All the controls, including the power switch, are visible at a glance. Even the icons labeling the two pressure gauges are instantly understandable. The noise of charging is bearable. There’s a cord wrap and even a little widgets bin with a lid atop the unit. With a sleek design, it takes the full range of brad lengths. I’d like it better if the safety didn’t block your view of exact brad placement, and if its tip were cushioned. The pump just doesn't put out enough power to move much air. It will run a tiny brad nailer for occasional shots, because that doesn't require much air. However, this is usually the first place I'll check for reviews. It's curious that the reviews on Sears.com are so much more positive?? I bought mine at a Sears store. So if you take the plunge be sure to check EVERYWHERE!! Performance has been fine. I'm nothing close to a contractor but have owned enough homes and rental property that I can do most jobs and appreciate quality tools that cost more vs. Junk. But I couldn't justify spending 2,3, or 4 X the price for a tool used a dozen times a year. OPERATIONALLY I struggled with two things; 1) Mentioned in one of the reviews here- my unit seemed dead after I hooked it up. 5 minutes of noodling I realized I needed to turn up the pressure using the big knob on the end by the gauges. No big deal. 2) I couldn't get nails in the cartridge of the nailer. Another few minutes of scratching my head I realized the hex but at the end by the little flip lock was blocking the nails from entering. A few turns with the provided Allen wrench, problem solved. Sounds like a hassle but the thing holds like 100 nails and who are we kidding. We're not building an entire home with this thing. I'll post an opinion after using.The instruction manual needs the part diagrams to better match the true shapes of the actual components. Certainly confusing to the unfamiliar trying to match pieces for assembly. The compressor filled quickly to 100psi. About 3 to 4 minutes. Runs pretty quite (some of you know what I mean.) with suction cup style feet dampers. The unit looks and feels of quality. The air gun is of much higher grade than expected given the price. Very nice, sturdy, solid and feels good to work with. Compressor re-fired at 80psi after about 5-6 brads. Ran for about 20 seconds. 100psi. I'm in love. Filled the tank and ran around topping tires. Upon starting to fill the tank the fan started making a weird squealing noise. Removed the cowl covering turned on the compressor and the fan started with the noise and looking like it was wobbling like it was loose. When running a paint sprayer, for example, you will hear the electric motor kick in as the air in the tank drops, and it will shut down each time the tank pressure reaches its set limit. Instead, a single motor-driven air compressor can power a whole collection of relatively inexpensive attachments. Pneumatic tools can also generate more power than many hand-held electrical tools. Mechanically, air compressors use one of several design styles — some with automotive-style pistons that require oil to keep them operating properly. These piston-style compressors tend to be higher-power models used to operate larger tools. For more modest jobs, diaphragm-style compressors are available; they use no oil, but create a seal using a rubber diaphragm. The oil-less diaphragm compressors have become very popular among homeowners, and are useful for operating air nailers, paint sprayers and other smaller equipment. If the compressor does not shut off automatically after the air pressure gauge reaches 115 pounds per square inch, unplug the compressor and have it serviced before using the compressor again. The air tank could burst from excess air pressure. Make sure the power switch is turned off. Plug the power cord into a grounded (three-pronged) electrical outlet. Use ear protection if you will be working around the compressor for long periods of time. Check the oil level by peering into the sight gauge at the bottom of the compressor motor. If necessary, remove the oil filler cap, and add compressor oil to bring the level up to the full mark on the gauge. Check the oil level after each use. Turn the power switch on and allow the compressor to run a few minutes. Check the built-in air gauge and make sure the compressor shuts off automatically when the air pressure reaches 100 to 115 psi. The pressure capacity of the tank will vary, depending on the model. Do this by turning the air control valve in either direction until the air pressure gauge reads the correct air pressure for the tool. Wrap the threaded end of the air hose with two