The process resets the box's flash memory, erasing everything except the firmware. Hold down any button on the remote control, then disconnect and reconnect the power cord. I would not buy one again since all you wind up with is an expensive remote. I you buy this online Comcast wont activate it for you. Do not buy any Comcast TV boxes. Wait for the box to reboot. See the links to the two pictures below: Turn off the box (press POWER on the remote). Press it again if the display (black text on white background) does not come up within a second. The most important thing is to make sure you've ATTACHED THE JUMPER CABLE (rf in to rf in) Once that is done, make sure your coax cable is going into the CABLE IN. Your setup should look like the picture above. Then reset the unit: This is most often due to poor training. A DCT22XX is also known as a DCT2000, and the DCT2524 is also referred to as a DCT2500. Do not do anything further to the unit until it shuts off. Then press 328 repeatedly until the two LEDs flash once. The unit will reboot and hunt. It takes some practice to get the timing right. Scroll down using the down arrow key until COLD is displayed then press SELECT. This will put the box into hunt mode to look for a new carrier. NOTE: The MENU key is located directly below the TV button on Atlas remotes. This is much more likely to happen with a larger provider (ie. Cogeco). To fix this issue: Have your provider remove the unit from their DAC (ie. Take it out of the system). Give it at least an hour after they say they are doing this before calling them back.We recommend you reset the unit again before adding it back into the system. Check to make sure your cable is going into the correct input, as some units have more than one location the cable can be screwed into.http://moskewicz.com/images/comcast-cable-box-dc50x-manual.pdf Most cable providers either use 72.25 or 72.75. Your cable provider should be able to tell you what the correct frequency is for your area. It is not enough for them to just resend the activation signal, as there are a number of settings that need to be checked to ensure the unit is properly setup in the system. This is a MAJOR cause of non-responder units. Remote Problems: If your Atlas remote isn't controlling your STB, please reset it: CBL device is locked. To unlock it: 1. Press CBL key 2. Press and hold SETUP unit CBL binks twice 3. Type 982 If it blinks four times, now it's unlocked and you can do the next step to set to it to 01376. They feature DVI (video only) as their main video output. This left users needing to use RCA cables for audio or to hook the unit up to an AV receiver. Even though they are older models, they still work quite well. Picture quality is very subjective, but we don't believe you would notice a large difference between this unit and a newer model. The biggest differences are size and lack of HDMI output. They can be used as a standalone unit if supported by your provider. There's no real difference for an end user apart from the appearance of the unit. The DCX700 is a smaller version of the DCX3200, mainly used by smaller cable providers. We do not know the exact differences, but the DCX3200 is by far the more widely deployed unit. More content to follow. Depending on your provider, VOD may no longer work properly. Very durable, and still widely used. First of the DCT6000 series of units. Any models starting with a '6' had both analog and digital tuners. They are still widely used and perform quite well. The internal hard drive can be upgraded to 1TB. The hard drive fan now sits under the drive (earlier models had it attached to the HDD housing) making it easier to replace in the event of failure as well. This is an all-digital HD receiver. Very popular model as it is the last DVR made to feature an analog tuner. Still widely used as a lot of companies have not upgraded to MPEG4. Not widely available. Supports 1080P through VOD, as well as enhanced digital audio capabilities. While no longer made, it is still an excellent PVR. Later models in the DCX series are smaller, but do not feature much in the way of noticeable improvements for the average consumer. Last Motorola model to use the regular power cord. Does not have 3D support. Primarily used by smaller cable providers. Primiarly used by Charter. Slightly longer than a DCX3200 P2. The removable HDD tray is a nice feature. Unlike Arris models, this is used as a normal DVR as well. This is the best PVR we have available. However it is possible that it would come under Abuse of Monopoly. I have basic cable, but when the contractor came to do the install he didn't seem to know what he was doing and had problems getting sound from the TV, and one of the things he tried was running the cable into the TV through a Motorola DCT700. I guess this is some kind of de-scrambler. Anyway we lived with that for a while and really enjoyed the program guide feature, which I never had before. A friend told me that I was getting a great deal and Comcast must have screwed something up. This has been going on for 2 years. Just recently we lost the program guide. We still get all the channels, but no program guide, and no On Demand. I don't really care about On demand but the program guide is handy. I was going to call Comcast, but I'm thinking that may end my run of this deal. I also thought about adding a Tivo and using that for the program guide, but I don't know if this will work, or not. Anyone have any experience with this. Anyone using a Tivo with a DVT700. If you want NextDay, we can save the other items for later. Order by, and we can deliver your NextDay items by. Although no such product has been produced, it’s believed that it will end up looking like a small dongle rather than a more traditional entry-level all-digital set-top such as the Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) DCT700. COO Steve Burke discussed on the company’s fourth quarter conference call the idea of migrating 20 percent of the MSO’s footprint to all-digital during the “back half” of 2008. We’re very focused on the digital transition and we’re committed to helping our customers get through that transition.” The volumes Comcast is considering are similar to what Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) is seeking in a set-top RFP the telco issued last summer. (See Verizon Set-Top RFP