. Plastic cannot breathe which allows condensation to form and cause the metal components of your mower to rust. FUMES MAY REACH AN OPEN FLAME, SPARK OR PILOT LIGHT FROM A FURNACE, WATER HEATER, CLOTHES DRYER, CIGARETTE, ETCo 14 Fill tank with clean, fresh gasoline Clean fuel line. Comes with 5 new filters. Good for someone who knows a thing or two about gas mowers. It has been a great mower and good quality engine. Was working well. Also, since the oil could have seeped out of the hydraulic circuit you should follow the purge procedure to make sure the air is out. Do I need to open up the box and refit the tapered plate. Regards Nigel I know for a fact that the tapered plate which alters direction was fitted correctly as I took photos when I initially started repairs and opened up the box. Any help appreciated Regards Nigel If you did not replace the center case (the part held in with 3 bolts) then it could be that the damage to the faces of the center case is showing up in forward first. What oil and best way to drain it. To bad no recall on them. They are a competitor of ours so I do not have any information on them. Number on tag, Tuff Torq 7A646084320. Another comment said 20W-50 syn. The amount I removed was 2 quarts. Thank you, Don Normally you can see it from the rear of the tractor. The back tires dont seems to have a differential gear and just push the front tires straight ahead. Is there something wrong with the transmission? I doubt if the fluid has ever been changed. It has 187 hours. I would like to put 5W50 in it. What can I expect to pay at the dealer to have this done. I believe this is a 2013. I have the model and serial number but can’t seem to find the info. Serial is 012814A010040. However, here is the link for the transmission in your tractor. All I can advise is to try out some new Pullyes. Ypu’d mentioned an oil-change and also that the drivebelt had been replaced. If 100 properly purged (sounds simple but actually isn’t), well then if now power it can in my humble opinion still be a drivebelt issue. How to check this? After running it and noticing the slipping, stop the engine and get off, check directly by touching the drive pulley on the engine and over the drive axle. If these are warm or even hot, well then check by looking at the pulleys exactly where the belt runs. If all shiny well then the slipping is obvious and the heat confirms this. Then and although you’d previously invested in a new drivebelt you still have slip! Have tried to order a replacement cylinder block 168T2025090 but the part appears to be unavailable in France. Can you advise me if it is possible to order a part or even the pistons and springs Many thanks. Just fill until it is 4.5mm from the top? Seems like a lot of oil Do I need to just change the oil, if so do Ii need to remove the transmission or can I draw the old oil from the reservoir tank. Get me that number and I can instruct you on how to change the oil. Gets hot after ahwile for mowing so much just changed fluid out I discovered a trail of oil up the drive and into the garage with a fairly large amount of oil in the garage. The apparent amount of spill would appear to be more than what is leaking from the bolt. I don’t see any evidence that the oil spilled down from the top of the trans yet it seems impossible that much oil could have come out through that slowly dripping bolt. The bolt was tight. What might cause this situation. What is the likely hood that the internals are damaged and a full rebuild is necessary? Did you perhaps hit something. Unless you open up the transmission and inspect the hydraulic parts you will not know for sure about the damage. I would take the transmission out and inspect it really well for issues with the case. If nothing is found the you might want to get some RTV and re-seal the case to make sure it is not the issue in leaking.after filling it with oil and making sure it does not leak I would put it back in and try it. Could it be replaced at a big box stores or is OEM necessary? Best to order it off the website to ensure you are getting the correctly speced bolt. Loss of power up hills. Axle seal was bad, leaked all the trans fluid out.If recommended to rebuild, where could I purchase the rebuild kit. This Transmission is K46 ETC. Also, the mower had ran for quit some time before the notice of any power loss. Also, when i went in to fill the fluid, had to replace the fan as there were no blades on it (who knows how many hours of operation under this condition). Thinking the trans overheated, blew the axle seal, leaked out the fuid, (because i was stupid and didn’t notice) continued using all up until it totally stopped moving. I would need the serial number of the transmission that is found on a bar code sticker that is on the case of the transmission close to one of the axles. Normally you can see it from the rear of the tractor. Its starting to whine. Want to change the fluid. Is this the K46 trans, and what fluid (vicosity) does it take? Thanks. It is filled with 10W-30 motor oil and you can use that or the John Deere J20C. I can cut for about an hour and after that it quits moving. Any info would be great on this. Just oil change or rebuild. I am leaning towards an oil change cause when it does pull it pull great with no issues. I have cleaned all debris from around it to make sure it’s breathing good. Fan on top is also good. It will not climb inclines anymore. Is rebuilding it ok or will I run into the same issues. What options are available. This tractor still has strong motor and deck. Thanks Jim Rebuild is not without some risk but it is not much of one. Or you can get a K66 replacement kit through RJR Tractors. Also it barely moves when under load after being used for a half hour. Replacement oil? Thanks No leaks but had to replace a shaft spacer as it was nye on welded to the shaft but got it off. It’s an old unit so won’t be perfect but almost sounds like it’s hurting. Noises don’t bother so if this is normal then I’m fine with it. Thanks again It could be that there is some wear on the center case and the oil pressure that is bleeding off is causing the noise. However, every transmission does sound different which is something I learned on the production floor. If it has power I would continue to run it and see how it fairs. It may be sluggish on hills but otherwise this is preventative maint.I have no leaks or other issues other than sluggish on hills. Is it worth me splitting the case for inspection and cleaning magnets or am I better just to get the TT3 in it and leave well enough alone.Should I be concerned I have caused any damage or.Is a replacement seal available. If so, what is the part number. Thanks in advance for your help. My test drive was ok for 10 mins but felt as though the IDS was jerky then all drive stopped both forward and reverse. Your previous advice was to replace the input drive shaft I have not done this as it seemed ok but will if necessary. I will breakdown the box tomorrow but would be greatfull for any advice. Regards Nigel I am assuming I will need to flush and replace the filter. I had trouble trying to log in. Changing oil is another matter and you can find the lol change information at this link. It did good for the first year.Check all the pulleys especially the ones on the engine and the transmission. If that is good then check the linkage. If all is well with those two items check the keys in the hubs. If one is broken the transmission will work but all power will be applied to the free spinning axle and the whole thing will not run. When I removed the transmission and drained the oil it was milky. Would that cause the transmission to malfunction? Can you advise on the failure and the remedy for both these leaks, please. It seemed ok when it was cold but once it ran for about 30 minutes it started slipping very bad. The tractor is still under warranty and I will have to call craftsman but thought I would see what you thought about the problem. I believe it is a k46 model. The transmission is dry on the outside so I dont see how it can be low on fluid either. And only works for 5 minutes. I dumped oil out and refilled it and only runs for 5 minutes can you help J’ai refait le plein par le reservoir externe.
