It is based on the AMD 890GX chipset with SB850 southbridge and offers a fast integrated HD4290 GPU with sideport memory. The performance and the basic equipment of this high-end ASRock motherboard is really amazing, and it is very interesting to see how easy this platform can be overclocked. It’s easy to find these buttons even without light inside of the PC. By the way one could use theoretically also several nVidia video cards, however officially not as SLI, but only the output to several monitors would be supported. Additionally to the three PCI Express 2.0 slots there are 3 PCI slots and one x1 PCIe 2.0 slot. It also comes without the obligatory floppy connector.Over the BIOS it’s possible to set the sound output to the integrated HDMI port. Additionally there is also an optical digital SPDIF output and premium Blu-Ray audio support. So most users don’t need to buy an additional sound card with digital outputs. With Hybrid CrossFireX technology in combination with an additional ATI video card, the benchmark result would be higher on all three IGPs. However, only few video cards are applicable (e.g. a ATI Radeon HD3450) officially to cooperate with the integrated video chip as Hybrid CF. AMD and ASRock made a good job with their onboard graphics solution and achieve higher performance on the same frequeny with lower power consumption nearly every half year. By pressing F2 or Del, you get access to the AMI BIOS with all important hardware settings. The frequency of all memory modules is calculated and shown immediately after changing the reference clock and makes it much easier to adjust the right RAM frequency. Changes to the CPU frequency is directly shown in the BIOS, so if you change for example the reference clock, you will see how high the CPU frequency would be with each divisor on this setting. Some may think that the reference clock is no longer important for overclocking of e.g. Black Edition processors with free multiplier selection, but the reference clock is still very important for good PC overclocking results. And of course not every user like to spend more money for these AMD BE CPUs. It was just necessary to press the RESET button. BTW as already mentioned before, this board has an additional Clear CMOS button at the backpanel.http://www.theaterbuehne-schwandorf.de/userfiles/delica-chamonix-manual.xmlWith the Unlock CPU Core feature it was possible to unlock deactivated CPU Cores. Unfortunately it’s not possible with every Phenom II CPUs, but the BIOS options are nevertheless present and this is surely for some buyers an important purchase aspect. The UCC option was called Advanced Clock Calibration or short ACC on previous motherboards, but the current AMD chipset wouldn’t support ACC without an addtional IC. The GPU can be adjusted from 350 MHz to 2000 MHz and the Sideport memory can be clocked from 533 MHz to 1700 MHz. Just select the System Performance Increases 30 setting in the OC Tweaker Turbo30 menu: The 2600 MHz CPU is now overclocked to 3120 MHz: As special BIOS feature one can store three different BIOS settings also with a desired name. Thus one can save for example balanced BIOS settings, overclocking settings and underclocking settings in a user profile of the BIOS: It was possible to lower the AMD Phenom II 710 CPU multiplier over the BIOS to 0.5x and th processor can be underclocked in such a way with 150 MHz reference clock to approx. 75 MHz. Even if probably nobody like to underclock an AMD Phenom II 710 processor from 3x 2600 MHz to 3x 75 MHz CPU clock. With unlocked fourth core of the AMD Phenom II 710 CPU it was possible to underclock down to 100MHz. Who like to boot much faster, should try the ASRock Instant Boot function. And IES (Intelligent Energy Saver) reduces the power consumption by lowering voltages on less load. The features can be e.g. adjusted with the included OC Tuner Software and in our test it was also possible to overclock with activated CnQ feature. The current consumption of the test PC with AMD Phenom II 710 X3 CPU, onBoard HD 4290 graphics, 4GB DDR3-1333 memory and hard disk drive was without overclocking and depending upon load between approx. 44 Watt and 71 Watt. The current consumption with 30 OC option was depending upon load between approx. 65 Watts up to 113 Watts, but with a benchmark performance increasement of approx. 20-30 percent. Furthermore there is on this ASRock board a fan controller function for case fans. Of course it is not as comfortable as a conventional fan controller and it is not possible to use it with all fan types, but it should help some users to get a more silent PC. By the so-called ASRock Instant Flash option (Advanced BIOS) or during the PC start one can get into the ASRock Instant Flash utility. Hereby one can very easy upgrade a downloaded ASRock BIOS without further boot CD, boot stick, boot disk, etc. Just start the ASRock Instant Flash utility. Then select a BIOS Flash ROM from any FAT formatted device like an USB Stick, then the BIOS will be flashed without without any boot medium. And it was only sporadically possible to enter the BIOS with a USB keyboard, which was especially with the many overclocking tests very annoying. Hopefully ASRock publishes very fast an error free BIOS update for this motherboard, because the BIOS version P1.10 is very buggy and should be seen rather as beta version. Not all bugs has been fixed with this update, but it showed that ASRock keep at it and that they already improved their first incorrect BIOS. Our review announcement is now about 6 weeks ago and in the meantime ASRock send us a lot of unofficial and official BIOS versions for this ASRock 890GX Extreme3 board. Currently, there is officially the BIOS version P1.80 available for download and this BIOS is a reason to test the motherboard once again with this BIOS. No more hieroglyphics characters in the BIOS, it’s now also possible ot enter the BIOS without a problem with an USB keyboard, the voltage of the memory modules is corrected and the CPU DOC value has no more problems. Additionally, a few new functions were integrated, among other things, one can