Could Be Worth Billions.) Because of the costs involved, there’s little chance it will contain a CableCARD interface. Sources familiar with the project suggest that Comcast may opt for a DVB-based encryption format or use even more limited protection because programming offered today on the analog basic and expanded basic tiers is already delivered “in the clear.” A downloadable CA system is another possibility, but considered a stretch at this point. Comcast is appealing the FCC’s decision, arguing that the denials are hurting its ability to migrate to digital due to the elevated costs for lower-end set-tops with CableCARD interfaces. Comcast has claimed that the lowest-end CableCARD box from Motorola costs roughly double that of the DCT700. (See Comcast Takes CableCARD Battle to Court.) Click here to sign up to our daily newsletter My interpretation is Comcast would provide the dongle (like a digital block convertor, only Digital to Analog) to analog customers to support the FCC's analog TV requirements. Comcast gets to free-up bandwidth in their network for money making services and no need for expensive STBs for every TV (if Comcast were to go all digital). Maybe I am stating the obvious.Cable companies can hand them out like candy (one for every TV in the house, with no rental charge). Cable companies might not be too happy with having to provide digital (SD only, however) channels unencrypted, but what choice do they have. I love it! I have noticed quite a few analog channels being moved to digital tiers. I have not seen the corresponding reduction in my cable bill. The coupon program is for a different breed of d-to-a converters that receive over-the-air programming.Comcast will hand these out for the bandwidth efficiency gains. But I got me some. My next TV will have all those fancy tuners and cable card so when my older TV breaks. My old TV now has a great picture thanks to HD cameras, This brought back bad memories of a couple of years ago when Comcast employees spent hours trying to convince me that I had to switch my extended basic to digital and then had to pay more for it. Of course I had seen the discussions of how they then had hoped to gain more BW and channels thanks to LR. Will those Digital Dongles really be free?? Gary E Irdeto is the logical choice and this is what I hear from some industry colleagues as well, because Nagra and NDS are being used by Comcast's biggest satellite competitors, NDS is too expensive for a project like this anyway and is in serious potential legal trouble with the Echostar lawsuit, and Nagra is hopelessly hacked. Irdeto is the third player in the market so this makes sense. Given the bandwidth Comcast will reclaim, it'll probably worth it to them to get them out en masse. I'm curious about how easy these things will be to install. The hope is that consumers will only have to connect them to the outlet without too much fuss.and avoid those pricey truck rolls. They just came on my radar again.something about a revived N. American cable play. Coincidence? Anyway, I'll be interested to hear what they have to say. Your parents are lucky their DCT700 hasn't been bricked (killed). yet. telcodad posted above that apparently a firmware update killed the boxes so I suspect that it's only a matter of time. As far as that XR2 remote, it is a piece of garbage IMO. I'm having the same channel change issues since yesterday (7-29) and I only got the replacement box for the DCT700 on Friday (came with that XR2 remote). So as plant is upgraded, and changes are made in the HEs they arent able to update. I wonder if the firmware push tried to circumvent that issue. Those things were huge.It had a cable loop in the back). One day, it was sort-of working, but the guide was not updating. When I checked a 700 they had, it looked like the OOB frequency had changed, and I guess the 2500 didn't know how to tune to it.So as plant is upgraded, and changes are made in the HEs they arent able to update. I wonder if the firmware push tried to circumvent that issue. Another side note: firmware pushed are done sporadically, so its not a blanket push to a whole state or area. But to this day you will find people walking into Comcast locations with legacy devices. And while I have a newer flat screen TV in my living room, I want NO part of X1.That's just me but I think there might be other folks, too. The DCT units (and for that matter the DCH units) on the other hand are almost certainly sent to the recycler when they are handed in.Sure, but this discussion was about those with STBs. Quality Quester 4.0 out of 5 stars So, let's work through the differences. Well, no, no, and no. Research has led me to guess LEADER Electronics Inc.Part Number Overspecificity: The Amazon product page stated and the accompanying picture showed the full part number 503913-007, while I received part number 503913-004. Model Number Overspecificity: The Amazon product page stated and the accompanying picture showed the full model number MT20-21120-A04F, while I received model number MT20-21120-A00F. Repeat the part number suffix discussion (above) here to reveal another likely nondifference difference. So, then, what's right. The basic ratings of 12 VDC, 750 mA output and an input range that allows the 120 V, 60 Hz power available from my outlets. Well now, does it WORK. Yes, and it solved my problem. I eventually discovered that switching on my garbage disposal would often cause the DCT700 to reset. I later discovered that switching on my vacuum cleaner would usually (almost always) cause a DCT700 reset. A quick check of the (third-party) power supply that had come with the DCT700 left me impressed the cable box was still managing to work at all. So, I pursued a two-track response. I ordered this supply via Amazon and investigated the ailing supply. The supply ordered via Amazon plugged right in as expected and restored reliable DCT700 operation. No more unwanted resets. The old third-party supply proved to have a failed output capacitor. Replacement with the proper(ly functioning) part rendered that supply once again able to power the DCT700 without trouble. It's a power cord. Not sure what else needs to be saidIt doesn’t have the same product or model number. But it fits my modem and works perfectly so I’m not complaining. In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading.
