I've checked the Chaintech site, but the link seems to be dead to the pdf file there. I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the manual in pdf or image file format that they could send me, or a link to where I could get a copy?? I really need help determining the front panel pwr switch, hdd led, pwr led, etc connections, as well as the jumpers and USB front panel connections. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could help.I would have to email it to you. SPI would have to email it to you. SP Click to expand. Let me know if you have any questions about this Chaintech motherboard; now that I have the manual on my system, I can probably help you to find any specific information you need about this Chaintech motherboard.Help me, please, I dont know how to connect front panel with connector on motheboard Chaintech 9BID1. I can't found motherboard User Manual. Thanks! If not here's a diagram I found this obscure ftp site that does actually have all the manuals on it though:Answer questions, earn points and help others. But unfortunately, I did try their site and all of their links to manuals seem to be broken, and it looks like they've been that way for months. Can you see any markings on the front panel. If you can read those, post them here, along with the wires' names and I'll walk you through how to set them up.And I'll also play around with it and see if I can at least figure out the power and reset switches.I believe he actually went through the trouble of scanning it for us all, and he is very awesome. I am going to continue hosting the manual as a public service, since Chaintech seems to not ever feel like fixing their site. I'm going to move it to my business site, though. The old link will be taken offline very shortly. The new link is: enjoy!!I have tried different links with no joy. I dont know if it is a copywrite, or just ?? If any one can help ME out locating the manual I would greatly appreciate information. Please email us if you're running the latest version of your browser and you still see this message. The actual Open Box product may differ in packaging and included accessories, but has been tested to ensure basic functionality. Got 2nd one, it boots but would not post.I've bought 35 of these for my company, and they work great. So let me tell you about my experience.http://azlawncare.com/userfiles/dcs300-manual.xml At the time I wasn't as aware of hardware as I am now, and it semmed like a good deal. First of all, when you set the mb up, it has the USB ports disabled (for whatever stupid reason) by default, it only has 2 USB ports, like this model, the audio never worked properly (it would always hicchup when playing music, (even after driver upgrades from Chaintech's site). I've also dealt with, for months, an issue where the computer would totally shut down for no reason. It got so bad that I couldn't even load up windows before it shut down. Eventually I thought I had got it fixed but the problem came back only this time it wouldn't even stay on for 2 seconds when my storage HD was plugged in so I had to leave it unplugged. Then it started getting worseInstalled the ABIT, solved all my problems. Long story short, skip this mb, spend an extra 11 bucks on an ABIT KW7 ATX AMD Motherboard. You get a far better quality mb, 4 built-in USB ports, extra 2 USB ports that come with it and fit in an expansion bay, CPU and PSU customization settings, a temp monitoring system, a far more comprehensive manual, a backplate(!), and peace of mind. Avoid Chaintech and go with ABIT.First Board had a dead AGP slot. The replacement board has never been right. Its unstable, overheats and shutsdown on some games, Sandra found temperature sensors that read in the meltdown range.Voltage is also wacked out (reads 2x the norm), Tried it all, new drivers, CMOS reset, BIO s checked out, different RAM, different VGP, power supply tested out ok, reinstalled pcu very carefully with no change. Reformatted the hard drive just for kicks. Ultimately, I installed an ingenious additional cooling system and am writing this one off once it finally dies. I'm tired of dealing with it. Tired of dealing with Chaintech or lack of. They won't return emails and I still havn't got one of my rebates. Hope this persuades you to stay away. Also no motherboard monitoring for temperatures, which is always nice to have even if you don't overclock.Only thing I can say, will hold you over until you want or can afford to build an Athlon 64 system. Chaintech doesn't really support this board well, and that should tell you something in itself. Could they have at least put in a backplate for the motherboard. Or would they rather you bend your motherboard and make it not work as you try and plug things into the back without one. Having to redo XP should be an option, not mandatory. The minuses here far outweigh the pluses. For starters i cant load windows from my Ide HD which is what i was previously using i get a blue screen error before it even boots and i had xp on one and 2k on the other and neither boots. So im forced to install on the SATA HD. 2nd i trying to playing NFSU2 and it shuts down every time(the game). 