When you get the keypad which will most likely be a Genuine Craftsman.And tried programming it the way numerous people here in the reviews had suggested. After not working, I called Liftmaster and they were nice enough to try and help me. The only reason it did not work was because of one simple trick.He was wrong. both the 877 Max Liftmaster, and the 3050 Craftsman are identical. EXAMPLE: Step 1. Press Learn Button on your Garage unit. Here is the trick. The final time you hit enter. Hold down Enter button until your unit flashes. It might click instead of flash. My unit flashed. Step 5. Press 0 to exit. Step 6. You are ready to test your opener. Note: I performed these steps with my garage door down. I suppose it does not matter. But I would suggest to do it closed. My husband instead ignored the instructions and was able to program it. Now it works perfectly; and is a nice looking unit. I have an older Craftsman garage door opener (1994). It has a green 'learn' button on the back. There is a green LED light on the back near this button but you also need to pay attention to the light bulb on the front of the opener when programming this remote key pad. Here's what worked for me. Next, enter a 4-digit code and press enter. 3rd, press the green learn button on the opener. Now look for the light bulb (not LED) to flash then press 0 on the remote key pad to finalize the programming. For our unit if you hold down the green learn button for 6 sec or more on the opener it clears all programming and you will have to reprogram all of your remotes. Hope this helps someone. I was ready to return this unit but am happy that my husband got it working (he's the best). I would give this product 5 stars if the instructions worked.After several tries, I went to other reviews to find hints from others having the same problem. I originally tried programming from the opposite side of the button to avoid having to move my car out of the garage, without seeing the light come on. When I could see the LED light come on, I immediately competed the programming and it worked fine. This opener was an exact match for my original one which I lost when I left it on the trunk on my car and drove off. I did not mount this opener - i used it when I worked around the house and wanted the garage door closed.After 24 years the transmitter we installed outside on our garage door trim stopped working. Located this replacement on Amazon. Received within about 5 days. Directions included are very clear and easy to understand. Directions include 7 steps and we found we needed to complete only steps 1-4 in order for the garage door to recognize the transmitter. Your garage door should then close with that final step. It was very easy to program. Very happy we were able to locate this replacement transmitter for such an old garage door opener.So I'm not sure if this is an Amazon issue, or an issue with the seller. It took me about 1 minute to program successfully on the first try, and about another minute to mount it. Overall satisfied!Once it was all figured out, it works like a charm, no issues. When pressed, a radio signal indicator will start blinking red for 30 seconds. The learn button is sometimes located on the back of the unit, or with Excelerator openers, it is under the light lens near the hinge of the lens globe. Always locate the floppy antenna wire first. If your Door Opener does not have an antenna, you have an External Receiver. The External Receiver cover must be removed to access the Learn Code button and the indicator LED. Follow Steps 1 through 3 outlined below: The red LED indicator light will start to blink. It will blink for up to 30 seconds. While it is blinking, proceed to Step 2. For every switch in the ON or positive position record a 1, for every switch in the OFF or negative position record a 2. Note: PIN stands for Personal Identification Number of your choice. Dispose of old battery properly. WARNING PROGRAM A TEMPORARY PIN OPERATION The garage door opener activates when the PIN and ENTER button are pressed. The keypad will blink for 15 seconds, during that time the ENTER button can be used to stop, start or reverse the door. If the wrong number is accidentally pressed, press the correct PIN then the ENTER button. The Keyless Entry will transmit only the last four digits that were pressed before the ENTER button. Each programmed PIN can program one temporary PIN. The temporary PIN can be set for a number of hours or a number of door openings. The temporary PIN cannot be the same as any previously programmed PIN. To get to that point, you'll need to make sure the indoor opener and the remote opener are properly programmed. When the garage door opener has been installed and working for a while and suddenly the door won't open, it can be frustrating. Most garage door openers will work manually if the automatic function stops working, but checking the components of the door will usually reveal the problem. For the garage door opener transmitter, press and release the smart button on the garage door opener motor unit. The indicator light will glow for 30 seconds. Learn buttons are located on the motor head near the terminal strip for wire connections. Within 30 seconds, press and hold the button on the handheld remote. Then, release the button when the motor unit blinks. It has learned the code. If light bulbs aren't installed, you'll hear two clicks. When you have your PIN, press and release the smart button on the garage door opener's motor unit. The indicator light will glow for 30 seconds. Within 30 seconds, enter the PIN on the keypad. Press and hold the enter button. Release the button when the garage door opener motor lights blink. With the door closed, pull the emergency release cord and lift the door to see if it opens and closes smoothly. Even if the automatic opener fails, you should be able to manually lift your garage door. If it doesn't open or sounds rough, the problem is probably caused by your tracks, rollers or springs, not your opener. Unscrew the switch from the wall and touch the two wires together. They're low voltage and won't shock you. If the opener runs, the switch is bad. If you have an older one, a doorbell button might work. If the opener doesn't work when you touch the wires, it might be the wires that are bad. Remove the old wires and install 18 to 22 gauge wire, and the switch should work again. If replacing the batteries still doesn't work, you may need a new remote. You should be able to find a new one online, but if your model is older, you may need a universal remote or you can install a new receiver. If the door sticks when opening, the metal rollers and hinges need lubricating. Also, check the tracks. If the remote and wall switch don't work, check your circuits to make sure one isn't accidentally turned off. If the door goes up but only goes back down when you hold the wall switch, the safety sensors may not work properly. The light on each sensor should be lit. Sensors do go bad. You'll have to replace this. Make sure it's tightened according to the directions in your owner's manual. Overtightening will cause wear and tear on the shaft and gears. Too little tension could cause the chain to come off the rail. To replace this, you can find the part number on the board. Then, remove the light bulb, disconnect the switch and safety sensor wires, remove the screws, unplug the board and install your new circuit board according to the manufacturer's directions. Make sure it's protected with a surge protector. Inspect mounting brackets, cables, fasteners, tracks and supports, looking for loose, bent or worn parts. Tighten, adjust or replace as needed. Check the cord connection between the opener and the electrical outlet to make sure it's secure and not frayed. Every couple of months, test the auto-reverse system to make sure it opens in case it comes into contact with anything while closing. Set an object in front of the electronic eyes, in the threshold and in the path of the electronic eyes. The door should reverse in each situation. Make sure your chain, screw and rollers are lubricated with a spray lithium lubricant. And, check your manual release system and make sure you know how it works. The mounting brackets are designed to clip onto the track of sectional garage doors without additional hardware. Be sure power is not connected to the garage door opener BEFORE installing the safety reversing sensor. If it is necessary to mount the units on the wall, the brackets must be securely fastened to a solid surface such as the wall framing. Extension brackets (see accessories) are available if needed.