deactivate the Debug LED.This is really amazing!http://gulzarihacegandergisi.com/images/89-vtr250-manual.pdf Retro fans will surely miss the floppy disk connector, conventional IDE connectors, parallel port and a few other older standards, because these standards have been removed for new technologies.By using this website you agree, that we use cookies and save personal data such as the IP address (see privacy page). Above you can set your overclocking modes and frequency of your processor. This is also where you can try and unlock a dual core or triple core processor. I did set up and try to unlock the AMD Athlon X2 255 to no avail. I have tried to unlock “extra” cores on multiple systems and am confident that I am limited to a dual core with that chip. The CPU voltages are adjustable between.6 volts and 1.625 volts with incremental adjustments of.0125V. You can also adjust the multipliers of the CPU, the north bridge, and the hyper threading bus speed. Just below those settings you can adjust the speed, voltage and timings of the memory. Here you can manually set the clock speed of the memory and the onboard graphics. For our testing today this was disabled, as it may reduce the clock speeds and voltages. The secure Virtual Machine will allow you to run a virtual machine inside your operating system. This is a handy little feature for those of you that would like to work on a different operating system that your primary one. You can also check and see what devices you have plugged in to each SATA 3 port. The speeds of the fans plugged into the ASRock 890GX Extreme3 can also be manually set here. Here you can save the settings you manually input or load the defaults or various performance setup’s. I do not want to risk my board for now, because i cant get any new for about 4 weeks. If I enable UCC I get X4 from BIOS but XP can't complete boot, goving lock or BSOD. The weird thing is that I try any core combination but it's always the same even if set to monocore with CORE0 only. It works well with same settings and UCC disabled. ??? What should I try? From what I've read in this thread, most results look pretty positive. My GBT 890GX died on me, and I've always liked the looks of this board. I like the layout, the color scheme and the features. I've never had an ASRock, but this board caught my eye from the first time I saw it. I was going to wait for the 890FX boards, but I really don't need all the extra PCI-e lanes (no intention of running Xfire anyway). I'm a dedicated AMD guy so I like the underdog. ASRock seems to be the underdog of Mobo manufacturers (they just try harder ), I respect that. Oh yeah, for the folks who were conserned about cost and were considering the 880g version of this board, the one thing I would worry about would be the PWM sections of those boards. If I enable UCC I get X4 from BIOS but XP can't complete boot, goving lock or BSOD. I'm sure my Mushkin (BBSE's) don't need that much. Will the bios let you go down to 1.35v? Thanks. Dave. Please email us if you're running the latest version of your browser and you still see this message. The actual Open Box product may differ in packaging and included accessories, but has been tested to ensure basic functionality. Has been working fine for years now.Maybe the word Extreme in the Logo make you think that this mobo is for extreme OC:DAsrock still has yet to reply to my email and ethernet port still doesn't work. But AMD did reply and they were right the prob was with my CPU, I ended up keeping the board because I couldn't afford to go up to the Gigabyte UD5, and my friend said he'd take it since he doesn't need it for Internet anyway. Well the cpu and a 560ti made a difference, it unlocked my X3 into a X4 and although limited in it's OC'ing ability which I knew before I bought it, it's held up nicely. Not for serious Overclocking (read professional reviews), however it does have it good points too. Good board layout, vid card does NOT cover PCI E port, enough space for Crossfire or SLI although only 8x pipes with the chipset. Most LG CPU coolers won't cover ram slots, and with lots of air board stays at 30-34c when being pushed. This still isn't the best board on the market by along shot, I'm not even sure it's the best in it's price range. But it probably is the best overall 890 at this price, since nic cards are a dime a dozen. I wish NE would let us edit or post, since I can't I man enough to admit I was wrong. Newegg did right me right with my RMA'sSent it backNot possible with the CPU that I bought -AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black edition. I contacted Asrock and they told me not every chip is capable of this function and to google it. I couldn't find this ANYWHERE when I researched it. Very mad! I will Say Newegg Rocks. They will allow me to return the CPU and I can then buy a more expensive one. YEAH I love spending more money. And I love Newegg!Newegg has been kind enough to let me get a full refund instead of a replacement. You gotta love them for that.Although I had no problems with setting up the pc, manually setting memory timings were no big deal, but the performance was poor from the start. The ethernet port quit working right after updating Win7 so I reinstalled.did that a few times then had Comcast come out and check the lines just to find out the ports on the board are no good, then the freezing began and so on and so on, although there is a error code display on the board Asrock customer service still has not returned my email as to what the codes I'm seeing actually mean. So now I'm forced to go to the library in order to get on line. After some research I discovered that many many people have had similar issues with this board. I simply cannot recommend this, you'll just be repeating the mistakes of others who have posted here like me have done. Sure nothing is perfect there's going to be issues with any manufacture, but go with one who will support there products. Most performance reviews said this board could not overclock well, no big deal I'm wasn't buying it for that reason, they also showed the performance was less than