3rd it radomnly reboots when ever it feels like it this is the DUMBEST board ive ever seen.Click here for more details. Howard Cabral 4.0 out of 5 stars Compared to the ABIT NF7-S2 (the motherboard this chaintech replaced) which has tonnes of extra of both hardware (includes onboard 5.1 surround sound chip) and software and starts at a much lower price, it was a little disappionting. I bought this motherboard to replace the NF7 that as plagued with intermittent problems from I took it out of the box (faulty manufacturing) but lasted 2 years anyway, until it final crashed for good in December. Was quite afraid to purchase another ABIT so I went with the Chaintech. However, friends of mine have told me that my Abit problems are a one off as theirs is still performing excellently. Please try again later. Please try again later. It is now running stable but only at 1300 MHz. Please explain the correct jumper settings and the BIOS settings as if I were a 3rd grader.Thi will take you to 1.99 GHz, which is still a bit low for this chip' rating. If that is stable, you can try to overclock the chip b kicking it up to Turbo or Expert and playing with those settings I left mine at Aggressive, because I am Chicken. In my experience, on most boards you can specify the frequency; guess Chaintech dumbed down the process with this one There are no temperature sensor displays in BIOS either; too bad That seems right but why cannot I get this same coordination at a faster FSB speed. There are no temperature sensor displays in BIOS either; too bad.My board came set to the higher bus frequency, so I did not have to change it. What pins do you have shorted. Refer to you manual, page 15 and verify that you have the jumper on pins 1 and 2. To get a higher CPU speed, you will need to change it. If you have already set it right, look for some foreign object that is shorting the pins. Also, your manual, page 8 shows that you should use a multiplier of 10.5 for a 200 MHZ FSB, 13 for 166. Did you try both variations? Thanks for all the help but will have to try again as soon as Rita goes through and we have stabilized electricity. Being in Southwest Louisiana is not always fun. I thought I was getting pc3200 400MHz RAM from the ad and the BIOS detects as such from the SPD. I found the label actually says 266MHz and manually setting to such creates stability. Post by Guy I left mine at Aggressive, because I am Chicken. Post by Guy There are no temperature sensor displays in BIOS either; too bad. Hello, like so many participants on this and other forums, I have a lot of issues with Chaintech, especially the 7NJL6 mobo heavily promoted in recent months by online shops such as TigerDirect. It was nothing but trouble, with frequent lock ups and blue screens. I spent probably 50 hours total troubleshooting, swapping components, etc., and finally returned the mobo to Chaintech for a replacement. The replacement has been running stably, but with a puzzling and annoying twist - POST reports MEMORY FREQUENCY of 100 MHz, with or without DDR Enabled, and no matter what I do with BIOS settings or how or where I install the memory in the three banks. I've found that the one BIOS setting on this board that have direct, immediate effect on CPU speed is the Gate A20 Option - it must be left at the default setting of FAST, not Normal, otherwise the CPU speed drops to 1300 MHz. I've tweaked and tried virtually every likely BIOS setting to try to alter this immovable MEMORY FREQENCY of 100 MHz, with no success. I've tried the Aggressive setting for the CPU INTERFACE options; SPD vs. AUTO in the MEMORY FREQUENCY settings, and populated the memory banks with 2 or 3 sticks at alternate positions. All of which produce no difference in the 100 MHz memory frequency in POST, and negligible differences in performance scores. Is it possible that this Chaintech board has a double- or quad- pumped FSB bus. If so, my system at least is running at 200 MHz minimum. The Chaintech 7NJL6 User Guide is poorly written, with omissions, and doesn't mention this item. The Chaintech web site and Tech Service is not of much help either, although the latter has returned my emails rather promptly. You, and several others on this board are obviously skilled and knowledgeable with computers. I am hoping you can point to something I may have missed. I confess to considerable ignorance on the subject of changing computer speeds and timing - I've never tried overclocking for that reason, especially since I am not a gamer. Any advice or comment is extremely welcome and appreciated. Sorry for a rather long post, but I wanted to be clear about what I want to say.:) This will take you to 1.99 GHz, which is still a bit low for this chip's rating. Sorry for a rather long post, but I wanted to be clear about what I want to say.:) I put it in a Coolermaster Centurion case today. I am installing drivers and updates now; however, I encountered the same problem this morning with the 200 MHz bus. My system is currently reporting 1300 MHz, and I have cleared the