Alan Z 2.0 out of 5 stars We bought this book for our son in 2012, when he purchased a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. (Not the Grand Cherokee, the plain old Cherokee.) The problem with this book is that it's focused on the earlier versions of that long-lived vehicle. There was a significant redesign of the body and mechanical components in 1997, and of the engine in 1999, and this book pretty much ignores them. So if you have a 1984-1996 Cherokee, this book is a wealth of information. If you have a 1997-2001, you won't find much, unless of course it's for the parts that weren't changed in the 1997 update.Made it through the first 10 pages before the spelling errors, incorrect procedures, and incorrect information about even what parts are on the vehicle made me close the book. I will be returning and buying a book from a different publisher. After all, if they cant get this basic information correct and spell words correctly, how am I suppose to trust important specifications the book gives meSo far, have yet to find the answer.I'm rating it 3 stars, for someone like me, this manual seems to skip a lot of steps and starts in the middle of some projects (crank sensor). Wiring diagrams titles didn't quite match my 2000 XJ, the wiring matched the pre-97 blower resistor. So a hard to find wiring diagram was there but.not as easy to find as it could have been. Still a good reference to have and it has paid for itself by showing me where to start a project instead of having to punt to a pro shot. I have heard the same thing of the Chilton Jeep manual and have been advised that I need to get one of those in addition, not instead of, this one. It definitely covers things that bleep-n-jeep hasn't (yet).I wanted to save some money with some DIY repairs. The main repair is that the blower fan does not work. When I was talking with my mechanic about another car, he said I need to check the relay switch. This book has one paragraph referencing relay switches. Nothing about the specific switch I need to change. I looked up several other issues I wanted to explore and there is nothing. Great deal for the price!!!Seriously, it's a great book for doing repairs, but it's only a portion of what you need when you're working on a Jeep. I recommend Haynes, Chilton's and if you can find it, get an FSM (Factory Service Manual, not Flying Spaghetti Monster - seriously, why were you even thinking that?) for your make and model - you'll thank me later. Haynes has stuff that Chilton's doesn't have and vice versa. And the FSM will have things neither of the other two even considered adding.This one helped me with quite a few tasked when I owned my Jeep. I no longer have the Jeep or the book but I'm trying to clear out my items to review list and the only way to do that is to review items. Jeff N 3.0 out of 5 stars I know they are trying to cover many subjects and multiple configurations in a limited amount of space, but even some simple procedures require flipping between different sections of the book. For instance, changing the cabin air filter references a different chapter for removing the glove box and then returning for the steps to change the air filter. Without prior research and videos, I would not have known from checking the book that I have to take off the upper half of the intake manifold to get to the spark plugs. The book does say that intake components may need to be removed depending on which engine the vehicle has, but it doesn't specify which parts for which engine. That being said, once you know which parts to take off, there are steps and pictures for those parts. It also has useful tables of information for fluid requirements and capacities, torque values, and some troubleshooting. It is a handy reference to have, but unlike other similar books or the Haynes books of the past, the book itself will not clearly walk you through a maintenance procedure.Which is kind of important to me because I intend on changing out the old radio. I think I can find them somewhere online though. Also, I have not gone through any major projects with it yet to know if it has sufficient information. But it seems like my last.Description of doing some repairs could be a little bit more detailed. Still somewhat gives an idea of where certain parts are located but not much.This manual has excellent overviews of most repairs one would need to do above and beyond basic maintenance. Anyone performing their own maintenance and repairs on their vehicle should keep one of these in the tool box.The first issue I looked up was installation of rear wiper blades. It was not addressed. Some chargers feature A completely discharged battery may not have enough voltage to activate this circuitry. This may happen even though the leads are connected properly. For the time required for the battery to accept measurable charger current at various voltages, refer to the battery charging time chart in this group. If charge current is still not mea- surable after charging times, the battery should be replaced. If charge current is measurable during charging time, the battery may be good, and charging should be completed in the normal manner.
