Assume you have 500 business cards that have elaborate graphics, which leads you to correctly guess there may be a high error rate. In my case, I often don't know if I will need any of the cards, so the ability to scan and throw away the paper cards is important. Unfortunately it does not have a multi-card sheet feeder so assume that 5-10 seconds per card must be devoted to the original scanning process. Another shortcoming of the CardScan Executive solution is that it does not learn as it goes. For example, if you have several business cards with crazy graphics from employees of a single company, the software does not recognize that you already identified key text on the previously manually verified cards. Moreover, where it can correctly recognize URLs and email domain names, the software can't intelligently determine the company name with this information. The difference between the domain name and the spelling of the company name is most notable with companies that have elaborate icons embedded in their company names. The limitations of the device and software are most likely driven by cost. Super disappointed as this worked great before 2019.I did have to review the entries to make sure all of the information was downloaded. I bought the device as I had a couple of hundred cards I needed to transfer the information to some kind of format for saving and accessing easily. The system works pretty well, but like I have said, you have to check the entries for the occassional lack of information. The corrections were easy enough to make and save. I not only loaded the entries into my Outlook address bokk, but a separate folder I keep in Dropbox so I can easily access with any of devices at any time. This was my first unit of its type, so I do not have another to benchmark against, but for the price it worked well enough.Perhaps it is a defect in the particular unit he received. In my case, it did a very fine job recognizing the data on a large variety of business cards. Very fast, and easy to use. I did not activate the integration with Outlook, but did set it up to make the Cardscan contact list available in Outlook, and that worked just fine. My only quibble is with the free online backup that they offer: the fine print tells you that they will email everyone on your contact list periodically to encourage them to join up. This sounds like a great way to lose all your friends, so I didn't do it.It scanned quickly as stated. There was a problem with scanning some darker colored business cards. Also, I have many business cards that have some Chinese characters on parts of the card and then the same information in English. Those cards obviously were a nightmare. It is tough to go through each card item by item to review but it is much better and quicker to do that than to hand enter. Now I am off to find something just as good that will work with my new set up.The box was shrink wrapped so I opened it, got the software out and installed it. I am familiar with the hardware and it looked OK. The first problem was trying to update the software. I was not able to link with anything. So I bought this scanner in the hope that it would make keeping up with everyone I met easier. The scanner itself is fairly small, although not quite as small as I expected. You have to install the software before plugging the scanner in. I was concerned about this as I run Windows 7 64 bit and had read that the model down doesn't support this. However I wrote to CardScan and they assured me it was OK. And it was fine. The software is what really makes the scanner. The text recognition is truly brilliant. The software recognises the company titles, names, direct lines, faxes etc. You sometimes have to correct odd details but I have been impressed by how good it is. I have it set to synchronise directly with Outlook and this works well. It also gives you free online backup of your contacts if you require it. When it syncs it stores a copy of the card in the contact. The only issue I have with the software is that if your card has details on the front and back, the back is stored as an image and not scanned using the text recognition. You have to scan the card again to add the back. The scanner does not scan both sides by default. Overall I am very impressed. The scanner is fast, the software works excellently and within minutes I have my cards all stored as contacts. Please try again The software is astoundingly accurate at interpreting company names, phone numbers and email addresses. Occassionally struggles with a logo-name but takes seconds to correct. Then syncronises with Outlook. The softaware can absorb all your existing Outlook contacts, cleverly sorts and removes duplicates (checks with you), so you can sort out your existing contacts database too.