that of more expensive boards with the same chipset; that kinda made sense since they cost more they should perform a little better. But this board would not complete a single stress test before shutting down or producing errors, this was purchased with Athlon II x3 450, Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850 (Now known to have a memory controller issue.) All I can say is do a better job than I did with your research before buying this, although it looks nice looks will not run your PC. Asrock customer support is non existent and if you really research there company they're not known for quality products. A little performance diff.Easy over clock on my AMD 6 core 3.2 Ghz to 3.6 STABLE on all six cores. I want to try 4 ghz but I'm waiting on getting water cooling.I'm not sure if everyone is good enough on trouble shooting new builds. I have found ASRock to be a very good value board, with the overclocking features that high end boards have. Again its your choice. Check the review on YouTube nothing but good marks.Superior high FPM game graphics. Im gonna add another hard drive and install Windows 7 with DX 11 AMD Graphics cards. Saving the money for a pair of 6850's for the next release of Cyrisis. On Board Sound.? Oh yes no need for add on sound card.Click here for more details. It also has the third slot with 4 lanes. It's interesting that even the latter can accomodate a dual-slot graphics card without blocking access to any peripheral ports. If you only have one graphics card, you should install it into the first graphics slot, because it's the only one with 16 PCI Express lanes. In all other aspects, the motherboard is simple. It offers chipset functionality plus USB 3.0 and FireWire. This is typical for most motherboards based on this chipset that we have reviewed. Note that ASRock decided to go without an IDE port. This will be a disadvantage, if you still have legacy drives. As for the eSATA 3Gbps port on the backpanel, ASRock tells us that it uses one of the chipset ports (ASRock 890GX Extreme3 has all six SATA 6Gbps ports, but lacks an additional SATA 3Gbps controller). But then why does that port only provides 3Gbps bandwidth instead of 6Gbps. ASRock says it's located too far from the Southbridge, so the connecting lane is too long hence throughput limitations. Anyway, the company provides a separate eSATA 6Gbps bracket you can use with one of the remaining onboard SATA ports. It was Gigabyte who introduced this trend, and others took it up. Unfortunately, it hardly helps cooling. A cover like that is especially unreasonable on a low-profile Southbridge heatsink. Of course, these fancy covers can only be used, because chipset doesn't get too warm and can withstand high temperatures if necessary. But if ASRock wants to remain an overclocker product vendor, they better do without such covers. ASRock 890GX Extreme3 supports processors with up to 140W TDP. Proprietary tools include OCTuner (that has fewer features than AMD OverDrive) and IES for managing power-saving modes. One novelty is OC DNA that can store a BIOS profile in Windows, so you can copy it to another PC with the same motherboard. Perhaps, this will mostly come in handy at forums where owners of these motherboards can share their experience. Third-party software includes Norton Internet Security. Additional controllers are listed below. This is actually the same Winbond W83677HG, just with a different label. It supports automatic CPU fan control. Unfortunately, SpeedFan, Everest and other third-party monitoring and fan control utilities have certain issues with new ASRock motherboards. Those are related to the use of non-standard fan multipliers and are usually solved in newer versions of third-party utilities. Anyway, everything works fine in BIOS itself. There's no upper limit to fan speed to avoid overheating problems. Only 4-pin fans can be controlled. You can also limit the speed of any of the three system fans by means of similar levels (from 1 to 9). VIA audio codec is almost the same as Realtek ALC892. While ALC892 can formally sound better, the difference is hardly audible. No registration needed! Sandy Bridge Trying out the new method. Then you must use this Carbonite offer code. Such amplifiers can bedifficult to characterize because their outputs cannotbe grounded. To test these devices, the usual approachhas to been to use a balanced, calibrated isolationtransformer connected to an analyzer with an unbal-anced input. Balanced inputs on the HP 8903B and HP8903E make transformers unnecessary. Simply float theanalyzer input and connect the bridged device directlyand you are ready to make measurements. Balanced analyzer inputs make testing bridged amplifierseasy and fast 5 Audio Applications Choose the Filters for Your Applications Internal plug-in filters simplify your audio measure-ments by providing weighting networks required by in-ternational standards. In addition to thesefilters, both analyzers come with selectable 30 kHz and80 kHz low-pass filters to reject unwanted out-of-bandsignals and noise. X-Y Recorder setup diagram. High-Performance Distortion Capability Distortion measurements are fast and accurate. With asingle keystroke, the analyzers count the input signal, autorange for maximum performance, and display theresult. Typical time to return the first distortion mea-surement is 1.5 seconds with a measurement rate oftwo readings per second thereafter. Residual distortionand noise for the analyzer sections is specified to beless than 80 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz in an 80 kHzmeasurement bandwidth. Simplicity in Stimulus-Response Testing With its internal audio source and microprocessor, theHP 8903B performs swept frequency response, sweptdistortion, and signal-to-noise measurements automati-cally. Making swept measurements with the HP 8903B is veryeasy. For example, to check the frequency response ofan active filter, only a few steps are required. After con-necting the device and setting the required source level, you need only to enter the sweep start and stop fre-quencies, and then press the sweep key.