CMOS four times. I am running a 100MHz bus setting right now. I am not touching the default settings again until I figure out what is going on. I am also soliciting comments and advice (especially from Uddarts). I will also keep you posted via this newsegroup on anything I find. I spent several days troubleshooting this system in an old case -- this planned upgrade turned into a new build when I decided to buy this Coolermaster case. It turns out the system would not boot because of a bad PS2 mouse. I was really surprised by that, but at least the system is running now. Ud, I decided to go with another 7N. It's just going to be an email server and home office PC for my wife anyway. The success story is this new Coolermaster case from CompUSA. Thanks, I do not yet know what is causing this bizarr behavior. I the powered up, and got an error request telling me the CMOS had changed (Note: This had not happened before; previously I had set my syste to Aggressive, but this time I left it at Optimal. 3. I entered BIOS and reset the CPU freq to 166. This time i successfully rebooted, and told me the CPU had been changed (!) an asked me to go into CMOS to correct the boot drive order. I ignore this with an F1 key and the system booted right into Windows with dramatic speed increase. The system and Belarc Advisor both verif the speed increase, but Belarc reports 2.15 while the system report 2.16. The correct value should be 2.167, and I assume it is th actual value being reported, with rounding errors in the utilities. I will check in Wednesday The listed mem timings sound a littl slow for 333. What speed is the boot showing for memory Are you using auto, SPD, or setting specific I've heard many times that AMD's are best run 1:1 with RAM. I have n personal experience and perhaps some benchmarking will tell. Is not your XP capable of 400 FSB. Some were Auto for RAM should match whatever the CPU is running at Meanwhile, here is some interesting info on RAM It certainly raises new questions for me. It hints that registere might be better, so I wonder is this mobo capable Also manual says 2.5V, so what about RAM that is listed as 2.6 or 2. to 2.8V? AFAIK, there is no adjustment for voltage on the MOBO. Wit those that claimed a complete swap except MOBO, maybe this was a issue, in that they weren't using approved RAM and the current dra was such that voltage drops caused problems. With unapproved RAM this MOBO, and a marginal PS it would still be hard to say the MOB is at fault. All MOBO's have some voltage drop which depends upon th current draw. Too many factors involved to solidly nail without som expensive test equipment I was initially concerned with possible mismatch between the 333MHz Barton and the PC 3200 memory but the system is working fine. I guess someone will have to experiment with registered RAM; all of m sticks are unbuffered Thanks If you like t tinker, it might be interesting what performance tests say an compare to running ram at 333. It is likely you could run at 2.5 CA at that speed. Seems strange that auto kicks you to 400 for RAM.I know that is what happens here and SPD pushes it to 400 even though it is only 266. Weird, huh This new info on RAM is stirring questions, and even though some clai they are running 3 sticks in dual channel, I have to wonder how clos they have checked. I have no way with one stick to know if dua channel becomes a bios setting or it is auto the moment slot 1 3 are filled. Bios might not be trained to roll out of dual channe with third stick or at least to say so. And looking at the memor management in device manager, it appears the real use takes plac because of those associated drivers, but what will windows do under the third stick. Many utilities will likely report just what the bio says and it might take special effort to find if windows is actuall operating in dual channel with three sticks Children are a sure fire reason to bullet proof a system. I hear Murphy is a first cousin of children If you like t tinker, it might be interesting what performance tests say an compare to running ram at 333. Weird, huh. Many utilities will likely report just what the bios says and i might take special effort to find if windows is actually operating i dual channel with three sticks Children are a sure fire reason to bullet proof a system. It crashed out my system after three reboots. I set it bac to 3 and the system booted -I will try again to set the CAS to 2.5. I am afraid that if I mes around too much I will have to crawl back in and reset CMOS again.I there some setting available in that v1 bios not present in v2 Do you have the part number of that cpu The obvious thing would be to swap memory in machines so you can ru the PC3200 with the 400FSB I decided to give it a try a 400FSB by manually setting. Lowered the percentage on memory bus t maintain same speed. I had to reset CMOS after no boot Appears there is something unusual about your Barton 333 2900. I wan one;- I'd maintain that setting for now, but I mean as t speed, not particular settings in the bios. So pay attention as t how things change as you attempt