Especially in this case, when i945P differs from cheaper predecessors only in its support for some functions, required in mid and high-end systems. Nevertheless, if you need (or just want) a motherboard on i945 without any excesses, this model will be a very good choice. As we have already mentioned, ECS 945P-A v2.0 is a simplified modification of the ECS 945P-A v1.1 (100-Mbit network controller instead of a 1000-Mbit one, and 6-channel integrated audio instead of 8-channel HDA). At the same time, ECS manufactures another motherboard on i945P from the top Extreme series: PF5 Extreme. However, speaking of top-class technologies (not just middle end features), this model possesses only a questionable cooling system for a processor and power circuits, as it's based on a similar PCB. There are no problems with assemblage, a little fly in the ointment is the location of DIMM slots and an additional peripheral power connector too close to the main PCIEx16 graphics slot — as a result, an installed video card will hamper access to these components. Access to the only jumper is not hampered, even when the motherboard is in a case. A brief description of its functions is provided on the PCB. The 4-phase switching voltage regulator of the processor incorporates two field-effect transistors per channel (the layout actually provides for three field-effect transistors, but this feature is implemented only in the expensive PF5 Extreme) and eleven 1800 uF capacitors. The board also has a memory voltage regulator incorporating five 1000uF capacitors, reinforced with inductive elements. I was able to get my fsb speed to 250mhz and even higher on my pentium D 820. With the cheap ecs board bios, I was only able to go up to 237mhz bus because the stupid board will not detect my sata harddrives above that bus speed. With systool, I can bump the bus speed above this constraint and still use my sata harddrives. It's incredible! I have a suggestion though. It would be cool if systool and atitool is integrated such that when a 3D application is detected, a profile for both the fsb clock and vga clocks can be loaded. It will also be nice to set systool to load certain profiles when it detects certain programs are loaded. DL memtest or RightMark RAMTester Utility and test your ram at 220mhz and see if there are problems with your ram. If not, then the problem most likely lies somewhere else. Then test the cpu by running TWO instances of prime95 and select Small FFT test which stresses your cpu. If no error, then most likely you have some sort of power problems. First of all, make sure u plug all the power cables correctly to the mb. It is possible that u left out a plug and your comp still boots. Make sure you plug in power to the video card if it has a connector and plug the power to the pci-e slot on the mb if u using pcie. Is your power supply using the new (I remember it is 24) pin power connector or the older connectors with 4 pins less. You also have harddrives, fans, drives, etc.When u buy a ps, make sure u buy one with a very high efficiency rating; At least 70 efficiency. Even though a ps is rated at 550w, it most likely can provide only 450w of constant power. List all your other specs, like video card, hds, etc. I ran Prime95 for several hours with no errors. I ran Memtest for a couple of hours and found 2 errors at 687 coverage. Retested again and found 1 error at 1076 coverage Had memory set at 667MHZ on Bios. I have to use Gigabyte's motherboard utilility monitoring software to raise the FSB up higher upon booting at 267mhz FSB. Can go to 290mhz FSB, anymore and no matter what I try it just won't go further. SysTool would be very nice to use on this board, if I could tighten the ram timings it could be a nice performer for a 945 Intel chipset motherboard. Change it from disabled to enabled. Speed of Foxconn 955X7AA-8EKRS2 motherboard on Intel 955X Express chipset with DDR2-533 memory is identical to Foxconn 925XE7AA-8EKRS2 board on i925XE Express chipset, except for better CAS which, however, has been worse here, than at ASUS board on i925XE chipset, but better, than at MSI P4N Diamond board on NVIDIA chipset. Using of DDR2-667 memory in this case gives not so much - speed of reading raises slightly, speed of record doesn’t practically change, and even CAS makes worse, as memory need to work on high timings. With NVIDIA nForce4 SLI IE chipset, in this case, Intel 955X chipset has no so special differences, only a little bit higher recording speed of memory on NVIDIA chipset. There is no special benefit of using DDR2-667. On the other hand, it is not necessary to take a support of DDR2-667 memory as an attribute yet, as its use with modern processors on the bus 800 MHz doesn’t give any high-speed advantages actually due to restrictions of a system bus and a necessity of memory timings increase on such high frequencies.