layers of Teflon tape, and then thread the hose onto the compressor fitting (located near the air pressure gauge). If the soil is extremely hard and dry, it may be desirable to cross till an area at shallow depth first, then till in the direction of planting rows on the second pass at the final depth. Then till the skipped area. Tilling in this pattern will enable you to maintain better control. If the passes were made side-by-side, the tractor and tiller would tend to pull toward the tilled (soft) side. Check ground moisture: If you can make a ball in your hand out of ground to be tilled, do not till soil if too wet. This causes lumps which are difficult to work up. When operating for the first time, proceed slowly and carefully until you become familiar with the proper method of operating the tiller. In soil that was tilled the year before, select the tilling depth at which the tiller engine runs comfortable and does not stall or pull down. Lower depth for additional passes if great depth is desired. Whenever working multiple passes, go perpendicular to the previous tilling direction. In cases where the soil is too hard to get proper penetration or if tiling action causes tiller to hop or bounce, it will be necessary to purchase a set of tiller (wheel) weights. CULTIVATING o o Your tiller may be used for cultivating which requires a minimum of two (2) inches of soil penetration. Set depth stake so the tiller will penetrate soil to a depth of 2 to 3 inches. The tiller engine should be run at full throttle except when cultivating small plants. A slower engine is necessary to prevent burying the plants. Once a year you should replace the spark plug, clean or replace air filter, and check tines and belts for wear. A new spark plug and clean air filter assure proper air-fuel mixture and help your engine run better and last longer. Some adjustments will need to be made periodically to properly maintain your unit. All adjustments in the SERVICES AND ADJUSTMENTS section of this manual should be checked at least once each season. Check tine operation. Check for loose fasteners LUBRICATION Keep unit well lubricated. See LUBRICATION CHART. Refer to the engine manual for instructions on engine maintenance.Remove Oil Fill Plug (Figure 10). Oil Level must be even with the Plug Hole (with Tiller level.) If necessary, add Oil. Use SAE30 Non-Detergent Motor Oil. Replace Oil Fill Plug. Check transmission oil level after each 10 hours of operation. NOTE: It is not necessary to change the Oil in the Tiller Transmission. If for any reason it must be changed, Oil capacity is 22 oz. Clean wheels, finish, etc.Keep finished surfaces and wheels free of all gasoline, oil, etc. Protect painted surfaces with automotive type wax. We do not recommend using a garden hose to clean your unit unless the muffler, air filter and carburetor are covered to keep water out. Water in engine can result in a shortened engine life. MUFFLER Do not operate tiller without muffler. Do not tamper with exhaust system. Damaged mufflers or spark attesters could create a fire hazard. Inspect periodically and replace if necessary. If your engine is equipped with a spark attester screen assembly, remove every 50 hours for cleaning and inspection. Replace if damaged. FIGURE 10 ENGINE MAINTENANCE WARNING: Always stop engine and disconnect spark plug wire before cleaning, lubricating or before performing any repairs or maintenance. Check oil level before each use and every 8 hours. Maintain engine oil as instructed in the separate engine manual. Service air cleaner every 25 hours under normal conditions. Clean every few hours under extremely dusty conditions. Poor engine performance and flooding usually indicates that the air cleaner should be serviced. To service the air cleaner, refer to the separate engine manual. Spark plug replacement is recommended every 100 hours or yearly. Check the engine manual for correct plug type and gap specifications. TO REPLACE V-BELT Replace V-belt if it has been damaged considerably from slipping under heavy loads or if it show cracks or frayed edges. Refer to figures 11 and 12. IMPORTANT: Do not move or remove the belt guide.TINE CARE For best results -- Tine Blades should be kept reasonably sharp. The Tine Blade can be sharpened on a grinding wheel. Do not attempt to sharpen Tines while they are mounted to Tiller. The hex bolts drive the tines and hold them in the proper location. Should the Tine Assemblies strike or pick up a large hidden object or become jammed, the hex bolts will break and the drive components will not be damaged. Two extra tine hex bolts and nuts are included with the tiller.