to bump up the Memory bus You will likely have to set as expert to get adjustment of memor frequency. Since auto isn't cutting it, or SPD, I'd bet you got som misbadged RAM from ULTRA. You migh start with the percentage that puts you at that 100(200) you ar currently running it at. Should work without any hitch. This as confidence builder that you are approaching it correctly Then go back in and start bumping the percentage to get highe standard memory speeds. I say this because I bumped mine to one o the odd percentages yielding maybe 186 or something odd. System woul not boot. Give it some time in windows to see if it is stable. Maybe run som tests Once you hit that unstable point, I'd double check those part number on the RAM chips. Do a search and find out what they are reall supposed to be. Could be they were pushed too far or maybe the weren't up to par and intended to be run slower. Also see my link to overclockers in previous post about RAM. Goal is to get up to the spee it is supposed to be. But also could be current draw issue as pointe out in link as I noted you said you were using a 350W PS. If you ca find data on sticks or RAM chips try to calculate the total require power and check what the PS has available on the 5V line. Other part will also draw power, but I have no idea how much.Considering buying one Had a near major meltdown over the last few days. USB keyboard died USB2 hub lost bus-powered mode. System restore wouldn't work Something caused rewritting system.ini with garbage I was trying different timings of RAM to push it to FSB speed of 333 Nothing I tried gave good stability Did the memory swap per mobo help Both kids had school projects an these two systems were in use practically all weekend. I plan t swap the chips this weekend. The 2900 chip, with the Nforce2 chipset and PC 2700 memory, provides quality platform. I can play Halo and Civ IV on it with minima slowdowns, but I was not building a gaming box anyway. In retrospect, buying the 2900 as a good decision and I am ver satisfied I noticed the supply of XP chips is drying up, and the cost increase dramatically I will take thi opportunity not only to express my appreciation for your posts, bu also to give you an update on what's been happening with my system My biggest problem during the past few weeks has been NO BOOTs: Syste beeps repetitively at power-on. I've tried re-seatings, and swappe the three Ultra 400 MHz, 512MB PC3200 sticks numerous times alternating between 1, 2, or 3 sticks, at banks 1, 2, and or 3. WHE the system does boot, my long standing problem of seeing only 100 MH memory frequency reported persists regardless of BIOS setting changes (Althought on rare and brief ocassions, it has been reported at 16 MHz, agreeing with the BIOS setting). I can not replicate this. When this occurs, I shut the system down, remove the powe cable, and let it sit for a couple hours. Often times this wil produce a boot up. Over the weekend, I let the system stay on withou shutting down or hybernation. The last two days, I have had n problems with reboots or shutdowns. I will swap it with the Ultra and report on the result later. Now I have come to the conclusion that I was just unlucky i having received a lemon of a mobo from Chaintech (and no sign of rebate after 4-months) Besides the non-boot and wrong memory frequency issues, there ar plenty of other issues with this mobo that cause me to have n confidence in this Chaintech product. I have several other assemble and purchased desktops at home, none of which fails to operate wit an external USB hard drive but this one. Happy Holidays But as I recall it wa something involving seating of video card. I had re-pasted the cpu north chip, and GPU chip. Apparently there was a little slop as t being fully seated as I had it properly inserted. Screw holding car down, but it showed up after a few boots and luckily suspected it wa something related to disassembly as I'd never seen this before. Neve since Somewhere I had located a bios beep code chart. And I think the bee was actually a string of long and shorts, but they were so fast i seemed like one beep Is your board mounted so there are no shorts. I saw in one forum question relating to the case I have about the brass standoffs Someone responded to install them. WRONG! Case has built in standar standoffs, which should be enough for most boards. Only time fo standoffs would be if the MOBO required extra mounting points, and i all cases one should check to make sure every screw hole lines up wit mounting point. You might try working, disconnect and re-connect, every connector few times to ensure any oxidation is disturbed from point of contact I had a problem in this area and showed up as clacking HDD. I put light coat of silicone grease on every pin so no oxidation coul reform and no more related issues to power distribution. Sometimes this seems like a computer from hell, but every issue i something that could have happened with another mobo so I wish yo luck. My ultra RAM sucks as well as SPD says 400, but will only ru at 266 and found sticker on it to that effect.
